I prefer the model 2 because with the A/V out cable can have stereo without the need of a y-cable coming out of the front. It also is more compatible with the sega cd version 2 which has a CDx2 drive.

Ah.. nostalgia. The model 1 was actually the first console I owned. I received it for my 10th birthday in 1991 and I played that thing to death, and loved it to death. My siblings hated me for asking for a Genesis instead of an SNES. Like you, I also miss the days when SEGA was a hardware manufacturer as well.

Does the TV support 320p video? I have heard rumors of some very new TVs not supporting lo-res video modes. Have you tried hooking it up to an old CRT TV?

If it works on the CRT, you might need an external upscaler to use it on the LED screen, and those aren't cheap.

Otherwise, it might mean there's something internally wrong with the Genesis.

I own all of those consoles and you should stop watching review videos and listen to me. You should buy a SNES or N64 (I said 2 consoles because it's an extremly hard decision wich one is better). But if I have to say get the N64 first. Sorry SNES but minecraftguru might get you second! ;) Also if you need any help on choosing games for the SNES then ask me. I'm always glad to help people that need help. :)

@reesercliff Same with mine as well. Sega got rid of the "High Definition Graphics" wording when it introduced the Genesis/Sonic Bundle. If it was bought before Sonic, then it has the wording.

This sort of implies the Model 2 doesn't have stereo at all, but my understanding was that the Model 1 has stereo out of the headphone jack but doesn't have stereo out of the AV port, while the Model 2 obviously lacks the headphone jack, but does provide stereo sound out of the AV port. There are other debates about the sound quality between the two (though the few samples I've heard sound more like an amplitude/volume/level difference than anything else).

@myaool Yeah it kind of sucks. There are workarounds, getting a SCART cable imported and then converting the signal into component, VGA, or HDMI, since the Genesis will output NTSC over SCART.

The only problem is that the setups needed cost an upwards of $75 or 45 pounds.

You can generally use a very close one in terms of volt/amp output and have no issues. Just get one as close to the proper one as possible.

I'm gonna try that soon. haha Anybody else notice how on the Genesis Model 1 controllers and games are harder to instert and take out compared to the model 2 and 3? They obviously fixed that issue later but its not like the SNES where everything plugs in and out really easy. The Genesis model 1 is is like force marker. You gotto pull the game hard to get it out. lol Same with the controllers just to get em in.
