  • Just brought this out from my collection again. MF surely still kicks some....

  • I'm now 47 and my wife and I are going to bang our heads with them at Coaches Corner In "FUNCK ROCK GEORGIA" on November 3rd. Just eight days away...can't wait! : D

  • Must have seen Mothers Finest 6 or more times @ Savannah GA Civic Center from 79-81 while in high school. They always "OWNED" whoever they opened for and the audience, much to the dismay of the headliner taking the stage in Mothers Finest's wake! I still remember them opening for an Atlanta Rythm Section concert and front man Ronnie Hammond comming out and saying he didn't know if ASR should even bother to preform after that. Most DANGEROUS opener ever...Who can follow them?!?!

  • Rock on!

  • Probably the only band back in the day to Open for Parlament/Funkadelic and Aerosmith.......at the same time.

  • What everyone else said! I just lost about 20 lbs listening to this.

  • Going to see then again tonight @ 2001 in Myrtle Beach... Last time they were on funk'n the rock house..!!!

  • the wizard on the bass yall, that man can thump!

  • Love MF used to go to Tokyo to see them perform when I was in the Air Force between 73 &75.I'm glad to know that they are still performing.

Forgot the female lead singer's name back then.Help!

  • Here I am 58 years listening to this song....I am still in it...like I was when I first heard in 1978....25 years old.....TRUTH GONNA SET YOU FREE! listen to the musicians...and Baby Jean....

  • I have been a BIG FAN for many many years. Love that rock/funk!! They make Georgia proud!! Many years ago, saw BB at a drum clinic in Smyrna, GA <3 - THEY ROCK!!

  • These people really light up a room. I filmed them 6/11/11 at the Fox in Atlanta doing Truth and another song. I think it's new. It's on my page now.

  • this is fantastic !

  • THE most underrated band of all time! makes me feel bad for anybody who didn't grow up in Atlanta in the "70's.

  • My theme song!

  • This was the time when everybody could sing!!!!!!!!All the bands were actually musicians.............I miss this kind of music!!!

  • amazing group...

  • one of the greatest bands ever, i still at 57 years old and in 2011 love to hear this music, it is time less and rocks me to my soul,

  • Saw them in a small venue in South Georgia back in 1980 or 81....they blew me away. I had never heard such a fusion of funk, rock, and soul. I have been a fan ever since. Baby Jane is possibly the best woman singer that I have ever seen live.

  • They were really big in North Carolina and in the south back in the day. I still have this 45. It is the B side. Love Changes is on the A side. Joyce Kennedy was an underrrated vocalist. She can blow indeed.

  • Crackers In Rockingham,1980!!

  • saw them back in the day...wonderful.

  • Mothers Finest - I´d say the "Worlds Finest" band

  • I found the album on cd. Only Mother's Finest they had at the mall. Nice gift for myself and I will rock this one for my for my funky friends!! This album is a treasure.

  • Here Here!! I would have stayed for The Commodores though. I'm a bass player.

  • Saw them in the early 80s in a small south Ga. venue and then in Athens, Ga while in college at UGA. They blew me away and still do.

  • An all time favourite since 30 years ago. Mofilovr explains why. I can't do that any better :-)

  • Still love this band after all these years! I never get tired of them!

  • mf superstar

  • One of the BEST things to come out of Atlanta! Hubby turned me onto Mother's Finest - he's an Atlanta native. I LOVE THEM!

  • The first live concert i ever went to , i was 12. they kicked my ass!!!!!!!!! That is what music is about!!! Lady gaga SSSSUUUUXXXXX!!!!

I am so fortunate to have shared a stage and a late night breakfast at whatever local Wafflehouse with them on several occasions!!! I want to thank Mother´s Finest & I will love them 4Ever!

    Great Upload!!!

    --Cheers from Cancun Mexico

  • THE GREATEST BAND...............EVER!!!!!!

  • the shit.. this kills.

  • This band has been rocking their asses off since the late '70s and early '80s..seen them live 4 times..

  • The hardest working band i've ever seen, Must see, And great to mix with the fan's after the show' Love you MF. guido

  • this heffa no disrespect can sing her ass off

    ... ... respect

  • Grew up in Georgia...so proud of my ATL family.

  • This on the "Another Mother Futher" album (approx spelling) along with "Burnin' Love" -- the Elvis song... too hot! Underappreciated band! Also like the orig Rufus band... got funk!

  • The best fucking shit you will ever hear live on stage!

Going to see them at 6th of june 2010 in the Netherlands(still rocking!!!).

    Love you Joyce and band

  • saw them in the 70s they opened for black sabbath, they were booed off the stage

  • The BEST live band you will EVER see!!!!

  • outstanding groove... tightest live band i know, most underrated drummer. I wish i could listen to Chaka Khan togehther with Joyce on Stage with THAT Band.

  • "baby Jean" is the Queen of Funk/Rock. Period. man she has got the pipes and the attitude...

  • never fails to amaze me, it always takes a tiny chick like Joyce or Nona to show us how to REALLY rock out....I would consider Ms Kennedy one of the great front-women of the last century. She and Patti Labelle, showed us that black chick singers can front a funk/rock band better than anybody...

  • great band! blew away aerosmith when mother's finest opened for them some years ago

  • love them ............any data on ,the group performing ? or is a bust

  • @jujubleuu

Yes, They are still funking it up!!!

    You MUST see them Live!

People of all colors jammin TOGETHER!!!

Take a nap before you go. They will send you home satisfied!

  • These guy's were so far ahead of their time, that the world is just now catching up to them. Thanx Adam Lambert for dropping MF as an influence. That's all it took. I've idolized this band since 1977. Least recognized. Most Influential. Stellar.

  • Seems they had/still have a great regional following. I am from Travelrs Rest. Mothers played my '74 senior prom! Blew the place away, as most had not quite caught on yet. If I remember right, we had to pay em $1000.00. They play the HandleBar in greenville tonight!

  • I love reading comments from people who've just now stumbled upon the MF force of nature.

Yes, hearing Baby Jean and MF for the first time is something akin to a religious experience. Joyce fucking brings it...she has a glorious black woman's voice pumped up with a hard rocker's mojo.

She's right up there with Aretha, Patti, and Chaka in vocal talent, but she kicks all of their asses with her take-no-prisoners attitude.

  • Tear it up, Baby Jean!

  • Hey Myalyas...you can find "Niggiz can't sang rock and roll" right here .,...just type it in!!!

  • I find it funny and odd that you can't find "Niggiz can't sing rock'n roll" I suppose it is now PI, but Fuck that! MF wrote it and everything that needs to be said is in that song! I lived that time and dammit! This band brought it all together! This was the perfect blending of it al! Why be ashamed of it??!!

  • Oh, and Tensioner: If you are a vocalist and haven't heard her on the Live Album doing "Give you all the Love", you will shit in your pants!

  • Most under-rated band ever!

Rayrayholland: What the hell did you have to airbrush? I saw these guys in-person, up close and personal, several times - they always looked great! But, more important than that - they sounded great LIVE - something that MOST band CAN'T say these days!

  • First time I heard her. -I'll just pick my jaw up off the ground now :)

  • That's JOYCE KENNEDY got-dammit!! xoxoxo

  • Funk Rock LIVE!!! Can't beat it!

  • THEY STILL ROCK!!!!!!! seen them at Ft. Dupont Park in DC 8/15/09

  • They used to play regularly at the Midnite Sun In Spartanburg, SC back in the mid to late 70's, and they always rocked the house down! So many people came to see them, sometimes we couldn't even get in the door.

  • I wonder who you are.... I'm from Sptbg and was in a band that worked The Sun and did a lot of their covers!

  • I'm just a guy from Laurens who used to party at The Sun a lot, until they busted the owner for tax evasion and tore the building down! I never cared for the Disco scene, but I saw MF at a club in Atlanta (where they came from) and when I heard they were playing at the Sun, I had to go check 'em out! I'm glad to see they're still kickin' ass after all these years!

  • OK, I have to correct you on something. The Sun was not torn down due to tax evasion. The owner of The Sun sold the lot to McDonald's. I remember joking with them the last few nights they were open as we walked in to pay the cover charge - I'd ask for a Big Mac and fries.

  • Well, that was just the rumor we heard; I stand corrected! But, it doesn't make sense because it seemed to be a thriving business. The place was packed every time I went in there!

  • love them love them love them!

  • Aretha WHO??? Baby jean belts it out like nobody's biz....Best live band I've ever heard! Saw them from 76 on!!! Many times....they Rock it!

  • THANKS BABY JEAN !!

I HAD THE HONOR OF AIRBRUSHING A LOT OF THINGS FOR YHIS BAND> IT WAS A B I G HONOR !!-----Joe Holland

  • They used to play in NC all the time.

    i saw 4 or 5 times in the 70s.

They kicked so much ass live!

    Serious band.

  • Excellent!! There is no other band to compare with Mother Finest, they are so incredible good!!!

  • I'd pay to hear her sing the phone book! I miss them to this day! If you get the chance to hear them LIVE drop everything and go! One of the few bands i could follow night after night like a Dead Head. Good times to be had here..

  • Madness...i have to get up and dance and kick my hips around...

    Sooo very Good!

  • This band kicks my friggin ass..... always has....always will......

  • the voice give me GOOSEBUMPS

  • Greatest lead singer ever, Baby jean takes no prisoners

  • ive been trying to get my church band to cover this song.

  • BJK was Rick James' favorite singer

  • so so so so good

  • If you are ignorant of the existence of this powerhouse band, I feel sorry for you. These people were so far ahead of their time, that people were unable to comprehend their relevance. Blacks and whites rocking together? They mixed Sly&theFamily Stone with Led Zeppelin with a dash of Aretha, and created absolute goose bump soul and rhythm! MF inspired me to play music.

  • Yea; can,Definetly Hear That SLY & FAMILY STONE comin Thru .Great Sound.. They HAVE....

  • @mofilovr285 I agree....Ive seen some of the best acts in the world perform. And to date, Mother's Finest was the best live performance Ive ever seen....no bullshit. And I saw everything from white heavy metal headbangers to asian drag queens in the audience. When you have the range they have, you can appeal to a fuckin pigmy in the Australian outback. They're one of the baddest bands to ever step on a stage, no doubt. And Joyce is one of if not the most underrated rock chick in the game.

  • @mofilovr285 .....If you locate the clip of "Mickey's Monkey", from this same show, listen towards the end. They take the basics of "Who Knows" (Hendrix, Band Of Gypsies), gave a slight twist, & rocked it to hell. Double love this group!!!

  • @knoxunflower1 Bow down when they are in your town! I worship at the funk rock of Mother's Finest!

  • @gdrbs427 They were the first concert I went to, on my own (early 1981). They rocked it so good, Atlanta Rhythm Section had no business trying to play afterwards. It was pitiful. I left. lol

  • @gdrbs427 they are a lot in the netherlands here, soon in a town near mine... jeah (H)

  • @mofilovr285 i just discovered MF recently, and feel like a shithead that I overlooked this band when I was growing up (45 yr old now). I am in total heaven, and yes they were wayyyy ahead of their time.

  • @mofilovr285 : I saw Mother's Finest as the warmup band to The Commodores at a concert at UNC-Wilmington circa 1977-1978. They were awesomeness on a stick. I left before the Commodores came on stage. Mother's Finest were the headliners I went for.

  • @lausley I saw them in Greenville, SC at a nightclub that I had to use a fake ID to get in. I was in line for about 2 hours not even knowing if they would let me in. It was one of the best concerts I ever saw.

  • @mofilovr285 >> you're absolutely right !

Saw the band after a long time still gets me goose bumps

    Was a brilliant live performance

  • Great memories,,,uj,uj,uj !! ;D

  • Baby Jane... No Joke!

  • What a fusion of rock & funk. Labelle just redid this song on their new reunion CD, " Back To Now ". Nona Hendryx sings lead. Labelle & Mother's Finest - the 2 leading groups in melding rock/funk/soul.

  • T-O-T-A-L C-O-N-T-R-O-L!

  • Ride on,ride on this is realy good shit :-)

  • That voice just cuts like a hot knife through butter. Never gets old.

  • THANX FOR BEING HERE

  • When Rock & Soul come together you have Mother's Finest. Got to see them at Mother Fletchers in Mytrle Beach and at Frances Marion Collage, way back in the Mid 70's. I agree they have never had the recognition they deserve, it's a shame cause Baby Jean is top of her game, even today as they still tour. Will always love Baby Jean's vocal and the band.

  • Mother's Finest!!---A grossly underrated funk/rock band from the 70's and early

80's that never got the recognition they so richly deserve! Joyce "BabyJean" Kennedy is one of the most expressive emotional voices in a league with Chaka Khan, Ann Wilson and Pat Benetar!

  • Awesome! Wow...Wow...wow...

  • Απίστευτη μπάντα! Η Joyce είναι τόοοοσο sexy! Φωνάρα! Από τις καλύτερες μπάντες που πέρασαν. Just wonderful!

  • One of my work out Jamz!! Outta sight

  • OMG - walk down memory lane - and it's SOOOO GOOOOOOD! WHOOP JOYCE ROCKS!

1979 Atlanta June Jam -- LIVE -- BTDT, yep!

Thanks for the video... this 50 yr old became a kid for a brief moment there. Wait - think I'll listen again -- lmao! YEAH!

  • Seen them in 79-80? It was 38 Special, Mothers Finest, & Aerosmith. All I remember is they were great live!

  • Wasn't Rossington Collings on that tour.

  • Maybe? I saw them at the Capital Center in largo, maryland and the line up was 38 special, M.F. & Aerosmith.

    Hope that helps.

  • love it labelle just covered this siong on there new album in stores oct 21 2008 back to now patti sarah and nona = labelle

  • if that don't light your fire....your woods wet!

  • Absolutely impeccable! They are just as awesome live.

  • oh my god ALL HAIL JOYCE KENNEDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if aliens came dowm for up there and asked me "what is soul music?" i would play them 1 the truth"ll set you free 2 poet (sly) and rock steady "aretha" that's it

  • Mother's Finest are some of the baddest Mothers in music period!!

Totally overlooked and underrated band! MF don't play, they make your butt get up and move!!

Who said black people can't play rock and roll??

  • We invented the shit what are you talking about. The record companies screwed this band to the hilt they should have supa dupa stars and Joyce Baby Jean Kennedy should have been the leading lady of rock. they didn't know how to present this band. (record companies)but yes this band was a Motha.hence Mothers Finest

  • Actually, black people invented rock and roll, as far as i know

  • Funkadelic is the shit, but Mother's Finest ain't too far behind :D

  • Please, Mother's Finest tear Funkadelic a new one without even tryin'!

  • HELL YEAH!!!

  • this is the baddest funk, rock band of alltime, know band would dare follow them, they would get blown off the stage,Truth will set you free and all those bands that got all the Pub knew that.

  • AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME, GROOVE! Thanks for sharing this!

  • Bow down when they're in your town. MF is a true pioneer in funk rock. They were so far ahead of their time that record stores had no section for them. MF routinely blew headliners off the stage, yet were unrecognized on Billboard. Another Mother Further was as close as they got, then unfortunately were steered in another direction. Sly & The Family Stone meets Led Zepplin! All hail MOTHER'S FINEST!!!

  • It is really unbelievable that this band with such great songs & musicians never being rewarded the way they should have been. They are one of the best bands I've ever heard in my life!!!

  • Seen them in thier Hay Day They opened up for Parliament-Funkadelic in DC and man, that was one heck of a concert.

  • does anyone have "give you all the love?"

  • Yes - it exists on youtube. I've seen it and it's the same show as the "truth..." show.

  • This is, what i call GROOVE!!

One of the most underrated bands of all

times. If you have ever the chance to see

them live, go for it, you will never regret!!

  • I....I was'nt gonna tell Nooo BodddYYYY!!!!!

  • Saw MF regularly here in Athens GA from 78 - 85 and was lucky enough to catch there show again 2 months ago and they're just as tight as ever.

  • Makes me wish I grew up in the '70s, lol! MF is definitely one of my ALL-TIME favorite music acts. Too bad they never got the chance to show their stuff here on the west coast or else they would've gotten over for sure. Still, gotta give props were props are due!

    >;-)

  • Gosh, I have been rockin to MF for so long, I feel like they are personal frieds of mine. Killer ass video!

  • Fucking Awesome

  • Notice how they float the beat of the song before they start on Joyce's cue. Notice how they all nod their heads to the sickeningly thick groove. Notice Joyce "Baby Jean" Kennedy's strut as she effortlessly riffs through this song. Notice at the bass riff before the solo, Wizzard appears to kick Glenn's tam in the air

  • They changed my life...Whew!

  • and than there was mothers finest!

  • Incredible! Get the funk out!

  • I saw them at Presbyterian College in late '70's. Just introduced my kids to them. No one better!

  • If that don't light your fire...your woods wet!

  • Bitchin' band. Still one of the best albums I've ever owned.

  • I love this band.

  • I remember seeing MF back inthe 70's in Charlotte. Anyone have a video of them jamminh to "Hard Rock Lover" off the Another Mother Further album?

  • Thanx MF. Love seeing you guys again, after (hmmm) to many years. "Mothers Finest Live" (1979) is truly a amazing album. Check it out.

  • ....absolutly CRAZY tune,- awesome voice- full of power...

    love it.

    respect !

  • i opened for these guys at the N Club in North Carolina summer '06

  • Motherfunkin' goose bumps all over! The Red Hot Chili Peppers are a lame 3-day old fart compared to this. This is how you funk sh!t up with style!

  • Thanx for sharing!

  • I used to play this song in a cover funk/rock band many yrs ago, great memories !!

  • Anybody got a video of "Burning Love"? Jammed to this song so many times can't even count "em!

  • wow this band are tight as hell!! Glad to hear they're still around.

  • AWESOME ! I LOVE Mother's Finest !

  • Oh Yeah! Nobody yet has outshone MF! I hope to make the April 21, 2007 show at Club 29 (Atlanta, GA). So good to see footage of the original lineup. Baby Jean's voice rules!

  • Few bands got a great sound like this. It always surprised me they never hit the charts in Europe.

Mix soul, funk, hard rock, awesome

  • WOW

  • Badass!!! It don't get no better than this!

  • I'm only 15 and i went to see them at the three rivers festival and i liked it but i only heard about 3 songs but they are still good

  • i wish they would play this kind of music on the radio.

  • Wonderful video! I love them! Babe Joyce Kennedy has a fantastic voice! Listening to them just makes me...F..Yeah...

  • I love this song. The run the band dose is incredible. This is hard core funk and rock rolled together, and Joyce is such a peach!
