@iammaxed Because it entertained at the time…? By reacting the way you are, you are making a big deal out of it. It's not a big deal, it's nothing. It's less than nothing, it's not worth the upset.
Save your rage to combat racism today, where it actually matters.
This show creeped me out as a very young child and it continues to creep me out seeing it as an adult. I like old/traditional music but this is corny & awful. It was an interesting flashback to watch though. Any wonder my parents never watched it.
what i find more amazing ... is how people can express thier racist or anti-racist views so easy online...but in "real life" its so taboo to even have a discussion about it ... makes you think right??
You think that all white British racists should be hung, drawn and quartered? And the UK Govt is (of course) 100% right in saying that black people can never be racist as they are still such a minority? If you think that,I agree with you and I'm glad that many white women are very attracted to black men, steadily helping to turn the UK into a mixed-race nation! Good-as it will end the utter evils of racism!
It's like the racist and sexist elements of this unbelieveably sketch are fighting it out to be more diabolical. Those who mock the X-factor may want to consider what was once considered acceptable entertainment.
What the fuck is going on here? Seriously struggling to understand why this is good. The music is twat, the whole idea of the scene is hard to comprehend and I'm really quite confused as to why they have blacked up for this.
white people are wierd man white guys hate the thought of black guys with white girls yet they make a show wear theyre painted like black guys singing to white women damn thaats wierd
What's weird is how blacks always prattle on about being 'Black and Proud,' then keep coming over to be with white people and wanting to knock all their women up. As for the so called 'enlightened' milltiants, white and black alike, they're the ones who have the vested interest in keeping you down. So you'll think you'll always need them to think for you.
@drdawn86 You're right, it's a bit less, some of my students are in more than one class of mine, so I wound up counting them twice. But I am definitely a teacher, Media and Photography, actually, in a country town in Victoria
@drdawn86 Frankly I'm enjoying exposing your inability to argue the point of the B&W Minstrel Show with even the remote quantity of intelligence. If you're unable to back up your claim you shouldn't comment on a public forum. Simple as that. Now I could go on about the social values shows like this represent, using codes and conventions, but I fear your steroid-filled brain would explode from the pressure
@drdawn86 If you have such a disdain for the media, why did you comment on a piece of media then in media terms? I'm not the one being contradictory. You made a comment, I pulled you up on it, and then you went through a volley of insults and swear words in a pathetic attempt to hide you obvious lack of ability to back up your claim. YOU made the comment, YOU refuse to back up your comment, and YOU resorted to the language you used because YOU have the inability to back up your claim. Idiot
@drdawn86 It's nice you have better things to do, I'll leave you to your Charles Manson, your serial killers and your body building. I'll go back to educating my 123 students. Have a nice life.
@drdawn86 I'm emotional? Who's the one slinging around the swear words and insults? Have the men in the little white coats come to collect you for the asylum yet? You clearly need help for you delusions of your own sanity. You're the one making up the wild and unfounded assumptions of me, and all I've asked you to do is back up your ludicrous comment, which I might again remind you, you made on a public forum.
@drdawn86 And as for your comment "anyone can do your mickey mouse degree", without knowing about the courses I've done or where, how would you know? For the Bachelor course, 400 people applied, 40 people got in, based on a folio of films produced and on a panel interview. That was just for the undergraduate. For the postgraduate, you needed to have done the undergraduate. Yep, with a 90% rejection rate, anyone can get it.
@drdawn86 OMG, now I've heard everything!!! You're upset because I commented an idiotic comment you made 6 months ago, and yet you want me to do as pointless and exercise as write to the BBC for a show they made 33 years ago? That's just too funny!!! And I'm not ranting and raving, I'm merely getting you to be accountable for your idiotic comment.
@drdawn86 I'm not the one who is ranting, raving, using obscene and offensive swear words, or insulting others, making ridiculous assumptions about my qualifications, carrying on like a pork chop, so I don't know how you can call me a "deranged loon". Given the unfounded insults you've thrown in my direction I think I've remained quite sane and calm under your verbal abuse.
@drdawn86 Oh, and further, Lenny Henry was born in August 1958, and first appeared on Black and White Minstrel Show in April 1975 - making him 16. Looks like you're the one who needs to research
@drdawn86 Incorrect, I didn't contact you, I merely replied to your ludicrous comment that because Lenny Henry appeared on the show (as a 16 year old) it makes the Black and White Minstrel Show okay. That is not making contact with you personally, that is replying on a public forum. Post a ludicrous comment like that on a PUBLIC forum, expect people to want you to back up your claim WHICH YOU REFUSE TO DO. You're an idiot, who resorts to offensive swear-like insults to hide your own cowardice
@drdawn86 You are continuously missing the point. You made a value judgement, and you are the one refusing to back it up. You're a coward. If you want to make a point, have the balls to back yourself up. Otherwise, keep your trap shut.
@drdawn86 Oh, I'm an idiot, am I? Should now be the time I point out I have a Masters in Arts Education, specialising in Media and Drama? If we're resorting to personal insults now, you're the idiot because you made the comment that black and white minstrel is okay because Lenny Henry was on it (basically placing a judgement on someone from a decision they made at 16) and won't back it up. Writing to the BBC will be like writing to a gov from 30 years ago - completely and utterly pointless.
@drdawn86 Perhaps the most confused and nonsensical comment I have ever seen on Youtube. You really have no idea what you're crapping on about, do you?
This show used to sell to African countries and everywhere! I watched it in Nigeria. It was very popular there. Only the Americans started going on about how racist Minstrel shows were, because of their own history of theatre discrimination - and that was used as an excuse to cancel it.
@drdawn86 ah, but you DID answer to it, you said it was okay because Lenny Henry was on it. I never said you had anything to do with it - I was also a kid, and for some reason this was on TV in Australia. As for your comment about being a "prole in the big scheme of importance", you are a member of the viewing community, with viewpoints and opinions. Don't underestimate your role in the scheme of things. As a media teacher, my role is to educate what the role of the media plays in forming them
@drdawn86 then I will have to deduce you have no reasoning and that like a lot of ignorant people, you fail to see what the point is to the objections to these shows are.
@drdawn86 Does it? Lenny Henry was 16 when he first appeared. And he was told by the television producers that as a black entertainer, it was the only job he was likely to get. He is terribly ashamed of his involvement in this show. So does it make it okay, just because he appeared on this piece of shit?
The worst TV clip I have ever seen bar none. Absolutely tasteless and offensive and I am not easily offended. This is the reason why PC came about in the first place. Good riddance.
why can't people see beyond the color of people's skins? So the guys have black faces? They are good singers and dancers. Why discriminate against minstrels? Bring back the Black and White Minstrels and stop this political correctness,
