  • wher i live its 18 for pubs and drinking but its 21 for buy in shops realy wierd

  • it should be 18 atleast. In the UK its 18 but many shops ask for ID if you look under 21 or 25 in some. You can drink from age 5 at home, though I doubt many people give 6 years olds booze. And if your 16-17 you can have alcohol with a meal at a licensed premises aslong as an adult is with you, in scotland you dont need an adult. You now have to 18 to buy cigs (raised from 16) but you can smoke at 16.

  • I support 18 to be the age. this was the age when I was growing up. I agree with you!

  • @blackjackwabam well i believe that one of two things need to happen either the age of drinking needs to be lowered to 18 or people below the age of 21 should be barred from entering the military since they aren't smart enough to asset risk. But seriously if you trust a 18year old with a gun shooting at people you cant trust him with a beer? C'mon Son what the fuck you thinking?

  • @BP2010 Look just because the legal age is 18 to be in the military, it doesn't mean that it is right. Being 18 is still a teenager.

  • @HateFams This is true 18 is still a teenager but it is still the age of adulthood. 18yr olds are treated like adults in every sense of the word hell if a sixteen year old kills someone they can get life in prison. So we as a society need to look at this law and say one is it really stopping people age 18-20 to drink (answers no by the way) and too is it a just law. Which it is not it is a discriminatory law built on stereotypes and prejudice. 18 are adults and should be treated as such

  • We need to take out the alcohol from the college setting equation. More like raise the age limit to 24yrs old to a more responsible and professional setting.

  • @blackjackwabam I completely agree just because the age of being adult doesn't they are clearly adults the age to be an adult. I'be heard studies where humans are not official done with puberty until 21. They are not emotionally and mentally developed yet. And I believe the age to be an adult should be 25.

  • Its ridiculous, the legal age to be an adult should be 21. Under 21 should be considered minors for most things. Anyone under 21 should not be allowed to drink, smoke, or have sex. And since technology is changing it should be required after high school to start college. I'm going to write a letter making a law anyone under the age of 21 minors.

  • instead of trying to ban underage drinking we must lower the drinking age and support zero tolerance DUIs and promote safe alc consumption!

  • How is the possible contraction of HIV for a sexually active and legally consensual 18 year old any less dangerous than having a couple beers in a safe environment like a bar with every other adult? How is going to the sand and deserts in Iraq, at high risk of losing your life by a bullet in a second any less dangerous than enjoying some beverage with friends at a restaurant? Does the logic add up? Isn't the definition of mature adult someone who can choose responsibly what goes into their body?

  • Its a very bad idea to lower the drinking age. Your brain isnt fully developed until your mid 20s. Adding alchohol to the undeveloped brain can cause servere damage. Not only that but they arent mature enough to hold it. Its better off if teens dont drink at all. Thel laws just have to be more strict and enforced.

  • Its not just drunk driving thats the problem. Your brain isnt fully devoloped until your mid 20s. Adding alcohol to an undevoloped brain can really damage it. Its not a good idea for anyone especially teens to be drinking any alcohol period!

  • america is the only country with such a gay age limit, let me tell you it works fine here in europe to sell beer from 16 upwards and spirits and cigs from 18+ and our life expectancy didnt decrease by 15 years :-D that is fucking ridiculous

    greets from oktoberfest country ;-)

  • fuck

  • im 18, i drink, i dont care if the age is 21, im not going to get caught because i dont do anything stupid/irresponsible to get myself caught. those who are irresponsible enough to put other peoples lives in danger by driving should be punished. i do think drinking in your home should be legal as long as you dont leave and u are atleast 18

  • polander76, i agreee, but i dont know if you realize this is legal already in many states, under parental consent/supervision. At least in the State of Oregon it is.

  • im not sure if its like that in michigan, if it is, then i dont know about it and neither does anyone else i know lol

  • How are you getting this alcohol? Do the stores sell it to you? Do you have a fake id that scans?

  • most stores dont care as long as ur 18, no i dont waste my time on fake id's lol i wouldnt go through all that trouble for alcohol... i dont see drinking as that big of a deal to go through the trouble for a fake id

  • although there who will drink responsibly, there are those who are just completely stupid and end up in car crashes. That's why they have to make the legal drinking age high.

  • True, but the same can be said for any age...

  • at 18 in america we are legal adults if we cant decide a simple decision as to when we should start to drink without the govts ok then we are truly living dark times

  • we are the only country in the world that have the drinking age at 21, even iraq has the drinking age at 18. America is behind when it comes to that.

  • in denmark you only have to be 16 to drink

  • Nobody under the age of 21 is the same, some people are smarter and some people are dumber, the same is true of those over the age of 21, and yet only those under 21 get treated like petty criminals for drinking. It's ridiculous.

  • I support the drinking age becoming lower. i hate the fact that a 18 year old who has show his/her masturedy by serving the military and fighting for this nation, but is treated badly and like a kid when it comes to having a beer. it not right. anyone who is brave enough to die for their country is considered an adult in my eyes and they need to be treated like it. the us drinking age is mess up!

  • but if you look at statistics, most underage drinkers die of liver based conditions later in life cutting life expentancy by up to 15 years. Anyway I don't approve you bringing the subject of war into this discussion to win the hearts of other hot headed republicans. Who says fighting makes you a man?

"If we adopted the philosophy of 'an eye for an eye,a tooth for a tooth',the whole world would be blind and toothless." Mohatma Ghandi peace!

  • most underage drinkers die of liver based conditions? i bet more 18 year old die overseas fighting for you and your country. why not let them have a drink? if you are mature enough to learn how to kill someone im pretty sure your mature enough to have a drink

  • did you actually say that? 'MATURE' enough to KILL someone? You actually think that killing another human being is a compass on maturity. NUMBER 1 I am irish so there is nobody protecting my country NUMBER 2 My stats were right NUMBER 3 would you actually trust somebody with a drink if they are capable of killing somebody? Dear sweet Jesus you,my friend, need a lesson in morality nd ethics rather than republican hoorah barbaric war hungry bull shot. think independently. dnt follow d herd on this

  • first of all the drincking age and drunck driving are 2 seperate issues and should be treated as such! there are 30 40 even 50 year old men who have gotten into the drivers seat of a car who would b considered over the leagal limit! Lowering the drinking age is possibly a really good decision. We did have it at 18 in the past and it wouldnt b horrible if it returned to its origional age! You get most of your rights at 18 drinking is apart of them.

  • we should lower the drinking age but raise the driving age.

  • asianpride1226- i couldn't agree more. The way it is now, kids learn how to responsibly drive at a young age 15-16. During the majority of college years (18-21st birthday) there is no lessons in responsible drinking. its no wonder how madd gets all their "statistics" for their false arguments.

  • It is also socially acceptable for 18 year olds in other countries to drink at 18 but not in the U.S. another stupid law

  • im sorry people! but im serious about the killing! dont get me wrong it was kill or be killed but only the supreme one can judge!! im sorry im FUCKED UP, they really fucked me up !!

  • Most objections come from the public belief that people under 21 would be more likely to dui. Maybe they should lower the drinking age but make dui a 5 yr offense.

  • if you can go to war and shoot somebody why cant you have a beer

  • Carter is absolutly right u can 17 and join the armed forces!! but u have to be 21 to have some alcohol!! man fuck that i just killed like 20 ppl 3 children, 2 ladies and the rest they told me they were terrorist so i guess i wouldnt feel bad shit i still do!! so in the name of democracy or at least thats wat they told me i was fighting for can i have a shot of JOSE CUERVO BLACK on the rocks!!

  • go for it

  • From a non-American I think it is absolutely ridiculous that you all have to wait until you are 21 until you can purchase/drink alcohol. Here in Europe alcohol is more socially acceptable, and whilst we still have problems related to binge drinking, it is evident that being able to drink at a younger age and alcohol being more socially acceptable is a better thing. I find it quite strange that say for example a 16 year old European can drink alcohol whilst a 20 year old man/woman in USA can't!

  • For all of you who don't know: The 21 drinking age is the result of a piece of unconstitutional legislature- The 1984 National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984. This act was included in a highway finances bill, and withholds 10% of federal highway building to states which do not enforce a 21 drinking age (it is Constitutionally a state's right to determine drinking age).

  • In South Carolina v. Dole, the majority rule upheld this law, and others like it so long as the finances withheld are relevant to the law required. Do you really think drinking age is at all relevant to federal highway funding? Of course it's not! MADD used its sentimentalist power to make politicians who supported "underage drinking" unelectable. We can't function as a government if our courts refuse to enforce the law. This is an outrage. This law was not passed by Congress, but by MADD.

  • Whether or not underage drinking in college or high school is accepted anywhere is besides the point.

The point is that 18-20yr olds are burdened with the full responsibility of adulthood without the privileges of adulthood.

I am a 20yr old Airman. I have been to Iraq and am not allowed to have a drink. I show my Military ID at bars and still can't get in. It's bullshit and it's unfair. The idea that a servicemember can't drink is ridiculous, so much so, that it'd drive one into desertion.

  • The drinking age needs to be fucking lowered to 18. I picked up smoking because it is sometimes hard for me to get alcohol. Its ok for me to destroy my lungs but I'd be thrown in jail if I had a drink every now and then? I'm so tempted to move to Montreal until I'm 21.

  • so let me clarify things here. at 18, you can join the army and buy a rifle but you can't have a cold one. why the population isn't outraged by this is beyond me.

  • I know I think it's very strange why more people aren't outraged by this. Us 18 yos should be at least allowed to purchase beer and wine.

  • who ever is from u.k sucks m.y package

    thanks for reading :)

  • fagget

  • I find it baffling that in America a 20 year old is considered mature and responsible enough to get married, get a commercial pilots licence, cast a vote, drive an 18-wheeler or buy an assault riffle, but not considered mature enough to have a cold glass of beer after work.

  • more like 12 cold beers after work. I've got mates who are my age and binge dink alot..

  • amen, agree with you.

  • None of them will even address this question because Mothers Against Driving Drunk (MADD) will have their balls (if Hillary: tits?) on a platter. Congrats America, we have the same drinking age as Oman and the United Arab Emirates.

  • In Denmark you can drink every alcohol type at the age of 16. Before summer 2004 the age was 15. But in my crap country its still 18..

  • ha ha i am from uk, we can drink at 18

    stick that up your arse

  • jajaja the thing is that americans are very stupid when is about drinking... they are not mature enough....they want to get shitfaced always.... its too late for doing that....it will become dangerous for the US

  • fjpko, you've posted this same comment in every single video remotely connected to the drinking age. Don't you have anything better to do? And any way, don't you think alcohol being seen as "the important forbidden beverage might have something to do with the poor drinking habits? In Europe, binge drinking isn't as much as a problem because teens drink with their families, it's not seen as something special or a status symbol like it is in the U.S.

  • youve obviously never been to europe. europe is at least 3 times worse than the US i started drinking at 13 and so did most of my mates

  • underaged kids find a way to get their hands on alcohol anyway if they wanted it... the age limit really doesn't matter...

  • I agree with pilotwhoisneverhome. If you are not capable of making the desicion to drink a beer at 18 then maybe the military age should be raise to 21. Well written pilotwhoisneverhome.

  • I agree with you 100%, ignore these narrow minded people that are ridiculing you. Who's at Columbia? You are.

  • fucking militant straight edge asshole! you are an idiot!

  • I'd like to reply to all of these.

Drinking: No reason to bleed to death, they're already slowly killing themselves slowly.

    Smoking: Same thing.

Interracial marraige: why gunned down? what is wrong with that? you can't tell people who they have to love.

  • Child abuse: this one makes the most sense. but life? no. maybe the child taken away from the parent permanantly.

Murder: the witness gets to murder the murderer? but if he murders the murderer, the witness of the other witness gets to kill him and so on. That makes zero sense.

Religion: If they weren't around atheism wouldn't be cool :)

  • you are a wanker you never got laid you never got to drink or smoke because your parents are cunts!

and religion is some ones own choice I am atheist but I don't shoot religious people to make the world more like I am.

Murder- why the fuck would the witness want to kill the murderer?

    What is bad about drinking?

Were are the serious drugs that can kill people or are you a hippy? a hippy that likes to kill people to make the world safer?

  • sorry this is ment to be a reply to a comment that toxicrockerz made.

  • Murder-why the fuck would the witness want to kill the murderer?

What if that witness was the victim's friend/family member, and they wanted revenge? The government could allow them to do that if they wanted.

Anyways, I have my reasons why the drinking age should be RAISED to 24. Apparently teens these days misuse substances and do bad things they would not do consciously and willingly.

  • ok..... but then they should raise driving age to 18, you cant go into the military until you are 20. I am lucky to be an Australian were laws are much better and our country is not fucked up. I dont mean that in an arugent way I mean that in a when bush and friends are in chair the country is fucked up.

  • 18 all way

  • Doesn't make a lot of sense that you can kill or be killed for your country. Yet you are not responsible to handle a beer.

  • Thats why I won't be enlisting for a while.

  • It doesn't matter. People will still drink and drive. You have a greater chance dying in America than you do off in Iraq.

  • iagree, if u can go to a war or a drft at 18 i should be able 2 get drunk WTF!!!!!!!!!!

  • Move to Canada, normal drinking age is 18 or 19 depending on the province. Provinces are also adopting a graduated licensing program whereby your interim license forbids you to have any alcohol in your bloodstream while operating a motor vehicle or pleasure craft. Quite frankly I don't care at what age people drink, but if you drink and drive, you should have to go to every mother in your city whose child has been killed by a drunk driver and tell them you drink and drive.

  • cnn today!!!!

  • Nice job being on the Daily Show!!

  • every one hates the US because they are jealous that we are the most rich and most powerful of all the countries. especially ehhh, canada! you fucking bitch.

  • Where did you come up with everyone hates the US on this video? And then how did you come up with Canada is jealous of the US because this kid is asking to have the drinking age lowered? If you have nothing intelligent to say, say nothing at all

  • i wasn't talking about the vid dumbass, i was talking about a person in the comments. mind your own business

  • actually the only person on here who said anything anti US is fromt he US

  • I agree with your idea.

  • Question, Why can we smoke at 18, but not drink till 21? LOL, we have so many changes to make.

  • Uh...One reason may be because you are not gonna get in your car and possibly kill anyone after you have a dozen smokes in rapid sucession.

  • I'm moving to europe, so plz don't fit me in with THEM. Please.

  • Underage drinking is legal in Italy

  • If it's legal to drink at 18, it's just legal age, not really underage drinking. I'm sure for them 5 is underage, and i bet it's not Legal :) LOL

  • yes yes yes, it should be lowered, but at an early age like in other parts of the world teah our youth ( at home) how to be a responisble drinker.

  • Let's see....I will take the shrimp fried rice, the kung pow chicken, and 2 egg rolls

  • I agree..however realize that (as in the netherlands) when the legal drinking age would be 18, the category you're referring to as underage drinkers, will certainly shift towards a younger segment. We've experienced it hands on here.

  • That is a very good question! Check mine out and tell me what you think!

  • I agree with this out look (kinda), because it's never made sense. I would probably suggest they consider raising the age for military service before lowering the drinking age.
