OMG The face-based responses to this post are indeed frightening. She was not the Princess Di of Argentina nor was she just channeling her beauty and charisma to achieve more in her short lifetime as most people do in 100 years. Miss Thing was a self-serving dynamo that indeed took a nation by storm and then left it bereft of the ability to sustain itself after her untimely passing. The government collapsed, the economy collapsed and all the while she looked good screwing them.
I love how the real Magaldi was a handsome young man, but most movies about Evita portray him as a disgusting dirty old man in order to offset the middle aged actresses they always cast as the 15-33 year old Eva.
@macrent2 So, are you saying Eva put on an act for her people? She genuinely loved them and helped them until she died. As for the acting career...yeah, she wasn't good.
Thank-You for this video. I liked learning more about this show! I recently fell in love with this song when I had to sing "Don't Cry for me Argentina" for a Jr, Idol event. This was the song the judges picked for me to learn. I have totally fallen in love with the song and I want to learn about the show!

Let's say Eva DID sleep her way to the top? Why is that a crime? This was a dark time for women in Argentina and women didn't have much options to advance in life. I, for one, salute Eva that she was able to channel her beauty and charisma into getting out of poverty and becoming the First Lady of Argentina. She may have seduced a country, but she was a smart and intelligent woman who achieved in her short lifetime more than most people do in a 100 years.
@emlodik Tomas Eloy Martinez said that during her highly sexist time (before women could even vote) sleeping with men was often a simple matter of survival; he also says that most people who knew said she was utterly "sexless" in person. Fraser and Navarro write that if she truly was as cold and promiscuous as people say, then she would've abandoned Juan Peron when he was imprisoned. Instead, she stood by his side.
@emlodik Hear, hear! That''s what I've been trying to ell those around me. It's not like today. She had many obstacles in her way. I admire people who go against the grain and succeed.
Great biography on Evita. She was a wonderful woman and I want to pay the greatest homage to her by writing my historical fiction novel. No words can describe my love for her.
BTW, she NEVER met Magaldi in 1934. The information is a little mixed up, but it was a great biography either way.
@something9313 and how do you know she never seduced any men or that Peron was the only man she slept with? Even reputed biographer Toma Eloy Martinez stated that Eva was no stranger to the "casting couch" as were hundreds of other young starlets of that time. As for Magaldi, there are varying accounts of how they met and how she left with him. Even Alicia Dujovne Ortiz's 1996 biography insists that they met and he may have had a hand in getting her kick-started.
@musicaltheatergeek79 All startlets were and are no stranger s to the casting couch including the glorified Hollywood starlets. The Magaldi situation is something of an enigma. There are no records of Magaldi touring Junin but there are witnesses of Magaldi introducing a young Eva to some industry people. File this under the catergory "we will never know for sure". What I object is portraying a 15 year old as some sort of sex fiend & seducing a fully grown man. Since when is HE the victim.
@HouseOnSunset In what way is she like Sarah Palin? In the way that Sarah Palin is from Alaska and champions the wealthy and Evita was from Argentina and championed the poor? In the way that Sarah Palin was governor of the state and left while in office, and Evita never held a political office (despite the fact that she wanted to but wasn't allowed to because women couldn't hold office in her time)? In the way that Sarah Palin's husband doesn't hold office and Evita's husband did? No similarity.
@evitastories Well, Sarita DID sing "...Oh, I shall be a great vice president" before passing out on the floor! And I'm pretty sure at some point Miss Palin belted "SCREW THE SEXUAL MINORITIES, I WILL NEVER ACCEPT THEM AND THE WILL NEVER DENY ME ANYTHING AGAIN!!!!!!!! My best friend in high school was a lesbian and I was kept out of sight. Hidden from view at her slumber party!"
@HouseOnSunset Oh, yeah. I forgot about the time she broke out into song. (Hey. Did you see the parody of the movie "Evita" that SNL did? It came out right after the Madonna movie was released. It basically made fun of the idea that politicians would sing at campaigns. Could you imagine if that really happened in real life? lol)
@evitastories "The hockey mom hasn't learned the lines you'd like to hear. She won't go scrambling over the backs of the queers to be accepted... By making donations just large enough, to some AIDS charities. She won't be president of your wonderful society of Log Cabin Republicans even if you asked her to be, as you SHOULD have asked her to be."
I hate how false reports and false stories get around about Eva she was a great lady she was only huma but in general I feel she loved the people of her nation and if she had lived probably would have become President and a household name without Madonna having to remind folks about her life she would have been more famous then any other First Lady or leader in the world!
as of what they teach us in school she was a goodess to her people...she did help alot but also live a glamorous life at the same time she said she was like the poor
So what she ran away at age 15! If I was 15, I might have done the same thing!
