@DRGgang2 Officially yes but volunteers went to help Finland to fight of the Russians at the Finnish Winter war. Not really sure about if we had volunteers in the rest of Europe also, but Sweden as a country was "Neutral" but it´s people was not.

I thought Sweden was neutral but I know most swedes were symbiotic to the allies rather to the Nazis. Near end of the war the Swedes allowed British aircrafts to fly to an airfield near the Norwegian border in readiness for recover of Norway as soon as Germany had surrendered.

You Sir, are a numpty. My father came from the town you are referring to. German officers shot at him (luckily, they missed) when he was 11 years old because he managed to smuggle food into Russian POWs. When "Wehrmacht" invaded in 1940, they used civilians as human shields against Norwegian troops when they advanced on the Narvik front. Later, the Germans went on to torch that entire part of the country (not a house remaining) and proceeded to shoot civilians that did not evacuate.
@Nordost44 I'm not sure about the total number of men we could have mobilized, but the most we ever had called in was 300 000. The army was mainly infantry based but I believe we had around 600 tanks (and 36 assault guns) when the war ended , the air force had around 800 air crafts at the end of the war, the navy at the end of the war had 7 coastal battleships, 4 cruisers, 24 destroyers, 26 submarines, 42 minesweepers, 20 torpedo boats and a number of smaller ships.
Fighting against a regime hell bent on wiping off a race of people from the planet seems to be a better choice don't you think? Well I guess since it wasn't Swedes being wiped out, then why is any of that their business right?
@Mrmoc7 If your going to be mad at swedes, you might just aswell be mad on half of Europe. Most countries were after all neutral, the diffrance were that countries like Sweden, Schweiz, Irland, Portugal, Turkey, Spain were spared the horrors of the second world war, and it upsets people. But Sweden were a tradition democrasy? And as sutch should have better moral ethnics I guess? Even the first democratic nation in modern history still held tight on the apartheid system all the way in to the 60s
@Mrmoc7 I see that you live in the US. You should consider that whitout Roosevelt and Pearl Harbor, the states woud most likely never had entered the war. And in the US like Sweden there were a strong public opinion to stay out of conflict. Add that Sweden were surrounded in 1940 as a demilitarized country leading peace keeping efforts before the war, and had held a strong neutrality policy for 140 years.
That said we didnt do nothing, we did alot, but im not here to write a wall of text.
Both my grandparents served as border guards to Norway and Finland and my (mothers fathers brother) was with the invasion of Europe with the Canadians.
Of course 1/3 of all Swedens weapons during the winterwar in 3,5 months is not any help at all. Does anyone know about the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, if not do that and take a look at a map.
@Bullen934 LOL Ok ok sorry for that It was out of line. But by looking to it I mean if Sweden had such great army why they dont particpated in the war? I am sure Filand would need all that help against soviets.
@ImperialGuard9001 Would of cost resources, Finland was actually loosing, Swedens army wasn't that powerful before after Finland and Soviet were at "peace", we wanted to stay as neutral as we could.
@ImperialGuard9001 We had Worlds third greatest military power then and we stayed outside 2 World Wars becouse of it when the rest of the world was in war. Pluss 40 000 went to help Finland fight Soviet. And about 50 000 joined Germany they got thier own SS division and never lost a battle just like Amerikas 101:st airbourne.
@lolzas Is this about Sweden? Because if it is it's hilarious.... 50 000 volounteers to the waffen ss? How about 250, they did not get an "own" division as you put it. Late in the war they got an "own" company in SS Nordland, perhaps it's time to tell you that there is quite a big size difference between a Division and a Company.... Dear god this made my day! Third Greatest military power...... hahahhahahah
@viktormuf Wrong facts it was 20 000 that joined Nazi germany. And yes they got thier own SS division or company or what ever. And it is true we had third greatest airforce at that time and it was fifth greatest military power i just had to look up the facts again.
@lolzas There were 250 - 300 Swedes in the Waffen SS, our government did not allow SS recruitment in Sweden so anyone who wanted to join would have to go to for example Norway. There were around 8000 Swedes in Finland during the winter war and around 1500 during the continuation war. When our air force was at it's peak it was the 4th largest in the world and that was in the late 1950's.
Our military during the second world war was lousy.
yeah! And we did help the germans to : ) during ww2 there were swedish voluntary in groBdeutchland panzer division! The actually had a name to, like schwedenkompani, something like that.. I didnt know that before, but it is true
swedish soldiers joined Soviet and the alliance as well. That does not mean however that the state of Sweden took a side. We tried to keep it neutral, to defend the peace we let both axis and allies pass our country by train as well as trade for steel.
help to Finland was mostly covert...Sweden had to maintain it's 'neutrality'...if not, it may well have been occupied by the nazis or soviets...not seen as politically good at the time but it turns out it was a great decision...the song name is 'Ja Stolt Svensk' as you replied to one guy? !
Actually we declared ourselves non-belligerent rather than neutral in the winter war which means we were allowed to provide some aid, for example equipment.
Eh, no the finns outnumberd the volunteer core by 16 to 1. And some swedish volunteers didnt reach the front before the winter war was over. 16 to 1 remains true in the continuation war aswell.
Thanks to you! it's not so many videos about swedish soldiers during ww2 so I thought it was good to add one, Cus my great grandpa vad a preparedenss soldier =)
to 1125dj thats not exactley true after 1942-1943 a german invasion of sweden would only have shortened the war for the germans at the time sweden had 400,000 soldiers and had enough tanks and air units to give the germans more then a fight btw the germans had plans to invade sweden about this time, its was to be speaheded by the 25 panzer division lead by a Generalleutnant Adolf von Schell but where later moved to france due to allied invaiosn threat
My grandpa was on the line near Finland when the germans started burning up Finlands countryside.. his officer was 18 and my grandpa was 20.. you can see the picture on my sweden ww2 movie just how close they were... and the 18 year old officer started crying... that must be a great morale boost.

@Bullen934 LOL Ok ok sorry for that It was out of line. But by looking to it I mean if Sweden had such great army why they dont particpated in the war? I am sure Filand would need all that help against soviets.
ImperialGuard9001 1 year ago

Third Greatest military power...... hahahhahahah
viktormuf 1 year ago
@viktormuf Wrong facts it was 20 000 that joined Nazi germany. And yes they got thier own SS division or company or what ever. And it is true we had third greatest airforce at that time and it was fifth greatest military power i just had to look up the facts again.
lolzas 1 year ago
@lolzas There were 250 - 300 Swedes in the Waffen SS, our government did not allow SS recruitment in Sweden so anyone who wanted to join would have to go to for example Norway. There were around 8000 Swedes in Finland during the winter war and around 1500 during the continuation war. When our air force was at it's peak it was the 4th largest in the world and that was in the late 1950's.
Our military during the second world war was lousy.

But not the kind of boyscouts that I would have liked to meet on the camping if I would have been Allied or German.
It would have been a rather unpleasant encounter - for the attacker.

88Tomm88 1 year ago
Bullen934 1 year ago

@Janoov2
swedish soldiers joined Soviet and the alliance as well. That does not mean however that the state of Sweden took a side. We tried to keep it neutral, to defend the peace we let both axis and allies pass our country by train as well as trade for steel.
RQBBAN 1 year ago
@Janoov2 All that about us helping the germans is bullshit. Rent skitsnack!
Anti-racism has become a profitable industry in Sweden.
However, to practise anti-racism - you must find racist somewhere, right?
Complicatorius 1 year ago 3
help to Finland was mostly covert...Sweden had to maintain it's 'neutrality'...if not, it may well have been occupied by the nazis or soviets...not seen as politically good at the time but it turns out it was a great decision...the song name is 'Ja Stolt Svensk' as you replied to one guy? !

Actually we declared ourselves non-belligerent rather than neutral in the winter war which means we were allowed to provide some aid, for example equipment.

Swede were in WW2. There were almost as many Sweds fighting in finska vinterkriget as there were Finnish soldiers.
hardwear10 2 years ago
Eh, no the finns outnumberd the volunteer core by 16 to 1. And some swedish volunteers didnt reach the front before the winter war was over. 16 to 1 remains true in the continuation war aswell.

to 1125dj thats not exactley true after 1942-1943 a german invasion of sweden would only have shortened the war for the germans at the time sweden had 400,000 soldiers and had enough tanks and air units to give the germans more then a fight btw the germans had plans to invade sweden about this time, its was to be speaheded by the 25 panzer division lead by a Generalleutnant Adolf von Schell but where later moved to france due to allied invaiosn threat

My grandpa was on the line near Finland when the germans started burning up Finlands countryside.. his officer was 18 and my grandpa was 20.. you can see the picture on my sweden ww2 movie just how close they were... and the 18 year old officer started crying... that must be a great morale boost.
