@eeemanjam keep it as close as you can to the edge of the fret bar where you place it... for example, if you place it on the 3rd fret, then place it as close as you can to the fret bar that the 3rd and 4th frets share...
@prodigyofpeace1983 it's a japanese made '72 reissue... I may have been using a bit of chorus for that effect, which would have been a guyatone micro chorus... think I'm also using a mxr dyna comp to even out the notes a bit in this clip...
Hey man I love your playing! The greatest version of this song on youtube. I have a question...why did you tune down an put a capo on it? you can play the exact same thing on standard tunning and without a capo!
you're going to have to do what i did to learn the song... watch sonofdrcross's version (under more info)... i can't help you out with tabs or chords, sorry...
@ttlyflossedout If you can't skip strings and arpeggiate chords, you're screwed as far as learning Johnny Marr stuff. Try "Girl Afraid" or "Barbarism Begins at Home" and you'll see what I mean. :B
Thanks for posting! When you mention "tuning to follow along with the album version is around lower E and upper F#/Eb / standard tuning / capo on second fret" in your intro, are you giving two alternatives? Standard tuning with capo on second fret works?
what i meant to say by 'standard tuning' is that all the strings remain the same distance of notes apart from each other as they would in the E-A-D-G-B-E tuning, only now they're tuned lower for the song, so their tuning goes something like: Eb-Ab-Db-Gb-Bb-Eb... it may not be as flat as that however, it's somewhere around a low E and high Eb... you'll have to judge it by ear as you play back the original recording... you'll have to use a capo on the 2nd fret regardless...

What kind of pedal are you using to get all that jangle out of your Tele? Is that the 72 reissue you're using there?
