Best Brits of the all, it makes every one of them feel like a you are at a funeral - never watch one since 2003 well I don't have to because I know from fact that they are utter garbage
@MsMercer17 - I was only eleven years old at the time and don't even remember watching this as i was doing other things , the only thing i remember is bros at the time
It probably didn't help that British music, after experiencing some fantastic highs in the early to mid 80s, was at a real low point here - completely forgettable one hit acts and tired old has beens like phil collins. We had to wait til britpop in the 90s for a revival.
Fantastic stuff but simultaneously a 'hide behind the sofa' level of cringe-worthiness. What were they thinking of getting two people who are not presenters and had no experience to host a major awards ceremony!!
Just goes to show truth really is stranger than fiction.
I think this is quite possibly the worst piece of British television ever broadcast. I remember watching it in disbelief, wondering whether it could get any worse, which of course, it did.
mate phil collins is one of the greatest artist this country as ever produced and you come back with a lame comment about sexuality just to back up some rich kid singer named lily allen, times are tough for music indeed
@kierroo1993 i have no idea what i originally said i dont even know what video this is but i know phil collins has a couple of deent songs but nothing special.lily allen is a million times better.phil collins is famous because he was in a band, same as cheryl cole, girls aloud were amazing but cheryl cole on her own is just a shambles. good thing we have jedward, cant beat them,
@kierroo1993 whys that then? you trying to say either phil or cheryl is supposed to bebetter than the other one? because honestly i wouldnt know who you meant.both are ugly talentless idiots who came out of a great band and became a solo nobody
@kierroo1993 well no wonder you dont like me comparing him to cheryl cole,i honestly expected it to be cheryl cole you liked, glad its not onl y me that cant stand her. weirdly girls aloud was one of my favourite bands however she always did annoy me,always seen her as there just to make the numbers up.and while phil was the main one in the band just like ronan keating in boyzone or whatever, its never really the same once they leave.guess everyone has different taste which is cool rly
For those of you wondering, right at the start of this video is a clip from an interview with former world welterweight boxing champion Lloyd Honeyghan, following his stoppage by American Marlon Starling in what I think was a unification bout. So a double bloody awful week for Great Britain.
I actually thought Sam Fox did very well to keep a smile on her face and at least try and remain professional throughout. Before this I thought she was just a bimbo.
Mick Fleetwood was as wooden as a giant's walking stick, just embarrassingly bloody awful!
Didn't they even rehearse though?
Also the producer who was ultimately responsible for this internationally broadcast debacle should have been quietly taken away, put up against a wall and shot! Not sure how much I can watch.
I don't know why I watched this, I usually avoid things of this ilk. Perhaps because Mick was going to be presenting ;o). Once it got under way, I was hooked! Hilarious. I really regretted not having taped it. Thank you, silkwood88, this is something I've wanted to see again ever since.
You know it's unbelievably awful when they announce the newcomers and Bros and Brother Beyond.... yes for fucks sake cos they were luminaries of the British music scene for decades weren't they.... jesus.
Thanks for posting this though - it was as bad as I thought it was!
it does indeed. i bought a cardigan the other day from topshop...only to find out my nana had one from years ago that was identicle, just a different colour !
It's wonderfully awful and great to watch now BUT at the time it was excrutiating....I was horrified...BUT NOW - well potentially it's the greatest upload of all time Silkwood - many thanks!
Thanks! I'm glad i found this! Everybody has always talked about it but i only ever saw clips of it and i wished that i could see it for myself! I found it with a box of videos in a local charity shop that i am doing my summer work experience at-it was certainly a good find! More clips coming up soon!
Well, this brought back memories as i was there near the front, i was 14 and thought it was great. I was a brosette at the time and they were sitting only a few yards from me. Great teenage experience. well done.
The BBC did used to televise the Brits, and Radio 1 also broadcast it simultaneously with BBC1, up until 1989, when the live broadcast of that year's event was in the hands of an independent producer. Big mistake. And as such, no Radio 1 coverage was provided. I remember this turkey very well and this contributed to the BBC losing rights to air it in the future. The year after, it passed to ITV.
1989 was the first 'Brits', before that it was the BPI awards. It changed it's name to The Brits and relaunched the awards to improve it's reputation and make it more credible.... however after the debacle that ensued it took years to recover its reputation
All the songs in the best single is listenable!

The BBC introduction to the show sounds so stuffy, compared to today's laid-back presenters.
