Secondly, these buffaloes are all domestic buffaloes. Each morning, they are taken outside of their sheds, and taken to river / pond so that they can bathe, as well as have a morning stroll in the city / village

heya - those are mostly water buffalo --- I don't think water buffalo have sacred status --- the only time I remember them in myth is when Durga slays the buffalo headed demon - it's a scene portrayed a lot in religious art...
