Mariah's voice is not forced. actually, I think the reason you think it's forced is precisely because it isn't. Mariah Carey's mother is an opera singer and her technique is near perfect, which to those wanting a more "down to earth" sound, Mariah could sound "affected" or "forced" but it's really the opposite.

I love Kelly and her voice is amazing! And I'm sure the purpose wasn't to be compare to Mariah! But to sing Mariah's version you gotta have vocal range both in the highs, which, Kelly has, and lows. Which, is where Kelly's version didn't cut it. But still Kelly is definitely, up there with Mariah, Whitney, and Celine as the best pop voices.

The producers along with the singers themselves help to create modified versions of the songs so that they can show their biggest talent, and also save time. They cannot sing the entire song half the time because they had what, ten different contestants and what not? So...no. You are incredibly wrong on that end.

Leona is like a mix of Whitney, Mariah, and Kelly... But Leona does NOT have a strong low register (low range/pitch) when she sings, unless she's belting. She should have taken a tip from Kelly here, and raised the lower pitch octave by a bar or two. Leona is above Mariah NOW, but back in Mariah's glory days before she lost her range, Mariah was way above Leona. Same with Whitney. I love Leona Lewis, but all of these singers are their own people and are all amazing for different reasons.

Kelly is an amazing singer with so much potential, but I honestly feel this wasn't her best performance. Of course, she was the most original and creative with it than anyone else I've ever seen (as usual :P), but I feel the highest notes were just a tad too high. It sounded a little strained, as though she practiced too much beforehand and shot her own voice down. Even still, Kelly was amazing to listen to, and she is such an inspiration. (: Even after so many years, she is my favorite singer.
