I was at the mall and they had a piano there and I knew how to play the long and winding road. I sneak over and played the song and sang it using garth gates version and people went nuts.They were wondering how did this black guy know this song, let alone hit those notes. So much groaning, twisted faces, and wasted emotion. One day I hope these guys understand that the more *plainly* you sing this song, the more powerful it is. Macca's 1969 studio recording still heads the field, and one reason is its simplicity of attack. These boy-band types with their moany-groany ornamentation don't add, but subtract. It ends up as less than it is.
