The BAR did serve as part of the military adviser's arsenal in the early days of the Vietnam War before it was replaced by the M60 which in turn was replaced by the M240 MAG.

The M240 is renowned for its reliability and as an awesome but heavy weapon. It really puts things in perspective knowing that one of the best mgs in the world is actually a modernized BAR adapted for belt feed.

No, The M60 was not a "redesigned" BAR. And The M240 is designed after the FN MAG. The M60 Was made by combining features of the MG-42 and M1919A6. ALSO, the M240 was Not renowned for its reliability, because thay made the M249 (based off of FN Minimi)to fix some of the problems with the M240, but the M240 was a good gun, but it WAS not based off the BAR.

The M249 was made to be a lighter variant that could accept the 5.56 ammunition and feed from both a conventional magazine as well as the ammo belt. NOT because it was more reliable than the M240. If what you said were true the M249 being better it would have replaced the M240 on tanks, helicopters and other heavy equipment.

i never said the M249 replaced it, i said it was made to fix some of the flaws, like being able to take it into combat with more ease cause of light weigt and lower caliber.

You said that the M240 wasn't known for being reliable and that the M249 was supposed to fix its flaws. The M249 isn't really "fixing" the M240 as it was replacing the M60 as the SAW.

i didn't say iot was unreliable, i know hoe reliable it is, it only had a few know misfires. IM saying, the M249 FIXED the flaw of being to heavy, the M249 is lighter and uses lower caliber, thats all im saying.

the bar was known to be reliable it just required maintenance. inbetween battles would require cleaning unlike the m1 garand it required very little

lol, a BAR is not that great of a gun, its very heavy, its really long, so its not maneuverable. and its only got a 20 round clip, also kinda hard to reload

yea that is true then nevermind screw teh B.A.R altho it was a good weapon in the hand of a trained gi then i would take an m16 because the fact that its standard issue in the us marines and that's saying somthing

The m16 has better (not more powerful) ammo, as it has higher velocities. The M16 is three times as accurate as an Ak, you would already have killed someone with an M16, while youll still be trying to hit the guy with the AK. The marines tested both the M16 and the AK and they chose the M16/M4 because of superior handeling, accuracy, and reliability that the AK could never compeat with. Ak is commi, M16 is American, there is reason enough that the M16 is better!!

you can bury an ak in the sand, it'll work, mud, it'll work, hammer the barrel, it'll work, m16 takes about 2 weeks to train troops to use, ak about 4 hours, m16, you touch it wrong,, it jams or breaks

the M16 was like that in vietnam, but its not now. The M16 is STILL a very durable weapon,not as much as an AK, but alot more than any other countrys firearm . But, why waste bullets with an AK, when the enemy will be down in one shot of an M16, the M16 is dead on accurate, the AK is far off, also the M16 is easier to control at full auto.

And the weapon works alot, people are always streathing the truth saying the m16 jams anyway possible. the AK jams more than what ppl thing, ppl think it don't jam at all.

I don't get my sourses from "battle rifle countdown" or whatever, my info is from book, first hand, and studies, i don't wait for the TV to tell me what something is like. Those programs can EASILY be set up to make one think thats how it acts. YES the M16 was TERRIBLE in vietnam, BUT now it is possibly the greatest assult rifle. IM NOT saying the AK is a bad gun, im saying, the AK and the M16 are the best, BUT the M16 is better, and IDFC what "battle rifle countdown" says.
