Long Beach is still a very strong city. It's just sad how ebbed North Long Beach and Downtown (North of Ocean most notably around PCH ) became. I remember I was angry when they closed down the Dooley's there off Long Beach Boulevard like was that in 1991!!! I remember the freight train line track that used to run South of the 405 that they converted into that Metro commuter Blue Line. I remember the Gemco off of Atlantic near the 405 Fwy in the mid 80's!! Gee 562vert why does LB have bad areas?

@DetroitLove4U i love the old pacific electric trains im going to do a vid just for the pe lines in long beach.. when blacks came to LB they stuck them off Anaheim St. and California Ave in the 1900s thru the 1950s blacks could not live anywhere else in the city ...just as in LA white flight happend in the 1960s so did the jobs..etc etc we know the story..but also i think the city made a big mistake by letting hundreds of houses get demolished to make way for apartments in the 1970s riff

@562vert Did you know that the west end of Compton bordering Paramount and North Long Beach was where middle class Whites live prior to say 1960 where the North and central parts of Compton was occupied by Blacks therein??? South Gate, Compton, Lynwood, and Paramount saw massive White flight mostly starting in like 1957. One may notice that a lot of houses built in Lakewood more notably Anaheim and Buena Park were built in the late 50's to mid 60's. That's where they went.

@DetroitLove4U yes i do recall the flight to those new incorporated cites by whites back then..and those were marketed in a way draw the white families from south central , compton , etc... . it worked...so did the blockbusting that was done by real estate agents . Im in Buena Park almost everyday and yes when i drive from central long beach im surrounded by houses and apts built in the 1920s then when as i go east on the streets i notice the 50s and 60s era tract houses..

@DetroitLove4U i live off pch in long beach and growing up in the 80s and 90s i saw the older blacks who owned their homes since the 60s and 70s and they had good jobs and they worked their asses off just for their kids turn make the family house into a crack house of the 80s and 90s.... knuckle heads of the 1940s and 1950s in the ghettos across America eventually grew up and got jobs..since the wars were going on manufacturing..etc come the 1970s and 80s.. those jobs were not there anymore...

@562vert My pops used to tell me about Long Beach back when he came from New Mexico in 1961 straight to your town. He said Long Beach BLVD even through Compton was nothing shy of orderly atmospheres along the roadside for the most part. Although it may sound like I'm being critical of Long Beach - I HATE LOS ANGELES. Los Angeles compared to Long Beach .......... well for starters don't recall no large scale police force corruption in Long Beach to memory. Just so sad that there is gangs in LB.
