UFC has never had legitimate competition in the U.S....they have been the Microsoft of MMA...even, if they put out a lame ass event...like the Silva vs. Belfort fight....it was weak and predictable.
In Japan, K-1 had Pride to compete against which made the shows worth watching cause they were trying to outdo one another. sometimes they'd co-promote events as well.
