people on here really need to just calm down. anyone with EARS can hear that they are bad. musical theatre "nerd" or not. yes i am aware doris day was great yeah, whatever, i'm just saying that CLEARLY here, she was not. and also the theory of "if factory workers can't sing" then musicals shouldn't be written bc then NO character would be able to sing, so that is just plain stupid. sorry.
@SingingFool123 "CLEARLY" most people disagree with you, or nobody would watch this video. You're free to express your opinion, but please do it in a nice way. Your comment is rude, and although I disagree with it, nobody has attacked you over your opinion. So, why are you leaving yet another negative comment? If you don't like it, don't watch it, and please don't comment again. Thank you in advance.
I Love Doris in this -- she hit the notes at least -- if you've ever heard the original stage acst recording, Janis Paige is flat as a pancake -- makes me wonder why they would release a soundtrack when she was so flat in this song. ?
I was brought up in that era, the 50s and 60s was such a wonderful time to grow up in. I was a big fan of Doris Day and went to all her movies and bought all her records. I'm still a big fan of hers today. .
@SingingFool123 Well, you're certainly entitled to your opinion, but I completely disagree! Back then, I think that people put a lot more heart and soul into their singing than they tend to now. Now it's all about perfect technique and perfect vibrato, but a lot of times it seems like people aren't paying attention to the message of the song. I'm 19, and I would have LOVED to have lived in the 1940's/50's. But, to each her own!
@DorisDayFanatic yeah, i see what you're saying but i just feel like they are screaming. and idt people are trying to have to perfect technique just to have it, it's like a safer way to sing so people don't ruin their voices. but yeah, i see your side of this too lol
I think in the forties and fifties a LOT of attention was paid to perfection in vocal delivery, much more than today.
I absolutely HATE musicals, but Doris made me watch this with delight. Her timing was, as always, perfect and her acting was unusually natural for these days. She literally put life into the lyrics.
I've seldom seen a moviestar ooze so much charisma. I'm getting more fan by the minute.
Never an Oscar. There's something awfully wrong with that Acadamy.
@SingingFool123 I think if you were used to modern musicals were people open there mouths to sing and a computer generated vocal comes out then yes, this could be viewed as bad singing. What I like about it is that the imperfection of her voice is part of what makes it so beautfiful. I also like that in legitimate musical theatre the perfomers put their character into the singing, like here everyone is not singing perfectly, but would you expect a group of women in a factory to be great singers?
I got the CD of the 1954 Orig BWY cast, Janis Paige was Babe. It's amazing how close this sounds to the Orig , but some of the words intro were changed.
I love Doris Day in all her vitality, humor and passion. Nice to hear this old jingle. Darling. Sort of like the fun South Pacific tune, "The ain't nothing like a Dame!"
My school is holding tryouts for this play, and this exact video is one of the links the teacher used for us to learn the lines and learn how to sing it for the audition if we pick this song to do. :)
Strange how many lyrics they had to clean up for the movie, considering that movie censorship was already in decline by 1957. But the original line was "All you gotta do is be polite with him/And they've got you spendin' the night with him." They could have gotten that and some of the other lines past 1957 censors if they wanted to fight, but I guess they were thinking of this as a "family" film.
Doris will live forever in our memories and hearts! I was not even born at the time of this film, but I learn to admire her talent as a singer and actress! This number is so funny and the song is great for the stage! We love you Doris!
Doris Day Is AMAAAZZZINNG!!, she is and fanatstic singer, and lets not forget her Acting is Fabb!!! Calamity Jane,Tea for two and this film our My favourites,i love all her films.. i would love to meet her !! (:
Her films are shown and have been shown millions of times why is this film left behind especially since it is the only time Doris was nominated for the Oscar!
@Rouben19 Sorry, Rouben, but it's my understanding she was nominated more than once -- "Love Me or Leave Me", "Calamity Jane" ... I could be wrong, but that's what I've heard. Nonetheless, she's a National Treasure!
