  • I see lots of guys at my gym doing this sort of stuff. They think that they are strong but:

    1) The expose themselves to serious injury for improper form or can't control the weight.

    2) Don't get results in the long run because they don't train properly

  • Sometimes people do this as warm up sets and overload the bar to far more than they can squat. And then when they do their working sets, the bar seems a lot lighter.

  • Not a fail. Not sure if this is what he is going for but a lot of powerlifters or olympic lifters will but heavier then their max on and work on justunlocking the hips for the squat. It helps your body adjust to heavier loads.

  • The only way I can say that guy is doing it right is if he is following one of the workouts in pavel tsatsouline's beyond bodybuilding. You take a weight 100+lbs of your 1rm then do high reps of squats on the highest possible bar while still having a small ROM (1/32 squats) Do that for 2 workouts, then drop down a peg and lower the reps, until you get down to 3 reps ATG. The muscle is worked around 20 degrees of the rom of the joint angle, allowing for strength transfer at lower depths.
