i saw this robot on ultimate weapons and a swear to god they were using an XBOX controller to control the robot!! it was one of the funniest things i had seen,.
I would be scared to death if the helicopter was after me, there would be nothing to take cover behind, I am interested to see what it has become 2 1/2 years later!
The first one looks like that platform with the mounted machine gun from "Maximum Overdrive" LOL, the second one just looks lame. They both seem too awkward, clumsy and inaccurate to be effective in combat. I can see an enemy soldier destroying them both with little difficulty compared to an actual human combatant. This technology has a long way to go before it's ready for the battlefield.
This was done two years ago on limited company funds (no govt help whatsoever) to prove that the concept was possible. Perhaps if you had been involved in making it all work you would be more appreciative of what was accomplished.
Hey, I'm all for killer robots. Maybe in ten years they'll develop robots that are battlefield ready. They'd have to be faster than humans, able to withstand more damage than a human wearing body armor, have deadly weaponry, pinpoint accuracy, able to move decisively with little difficulty on any terrain during any weather conditions, be energy efficient and most of all have some form of advanced AI allowing them to quickly identify and dispatch targets. None of this RC stuff.
@nri2006 is it illegal to make these kinds of vehicles? for the average person to mount weapons to robots, do you have to get approved or have a permit? what are the legalities?
