ummm...not even close...in truth, it does tie up all the loose ends made up in previous games and it does share alot of similarities of mgs1 but its in no way a recap...sequal is the best description becuase mgs2 doesnt really count as a sequal...mgs2 is just a game in the mgs universe with a queer katana wielding douche

Thats true, Incase anyone didn't know, Metal Gear started as a 45 minute long 2D game, with not such a great story, and NOW look at it, by the way, Metal Gear saga IS being continued, But that the end of the Solid Snake saga... :c

Story: Mgs3 (it won't make your brain hurt that much). Everything else (except for the awesome boss fights which in my opinion are even): Mgs4. Play it!

sorry man I was annoyed when i posted that but mgs portable ops is more than just big boss being a good soldier like gray fox's past plus big boss finding out someone in his country made volgon launch the nuke causing the boss to die all links up with mgs4 and zero

It was basically an expansion for mgs3. If course the controls and graphics were not going to be the same (psp), but it was still a solid (<<hahaha) game. The only Metal Gear games I don't like are the Acid ones.
It's Raikov, they made him look exactly like Raiden and even with a similar name just as a joke for fan's. There is no link to him and Raiden (as far as I know and I haven't played MGS4.)

Null is based in mgs portable ops which is before mgs1. Its actually based after mgs snake eater and is clearly stated by big boss that his name is frank eager and that is gray fox's name.
Want more proof check wilkip or look at gray fox tributes and the odds are you will see null on them to cause he is GRAY FOX

Sorry, I misunderstood the comment because I read it too quickly. Yes, it's true I haven't played the portable ops games, although their stories aren't a major plot point in the series. I have however, played metal gear, metal gear 2 solid snake, mgs1, mgs2, mgs3, and mgs4. no clue about the history of metal gear? i know just about all there is about it besides the portable ops stories, which aren't even a major part of the series.
i mean, you do find out the major is behind the nuking of granins research facility, but that's really useless information, because you already know the major was a bad guy anyway, he's the reason behind the Patriots for God's sake.
Well how would you know that if you havent played it i can tell you now mgs portable ops is very important to the mgs series. It links everything together and a lot of it links up to mgs4 and without it you are missing out on a lot of the story.
Anyway thats your call i cant imagine you know almost everything about mgs if you have missed a big part of the story in mgs portable ops. I bet your thinking i cant have missed out that much well why dont you play it and find out.
I never said they don't link some things together to make a better understanding of the plot to the fans, but that doesn't make it a major plot point. If mgs portable ops were never made at all, the plot by the end of mgs4 would still be the same. it just adds some twists to the story, although i'm not saying that they're just some games that don't matter. i've played around in them a little bit on my friend's game, and yes they're good games.
it's just that they're little side stories that connect some things, metal gear solid 4 has basically all of the information you need to connect everything anyways
portable ops isent that important it just basicly shows that big boss can be a good team leader and "outer heaven" was based on genes "soliders heaven" and the only other important part was where ocelot kills some people at the end (can't remember who they where just that its important havent played it in a while)

Yeah that's not solid, that's naked snake. He is the man that Solid, Liquid, and Solidus were cloned after. There are other important people in 3 who have their roles revealed in four. I'm not going to spoil them though. Their is a rank of Fox that you can achieve when you complete the game, that is probably what you are thinking of sir.

I like mgs3 better than mgs2 because in 3 you play Snake (i know that Snake is a clone of big boss who you play as in mgs3 btw) and i like Snake better than Raiden , Raiden is still cool though long live MGS

The fact Solid Snake isn't even alive during Snake Eater would make that hard.
You play as Naked Snake. Who at the end of Snake Eater kills "The Boss" and thus earns the title of Boss. Making him Big Boss.
He is then Cloned. 3 survived. Solid, Liquid and Solidus.
So Solid Snake is a clone of Big Boss, who is Naked Snake, who you play in Snake Eater.
Neither Big Boss or Solid Snake have ever had the title Fox.

Null is based in mgs portable ops which is before mgs1. Its actually based after mgs snake eater and is clearly stated by big boss that his name is frank eager and that is gray fox's name.
Want more proof check wilkip or look at gray fox tributes and the odds are you will see null on them to cause he is GRAY FOX

Sorry, I misunderstood the comment because I read it too quickly. Yes, it's true I haven't played the portable ops games, although their stories aren't a major plot point in the series. I have however, played metal gear, metal gear 2 solid snake, mgs1, mgs2, mgs3, and mgs4. no clue about the history of metal gear? i know just about all there is about it besides the portable ops stories, which aren't even a major part of the series.

Well how would you know that if you havent played it i can tell you now mgs portable ops is very important to the mgs series. It links everything together and a lot of it links up to mgs4 and without it you are missing out on a lot of the story.
Anyway thats your call i cant imagine you know almost everything about mgs if you have missed a big part of the story in mgs portable ops. I bet your thinking i cant have missed out that much well why dont you play it and find out.

I never said they don't link some things together to make a better understanding of the plot to the fans, but that doesn't make it a major plot point. If mgs portable ops were never made at all, the plot by the end of mgs4 would still be the same. it just adds some twists to the story, although i'm not saying that they're just some games that don't matter. i've played around in them a little bit on my friend's game, and yes they're good games.

portable ops isent that important it just basicly shows that big boss can be a good team leader and "outer heaven" was based on genes "soliders heaven" and the only other important part was where ocelot kills some people at the end (can't remember who they where just that its important havent played it in a while)

play mgs portable ops and you find and zero made volgin launch the nuke so the boss would av to die he was behind it but you are led to believe in snake eater volgon did it by chance gene rules

Yeah that's not solid, that's naked snake. He is the man that Solid, Liquid, and Solidus were cloned after. There are other important people in 3 who have their roles revealed in four. I'm not going to spoil them though. Their is a rank of Fox that you can achieve when you complete the game, that is probably what you are thinking of sir.

Actually, I'm not sure. It was use in alot of adverts and previews of the game, but I'm not sure if it's actually in the final game.
If it's in Snake Eater, it would be in Subsistance, they wouldn't have left it out.
It might be a cutscene triggered the first time you eat a snake?

I like mgs3 better than mgs2 because in 3 you play Snake (i know that Snake is a clone of big boss who you play as in mgs3 btw) and i like Snake better than Raiden , Raiden is still cool though long live MGS

something i dont understand,this is set before MGS2,but Snake has both eyes on MGS2.yet on the MGS4 trailers he has an eye patch.i'm just a bit confused...unless,Snake wasen't really there on MGS2.wasen't it S3 or something? Solid Snake Simulation...gah,MGS confuses me sometimes.

Ok,As the other 2 replies where confusing as hell, here is it.
Snake is a Clone, along with Liquid snake, of a person called Big Boss.
In Metal Gear 3, you Play as Big Boss, NOT Solid Snake.
Then in MGS4, Snakes eye is fine, it's just a binocular type thing.

i had the same confusion with the eye situation...
if you have MG2 and MGS3Subsistence you would have heard Solidus and the end of MGS3S of the "Enfant Terrible Project" they cloned Jack "Snake" because he is a Green Beret, like Rambo...
therefore the clone would not have a eye missing. great game all the same... best story line IMHO, it felt like i was playing a film.

nah,sorry.that was a bit of a harsh joke,i just hate WoW.never have i played such a boring,tedious,idiot-filled,mind-numbingly rubbish game in my life.the main reason i hate it is because people think that having a high level character somehow makes you a better person irl.you can be top ranked player in any game,have all the rare items,have lots of money in the game,and you can STILL be a prat in real life.
