I don't agree with everything, but there is one truth. If we have fun while playing a game with mass destruction(for example), who the fuck cares much more about history than to kick some asses? The real issue is that people seem to think having good gameplay and good story is one of those 'have your cake and eat it' concepts where you can't do one without sacrificing the other. Story greatly improves gameplay, but it's really a Normal bell curve, with 50% storyline interwoven into the 50% gameplay with 100% fluidity making the perfect game. Really? I mean really? Stories were put into games because people enjoyed them whilst playing a main character in one of them. If we didn't like stories, they wouldn't be so common in our lives. Ya know, It's a good video, and it makes good points, but Zero Punctuation has nicely countered all of them. And in all honesty, I think the point that ZP makes is that most professional reviews (ones on the sites) are all sucking up for more pay. He on the other hand is a raging ball of hatred towards everything, and I can honestly respect that, because this world is shit. And I can't stop laughing when he rips my favorite game apart.

games that focus on story usually only last 1 play through for me. i normally only replay a campain if it was fun. multiplayer is ruined by retards. also some companies are just naturally better at story, for example: bioshock 2 had a compelling story and personally i enjoyed the gameplay, but then i felt the multiplayer was severly lacking. tis why fallout is not multiplayer.

stories in games make games better, it makes them more immersive, oh I'm sorry, does it make me a pussy for wanting a medium to evolve? if you want nothing but game play go and play fucking atari, sometimes people like context for the stuff they do in games, giving them characters they like and getting to control them makes them feel like they're in control of the story thus making it more satisfying when they beat a boss or kill a legion of badies.

I like single player and multiplayer games. I enjoy story driven games like Mass Effect and multiplayer games like Halo and Gears. I like to have verity in what I play and not just stick to one or the other. Also Portal is a really fun game with great gameplay mechanics.

I stopped caring about anything he might have to say when claiming he wanted gameplay, and they shat on Portal, which was entirely about interesting gameplay in a style that hadn't been done before. Not to mention the assumption that everyone plays games for the exact same reason.
Here's a tip, I have Golden God in Super Meat Boy, but I love games like Amnesia more, when the gameplay is redumentary. Why? ATMOSPHERE.

By Valve's own admission, Portal was a safety net in case you didn't like anything else in the orange box, and nobody expected it to become so popular. I agree that Portal and Portal 2 are both excellent games, but the first one was far from a "style that hadn't been done before." It has many platforming and physics based puzzle elements - the only "new" mechanic (recycled from Narbacular Drop) was portals.

I honestly cant tell if this guy is serious or not, because sadly, there ARE people who think this. The gaming industry wont progress by taking any one path. You can JUST focus on story, or JUST focus on gameplay, the best games have the best balance of all the aspects. easy example? Half life.
You play a game where you are always in control, but also get a great story with it, some fun character interaction and you learn about black mesa as the lore.

@MsViollentia While I did enjoy the series, I have to say that MGS sadly focus too much on having a cinematic experience rather than a immersive one. the storys are great, I love it, but it lacks the player interaction other games have.
Id say a game that shows a step in right direction is Psychonauts, Raz was written really well, where dispite the style, he sounds and acts more human than some Photorealistic characters Ive seen. the game is also a solid blend of all aspects of game design.

@Lostprophetzzz As far as plagiarism goes, pause at 3:47 or somewhere close and read. Secondly, a parody is a parody. Apparently the maker of this video had some views about Yahtzee and the way he treated things that he saw fit in sharing with people in that way.
Personally I'll have to agree that there is so much grieving over so many aspects of games that the games themselves are treated more as a movie and people just like to criticize it instead of playing it for having fun.
