  • Nice work

  • wow not bad :)

  • Good work. Continue to train hard ! But, just don't make your face killer at the end ^^!

  • I do commend you on your efforts. I would like to see an updated post to see the corrections the you instructors have advised you to do.

  • I do

  • Subscribed. Great job. I really enjoy being part of the Tracy Kenpo system. Very effective and the kata (forms) have a purpose. You can easily visualize where the attacker(s) is/are and what needs to be done next to defend against that attacker. With time and practice everyone gets better at their form. You seem to have the basic motions of Long 1 down, now it's time to perfect them!

  • looking this

    from chile!! bow!!

  • heeyy Courtenay.., u're quite good

and as Typhon3808 said, we just got 2 options:

1.- Kick Every Single Ass from Every Single fault-finder out there in order to demostrate that American Kenpo isn't a Game at all

2.- Let Them Say Whatever; But don't lend any help to that kind of people who sometimes attempt to discriminate against other people like us just by the fact that people like us wanna make a difference between being the bullied one and the self-defender; Keep Going! =D Keep It Up! =D

  • There is absolutely no reason to be critical of this young lady. It takes courage for a brand new karateka to post a video on Youtube. I have studied Matsubayashi Shorin Ryu and Kenpo for over 30 years (I was a student at one time of Jay T. Will) I admire the young lady for submitting herself to criticism and the ridicule that comes with posting such items.

Courtenay please keep up your hard work and training. Pray you never are called upon to defend yourself and train as if it is inevitabl

  • Gotta admit, you are cute. Other than that, stick with your training and you WILL improve. Ignore the criticizing idiots. I seriously doubt that they're any better. You're only a yellow belt now, you're not supposed to be an expert yet. Sheesh...

  • @typhon3808 I'm actually a Purple now. :) I probably would have gotten by Blue already if not for the birth of my son, haha. Thanks for your kind words. :)

  • First off... No instructor should be teaching some one something they are not properly capable of doing. Especially at a very low rank... By the time you reach the knowledge level to actually learn and understand this kata..... You will, or may understand what Im saying. Bad Sensei... Cant blame the student, But I would highly recommend not doing criteria out of your rank level... This is why it takes time to master the art.... Not rush ahead, and especially for a tournament...

  • i was in my purple belt and still never got to learn long 1....im not taking kenpo anymore though cause of small differences with the instructor haha

  • Okay, it is January 19th 2010, good luck in all of your competitions, I don't think you will need it by seeing how you practice.

Look back on this video to see where you were. Look at your abilities now and see if you have made your stances and transitions consistent. LF1 is about settling in to the stances and popping the power punch.

Keep doing videos from time to time and review your progress.

  • damn.. this chick is real cute but what is going on here? Is this what Tracy Kenpo is supposed to look like? And you guys who are giving positive feedback... what could you possibly be thinking?

  • i dont mean to be dis encouraging but this stuff looks pretty bad. I would suggest asking whoever taught you that to explain each movement and transition and if it doesnt make sense to you or they can't, then you re probably learning from the wrong person.

  • Why would my looks have anything to do with how I do my Kata's? When I filmed this Kata I had only just learned it. I was using it as a reference to how much better I could do.

When I competed with this Kata, I won Gold. :)

  • I dont think its you. The problem is your "kata." But I see now its Tracy Kenpo. Congratulations on winning gold but who hosted the tournament?.. consider the source. Every TKD guy i talk to is a champion of something but what does that mean? You can see exactly what a person knows by how they perform the forms. What pattern does Long 1 make? What power principals are used? What theme was this form based on?

  • Bear in mind that I am only a yellow belt. I have been in Martial Arts for a grand total of just under 3 months. I am very new to the world of Martial arts, and yeah, my form isn't perfect. I know that. :)

The tournament I competed in was the Coastal Martial Arts Open tournament. It's held every year in Port Alberni, and each year we take home min. 5 medals. Our dojo is highly respected, and have won 2 gold medals in the World Tournament in 2003. So yeah, I think my Sensei is a good teacher.

  • That is a yellow belt you are wearing in this video? hmm.. with a black gi? but still the questions I asked are actually yellow belt material. But hey, you seem like a really nice girl so im sure you will never need to try and use any of this stuff so whats the difference? I say do whatever makes you happy. That is what life is all about. And with only 2 months experience, thats a different story. well good luck.

  • Most, if not all, Kenpo wear black Gi's. This video was filmed before I had taken my Yellow belt test, so I was roughly 2 months in to my training. The reason why I am taking the classes is because I *have* been attacked before, and I *have* been stalked before. Thank you for your comments. :)

  • Have a look at my other Long form 1 and see for yourself. :) I will be uploading the one where I competed with in tournament as soon as I get it.

  • Long 1 kata uses only two stances, horse and hard bow. In you block to punch

transitions you used some hard bows, some soft bows and once or twice none at all. Slow the kata down to use it as a tool to work you stances and the speed with proper form will come....

  • Thank you very much for your input. :) After seeing the video a few times myself, I can definitely see what you are talking about. Thanks!

  • very sharp! hope to see more kata!

  • Thank you. :)

  • your very welcome! how long have you studied? good luck at the tourney!

  • I have been studying since July 14th. So Just under 2 months. :)
