  • why is this video 3 minutes long??!!!!! just get to the point u fucking retard!!!!!

  • Only problem is when folks go to work and are forced to use PCs at work it throws you off

  • THANK YOU!!!!!!!! This is my first mac after decades of pc ownership; and this is a huge help in making the transition. Thank You so much!!

  • I think the natural way is cool, but I have been using it the regular way all my life, so I keep it on that. :D

  • Everyone reading this tap 6 on your key bored while watching the video.. it sounds pretty awesome :D

  • @MacManLtd finally, someone that understands. I love OS X Lion's natural scroll direction, it makes perfect sense.

  • your a hero my good sir :)

  • DUDE! youre totaly right. I Buy my second mac, thisone with lion, and the first that I found that this scroll issue!! :P

    thanks for the tip!

  • Both ways of scrolling are "natural". It's either you imagine the wheel SCROLLING or BEING the page. (After all it's a wheel, not your finger.)

  • thank you SO much, just bought my iMac and i when i found out that it scrolled that way, i was so dissapointed, couldn't even find the option to reverse it :p oh well, thanks nonetheless ;)

  • thanks man! Fixed it! ;)

  • The correct way is the way the consumer wants it... not the way Apple wants it to be.

  • 1:45 haha look at his face... Im confused.

  • I've used lion. However, the natural scrolling would actually feel more natural if you are touching the screen, not the trackpad or the scrollwheel. Most computer users prior to OS X Lion learned to scroll by interfacing and dragging down the scrollbar, not the page, that's why it became counter-intuitive for many when Lion 'corrected' scrolling.

  • Seems updating to the new iTunes has the same effect in that program, but there isn't anywhere in the menu to change it back.

  • is his dock on hide or disabled? and if disabled how to do it?

  • @VeoPress what was dumber her buying an apple in the first place or returning the computer lol.. =-)

  • i actually got use to it really quick, maybe cuz I've never used a touchpad before

  • if your hardware doesn't bring up with this option (as mine) you can do it with a terminal command: defaults write ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences com.apple.swipescrolldirection -bool false

  • Thank you.

  • maaaan your voice is irritating - I feel for you - I only have to listen to it for 2:59 - you've got it CONSTANT, even when thinking to yourself!

  • I don't like the new "natural" scrolling but it makes much more sense when your swiping between pages or desktops.

  • my system preferences doesnt have that option. so im fucked then right?

  • The dog's sad that his computer can't handle farmville.

  • annoying fucker

  • How do I get that mouse pane? You don't say what you press you just assumed we know how to do it! I go to system preferences > mouse preferences and all there is was scroll speed, pointer speed etc. Not that page, how do I open it? I HATE THIS SCROLLING REVERSED!

  • @WadeVideoPromotion Its actually under "trackpad" which is the icon to the right of the mouse in system pref

  • I WONDER WHAT THE DOG IS THINKING?

PROBABLY, TAKING A SHIT AND EATING IT I BET.

  • @VeoPress Would have been better if they had of left it the way it was and then added it as a preference, rather than somewhat forcing it on people. Just out of curiosity, how did your grandma get OS X Lion, did you do it or something?

  • your last trillion vids have either been about iOS or OS X...

  • I actually like "natural scrolling".

  • Hahahaha it drove me nuts too

  • ok now here's the deal, when I uncheck "natural scrolling" I get the old way in which scrolling up goes up and down goes down, but I get a reverse way in switching between fullscreen apps and desktops. like when I move my four fingers right, I'll go to the previous app or desktop and when I scroll them left I'll go to the next fullscreen app or desktop!!!!!!! If there's a solution plz help and if there isn't i rather stick to the "natural scrolling"

  • thanks my trackpad is finally normal again. =D

  • I didn't even notice it was reversed until someone told me.

  • Apple just always has to do things different. Even when different is not better.

  • Can you and Jon4Lakers double team and get that moron SoldierKnowsBest out of here?

  • I could get used to that.

  • noticed you zoomed in on the screen there. I have lost that capability, well it comes on and off randomly!!!

  • Your dog is right. Thank you.

  • Can't believe you people put up with this. Having Apple decide the way you scroll up and down. For everyone that 'fixes' it there will be 10 apple users going 'OH YEAH BUT THIS IS WAY BETTER BECAUSE STEVE JOBS DECIDED TO IMPLEMENT THIS WHILE HE WAS STROKING HIS BONER'

  • @venerableraptor Its funny cus hes head now. :)

  • DATS A MAD DOG!!!

  • THANK YOU!

  • damm dude!! thanks. did search on google. macrumors is full of idiots telling everyone to get used to it. kind of remind of my jobs mac administrator. again thanks

  • In the finder

  • How can I add the today tab in lion

  • thank you!!! simple and practical tip!

  • you know how to solve the problem with the expose?

  • Issue solved - 'Invert the mouse'

  • People that don't like OS X Lion's scrolling don't get it, it's not reversed. The old way was reversed.

Its now like your webpage is a piece of paper, if you push the paper up, you continue to read further down the page.

  • @MacManLtd People are so inpatient! It takes a bit of getting used to, but when you've used it for a while, it feels a lot better and more natural than the old way. I wish people would at least give this along with some other new features a chance.

  • @MacManLtd no, its reversed. the last 30 years of computing and all macs not on lion and every other os would show that Lions way is reversed.

  • @MacManLtd What a true mac drone talking hahah, it is annoying for a scroll wheel tho. Nice for the touch pad tho

  • @MacManLtd thing is that it's not a piece of paper, it's an image on my screen, and the 'old' way feels wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy more natural

  • @MacManLtd For scroll wheel devices (not Apple trackpads), Apple's way is UNDOUBTEDLY reversed. Know why? 1) Apple did not invent or even contribute to the design of the scroll wheel. They have no right to say what is natural. 2) No one complained about scroll wheels being inverted until Apple imposed this new default setting. Even grandmothers could pick up the scroll wheel and would find themselves pulling down to scroll down, not pulling down to scroll up.

  • @MacManLtd And finally, not everyone just uses OSX. Industry professionals in areas like graphics design, product design, archviz, music production, etc. generally have to bounce between Windows/OSX/Linux workstations. Getting used to this new default means suddenly everything else is flipped which means one would be excluding himself to just being used to OSX's way of doing things and no longer versatile. So I recommend people using scroll wheels turn this unnatural setting off ASAP.

  • I take it you don't like Lion Chris. You seemed a little cynical and impatient in this video and it just seemed that way.

As for reverse scrolling, I took to it like a fish to water. Within an hour it felt second nature to me and actually found myself scrolling that way when I restored Snow Leopard for a brief period! It IS more logical when you think about it. Up moves the page up, down moves the page down. It surprises me that YOU struggle to adapt when you own so many iOS devices. I own none

  • Don't see it as a problem, WE ARE BORG, WE WILL ADAPT

I must admit, when you look at it, it seems more logical, but yea, after doing it one way for YEARS, having it reversed is awkward :P But I will adapt :) Kinda like it that navigation becomes a challenge again. (keeps things fresh)

  • i have a macbook about 3 years old and can't get it to change as i don't have a mouse , is there anyway i can resolve the issue?

  • @19guy92 same here have u found out?

  • You can always use your magic mouse upside down

  • When you think about it, the inverted scrolling does make sense. That is, unless you're using a standard mouse or Magic Mouse. But, if you're using the Magic Trackpad, that actually would be more natural because when you're scrolling down, the content on the page goes up, and vice versa.

  • Дыбил редкий

  • Unfortunately, this fix also change the LEFT and RIGHT gestures making it also very confusing.... I wished that only changed the up and down gestures, and not messing the LEFT and RIGHT.

  • @toraliens That's the dumbest thing I ever read. OSX is not a first person shooter.

  • @djcondra Maybe You didn't understood the issue here, the old way of scrolling up and down is better for sure for desktops and notebooks, and when you fix it as describe by @lockergnome also inverts the Left and Right, just try to switch apps using you trackpad with natural mode off, and you will see what I meant! I'm not talking about games, for games I have PS3, Xbox360, Wii e etc... :P

  • @toraliens The choice in LION is basically "move the frame" or "move the content".

What you propose is like inverted helicopter controls. (up is frame up, left is frame right) - this is neither iPhone like or "classic", but just confusing

FWIW, The reason iPhone-like controls don't work on desktops is not only the fact that we are not physically touching the screen, but more importantly, because we are using a CURSOR for most of our controls. "Natural control" should really be OFF BY DEFAULT

  • @djcondra Probably you do not have the magic mouse or magic trackpad where this functions really shines, I totally agree that should be off by default, but I disagree the behavior of changing the LEFT and RIGHT whenever the Natural control is off. If you do a swipe Left or right with 3 fingers on trackpad ou 2 fingers in the magic mouse to change the apps with Natural Control OFF it will be also TOTALLY INVERTED !!!

  • @toraliens yea, that messed up my spaces and previous page gestures so i just set it to inverted anyway

  • uhhh..... i thought this problem was solved in lion beta 1 when inverted scrolling was the default and developers were confused and pissed until they looked in their system preferences. Are that many people not aware that there is a fix? Oh well, but your video will help them Chris

  • What was that MySpace incidient few years back?

  • If it's a touch screen, it's should be inverted, the way it is. If it's like a mouse scroll, it should be the direction of your finger

  • I think so

  • Chris is still making these videos? lol

  • now my three fingers swipe feels inverted

  • how stupid can you get, apple are going over the top here.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

  • i suppose when you think about it, that is how it should be, doesn't make it right though XD

  • Just get on with it !!!!!

  • I like it. They made it like iOS. Stop complaining.

  • @ThisIsBillyH It's a desktop .. not a portable device, people have reason to be complaining. Next you'll be saying it's good that they removed keyboards and made the monitors all 9 inches?

    Moron.

  • @ThisIsBillyH Yeah no one gives a shit if you like it.

  • @MrFreeStufff If you're not going to say something nice, then don't say anything at all.

  • @ThisIsBillyH I like it. Stop complaining.

  • @MrFreeStufff I'm not complaining.

  • I like the inverted feature, but I play all my shooter games inverted. It feels like I am directly touching the web browser when it is inverted like on an iPad.

  • hahaha!! thats so freacking dumb!! thats apple?? WOW!! I dont own one so i never seen this before hahaha!! now i reaaly dont want an apple!!

  • Thanks you saved me some time looking thumbs up ^^

  • @VeoPress It's such a simple click box toggle.

  • @VeoPress WHAA?! She didn't even spend the time to ask about it? All it takes it a bit of searching on google. Heck, even the system preferences have it right there in trackpad. Will she buy it again? That's an absurd thing to return your computer over. She could have even asked the sales reps at the store. Did she reluctantly switch to mac and searched for an excuse to return it, and this was the first thing?

  • FIXED IT!

    I love you Chris!!

    :)

My whole family refused to use our family iMac until this was fixed !

  • I actually like it, when using trackpad :) Sucks with mouse.

  • Thank you! I fixed this first thing, it was so annoying. Unneeded change.

  • Comment removed

  • don't use Mac's but I liked the vid so that more people might see how to fix this crucial design flaw.

  • Bro thanks I locked and locked in the mouse preference and I didnt see it, maybe because. Scroll direction natural ' checked " has the oposite meaning..... cant wait for OS5 then lion would be more useful,.... I hope

  • what happened to the myspace incident with your dog?

  • thank soo much

  • are you in your star trek waiting room or your porn room?

  • Thanks guy guy guy guy guy

  • Thumbs up if you scrolled with ur mouse on this page while watching the vid! Lol

  • I love the new scroll direction. I got used to it after less then two days. Although it was driving me crazy sitting in front of my parents windows 7 PC where the scroll direction is obviously like ever before.

  • Thank you :-)

  • It's all apart of Steve Job's ultimate plan! There is nothing wrong

  • thank you sir, i was going crazy for a sec.

  • Thank you i hate the other scroll

  • Hi I have a windows laptop for about 6 months and I have had to send to be repared twice. What would you recommend

  • @wiimiifan2010 You need to be more specific.

  • @Pikey1517

It had to be sent away the first time because the hard drive broke and the second time the charger stopped charging the laptop

  • @wiimiifan2010 So you are looking to purchase a new one? Sorry i am not quite sure what you are asking :)

  • Wicket should be in more of your videos

  • Using an early 2008 white macbook. There is absolutely no option to return the scrolling back to normal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am soooooo upset about this. Hopefully the dev community can make a fix for this!

  • @randomtechdude Found myself a fix lol. Even though there is no option there, if you throw on a usb mouse of some sort, the option then shows up under the mouse settings as you showed here, and the old macbook trackpad will follow those settings. Surprising that they never realized this, they really should put in these options for older non touchpad macbooks.

  • Thank you! this was driving me crazy!

  • Thank you Chris

  • Wicket for President! :D

  • shave

  • that Dog <3

  • Go to system preferences -> Trackpad -> Uncheck "Scroll Direction". Thanks for a solution. It annoyed me ... I hate it very much indeed.

  • Comment removed

  • thumbs up if your the 311th viewer! :)

  • What da ... I am confused.

  • Wicket forever!!!

  • Thank You!!!!!!!!

  • What was the Myspace incident?

  • Yeah, it annoyed me. I hate the new gestures to.

  • so if I upgrade to lion will I still have all my same applications and documents?

  • "Thumbs up if your the 302 viewer"

Man, I am really starting to get sick of that comment...

  • where is ur other dog, it age catch up with it?

  • I don't see the use of this for me lol I invert controls for console games but that's because I played lots of flight sim games so airplane style works for me in FPS style games

  • How much does it costs with tax? i have $30.43 on my account yet it says i don't have enough money!

  • hi chris , lion fixed my battery draining problem (caused by using parallels) before the update my battery life was 2 hours now its now its 5 hours , thanx for your amazing videos keep it up .

  • This does make sense, in theory, although it does work on the iPad, this is because it feels like you move the contents on the screen as apposed to moving contents with the mouse. I would get frustrated with this as well, good to know that Apple lets you change it back though.

  • Chris do a video about lion Internet recovery

  • I noticed you can't change the name of folders in the launchpad

  • so, apple have given us a completely useless new setting... = /

maybe they are running out ideas?

  • THANK YOU CHRIS!!!!!!!

  • If you're going to add this "feature" or change it, at least have a first time start-up tutorial (doesn't need to be big, thats what she said) like things such as games do e.g. Call of Duty, it asks if you want to invert the aiming an such.

  • Please stop bumping Chris.

  • The issue with the scrolling is that EVERY other Desktop OS uses normal scrolling. So if I were my grandma migrating from Windows to Mac OS X Lion, I would be confused as anything.

  • settings, mouse, uncheck scrolling...how hard is that???

  • That sounds like a really strange feature to have. You move your finger up to scroll down on an iPad because the page actually moves with your finger, like a sheet of paper, but you don't get that same effect if you're not using a touch screen.

  • The backlit keyboard stays illuminated even with the preference unchecked. Hopefully this will be fixed soon.

  • nice beard, that's how real men look

  • This drove me nuts too. Didn't take long for me to find the fix, but much happier now.

  • I like how you used your Google+ page in the demo just to jab at the people who don't have it... Like me.. Haha just kidding. Thanks for this video Chris, I haven't finished my Lion download yet but I would have been lost without this.

  • Yeah, it was a bit of a pain till I found that setting.

  • I've already gotten used to the inverted scrolling. Been using the betas and GM.

Can't go back to the way it used to be now.

  • Comment removed

  • argh!! I hate the new YouTube player, every time i want to pause or play the video I almost press the Like button

(although it wouldn't be wrong at any of Chris Prillo's videos . . . )

  • you know your not the only geek in the world you know in fact I bet there are things out there you don't know that I know. anyway you could of said up means down and down means up lol!

  • This reminded me of:

-You have something on this cheek.

    -Where, here?

    (George Carlin)

  • we want more lion videos! ! ! :D

  • does anyone else have the a problem where ichat quits whenever you use the camera?

  • that drove me nuts when i first installed lion. turned it off straight away :)

  • @dimbo1307 You'll get used to it. Don't quit so quickly. If you have an iOS device you do the inverted scrolling. So keep it all the same and try and get used to doing the same on your mac.

  • it took me about 5 seconds to fix it.

  • You look like a lumberjack.

  • Thanks bro!

  • @lockergnome I love when you got your dogs on your videos.

  • Well, you COULD invert it if you really are THAT used to it, but coming from a person that has used the same MacBook for 3 and a half years, after a day or so of use with it on the natural setting it becomes just fine to have it inverted. It seems much more natural to have it this way compared to the old way if you ever end up going back to Snow Leopard.

  • Currently downloading Lion :-)

  • I've been using lion for months. I like the scroll direction the way it is.

  • What the hell was Appke thinking when they decided to invert it..

  • @Rabolisk To make it more like iOS, the scrolling on iOS is inverted but it feels right to scroll up and for the page to go down

  • scrolling? are you serious apple? that's more of an update and shouldn't be included in a new OS

  • Comment removed

  • @Username42100 LOL. It needs at least a core 2 duo chip and at least 4 gigs for ram for smooth flowing on the os. You will not get lion on your iBook. Try getting a refurbished macbook

  • Comment removed

  • @Username42100 than my netbook

  • @Username42100 200???????? what are you trying to buy?? If you don't have snow leopard then go to a apple store and they will do that without you buying snow leopard. And I agree it is quite worth it. You just have to have the right hardware.
