Most file servers don't allow multiple connections (which is how IDM downloads its files so fast) and most others restrict the bandwidth you can get with multiple connections. But some sites don't have any restrictions on download managers like IDM and IDM can mean the difference between 80 kb/s and 450 kb/s (which is more than a 500% increase).
