It is ironic that Steve Jobs now gets all the credit for ideas that were developed and, hear this, implemented, between 1987 and 1994 by former CEO Sculley and went bad because the hardware was not powerful enough and the market did not understand the vision, in most part thanks to the usual capricious media coverage which first hypes and then destroys anything even remotely defective.
@acintoli Wasn't enough to keep the company from going bankrupt was it? That's the difference, it doesn't matter how many good ideas you have if you can't make them work. Steve Jobs has slowly brought back a lot of ideas he killed upon returning to Apple because now the time is right and Apple has the strength to see such ideas through. So what if Sculley thought of some of these things first? He didn't have what it took to make them work. Jobs does.
@acintoli When Steve Jobs was kicked out, John Sculley did not know how to proceed forward. Instead he just continued implementing Steve's ideas and this is what he came up with.
@Anavengertg It was Scully to oust Jobs, because Jobs' vision was bringing the company to a dangerous downward spiral. Therefore he must have known what he was doing. There is a general tendency today to turn fiction into facts, but fortunately most facts of those times are documented.
@acintoli Lol scully did fine bringing the company down by himself. He did not need Jobs. Todays facts are well documented about Apple owning the consumer electronics market. You know who runs Apple? Steve Jobs.
@Anavengertg This is a typically American attitude, proven by previous history, about the definition of inventor: for the Americans, an inventor is not someone who actually invented something, the inventor is the one who makes the invention successful commercially, even at the cost of stealing it from the original inventor. This attitude will never change.
Your comment makes no sense. Apple hasn't made their own Operating Systems in house since roughly 2002 when 9.x was killed off. Apple uses a cheap, hacked up, incomplete version of BSD Unix with their GUI layered over top. Apple is a hollow gray colored hulk of what it use to be.
Then...
68k, or PowerPC hardware, custom hardware (ADB, etc.), custom OS.
Now...
Common x86 PC hardware, standard hardware, 3rd party OS.
Even though it was posted here in mid-September 2009, John Sculley is still head of Apple in this video! This means that this is older than Methuselah :)
John Sculley was a great president! And Apple Computer was really amazing and innovative. I miss that Apple Computer.

@acintoli Apple isn't known for inventing stuff. They're known for making things that work mind bogglingly well. Courtesy of Steve Jobs of course.

Apple's are nothing more than fancy PC clones. :(

@Outlander11 Your comment makes no sense. The Mac OS rarely crashes and is a pleasure to use after working with Windows for so long.

@Outlander11 No you are wrong. Apple's current OS comes from Steve Jobs company NeXT.
