A lot of times now when I'm walking and there is a girl thats going in the same direction as me, I'll try and cross the street or something or pass them so they don't think I'm following them, and get scared or something. One time on my commute to school I going the same way a this woman from the train station at my house to the one by my school and some of the walk to school from the train and she thought i was following her because she kept glancing back at me. What should have i done?
You're definitely an intelligent woman. I'm a guy, and we have our own issues of personal safety, I can't imagine what girls go through. But for me, I'm often traveling on my own and for starters, I like to employ eye contact. Wherever you are, be aware of your surroundings, know who is around you, quickly identify if there is anyone you should be wary of. Look confident, be confident. Definitely get some mace, but save it for if and when you 100% know you're in danger.

Well, I am a guy, but I would also like to add on couple more things that you should do if you don't feel safe. Like in the alley, if you don't feel safe: talk to someone on the phone and give the location of where you are at just in case, if you can't do that, then open up your phone, punch in 911 and hold finger on a dial button. If you don't feel safe in the alley, run and get to a place of where you feel safe. If someone is after you for real, scream at the top of your lungs.
