  • We saw marillion at wembley arena in 87 and he came off stage whilst singing this, walked down an aisle and ended up about 5 inches from me and our group as he sang... it was so awesome and a moment i will never forget

  • @falangatang I was there too! Bloody awesome! La Gazza Landra and Slainthe Mahathe blew me away!!!!!! Legendary!!!!

  • Milton Keynes was the Gig to be at, Marillion/FISH Awesome

  • Why in the H..L can I only press "Like" once?

  • Great song ! I like Marillion and Fish, but Pete Trewavas is amazing bass player, one of the best.

  • Ce type a raté une grande carrière de ...bucheron!!!

  • Sir Fish, que devenez-vous?Petit acteur de second role dans des petites séries policières British à 2 balles ?

  • ¡Que banda dios mio!

  • Absolute genius, Marillion means nothing to me now without him, I loved Marillion but i am a bigger fan of Fish!!!

    Warm!!

    Wet!! Circles!!

  • What's that furry woodland critter he's got around his neck? Does he think he's a barbarian?

  • @aBerlin1945 He is.

  • @aBerlin1945 Apparently he is a gent. Its the rest of Scotland are all barbarians

  • coool! ich war dort! 1989 - extrem marillion fan, magnum war auch super an dem tag...well don´t follow the band since the fragile soul FISH is gone - a great personality - one of my three top concerts alltimes!!!

  • The best guitarists of all times are Steve Hackett, Steve Howe, Steve Hillage and Steve Rothery. All Steve's and all English and roughly the same age

  • @MrAugustus88 We use to joke about that.

  • @MrAugustus88 - you forgot another steve:

    Mr. Steve Lukather!

  • @OttoHandle yes but hes american and light years ahead of the others mentioned

  • oui tjrs le top a ecouter mais l apres fish n est pas si bien il manque quelque chose

  • Go Fish!

  • Wonderful

  • 00:00 - dark night and Marillion - might it be sth better?;)

  • poetry! :o)

  • Where was this video originally shot? I think I recognise the place as Loreley in Germany. I think I have been there as well (but unfortunately not at this concert though)

  • @Dennismeurders You're right. It's from the live album Live from Loreley.

  • It makes my heart bleed when bands get the blend just right then personalities and ego's / addictions etc go and spoil it all leading to a parting of company, leaving the band a shadow of its former self and the soloist struggling to reach previous heights! Marillion & Fish... pure class.... they had it all...

  • Pour moi c est l un de leur meilleure morceau

  • I will never tire of listening to such amazing poetry this is just an passionate song

  • What a fabulous song full of originality and linguistic intelligence; attributes so conspicously absent in the narcissistic and forgetable quality of so much pop music today.

  • yeah...Ill b damn....

  • Best love song ever... period.

  • I bought "Clutching at straws" as vinyl LP. I have listened so many times this excellent and magic concept album that the dish became soon unusable.

  • i have listened to Marillion for over 20 years its class

  • I was only a child in Fish´era and I loved Marillion with Fish

Now I am a adult person, and I still love Marillion with Fish ♥

  • This guys one of the best.

  • Wow... I've always wondered how sweaty that jacket ended up!!!!

  • Shit!!! Why didn't I go see them perform my favorite album in college?!! Did Marillion perform on the east coast in '87 or just in L.A.???

  • ahhh Fish is Marillion<<< what a voice ( bad fashion sense though even for the Eighties) poor bugger went bald early, but love him .

  • WTF is Fish wearing the big lanky TOILET POTTER

  • Simply one of the best songs EVAH! I never tire of hearing it.

  • does music get any better than this.......simply stunningsong and performance. That said........Marillion are still going and are simply fantastic - and thats no betrayal of Fish!!

  • Fish was (is) the ultimate modern day poet. Together with Steve R and the band they were music genius. They were different after Fish departed, still good, but different.

  • Loreley concert

    awesome!

  • Like a mother's kiss on your first broken heart... a warm wet circle...... Oh, and the endless broken hearts..... She'll realize what she came back for in a warm wet circle..... Women never cease to break our hearts....

  • great song!great band!

  • john edwards laighstonehall hamlton or laysinhaw is we know it aye yer maw s name is jean gee me a shout cos you got me into these guys or you mind mind me as that psycho way the ginger nut from 14 Anywhore you know who we both are WiL
  • he is wearing his psudo silk komono

  • @Wildchild880 YES....

  • @Wildchild880 his pseudo silk"machin-truc" mais really trop fun en tout cas! ils iront loin ces p'tits jeunes! trop cool trop chouette groupe des années 80! Beaucoup mieux que Genesis !!!

  • Marillion was one of the greatest groups of the 80's (and therefore one of the greatest of all times). Fish is a genious, but... what on hell was he wearing in this video?

  • I was around 14 when I first discoved Marillion.....I used to listen to Fugazi and Script for a Jester's tear on my headphones in bed late at night - usually so late I was falling asleep in school - but their music was just so powerful, poetic and beautiful it was perfect for that time of my life, and still love it now.....bittersweet memories.

  • MAn that exactly what i did too !! So many memories with marillion,

  • quote "their music was just so powerful, poetic and beautiful"

It still is now dude. Try Ocean Cloud or Neverland! :-)

  • Hogarth is crap and now Marillion is bland

  • and you're a twat??

If I wasn't too busy fucking your mum I'd give you a slap!

    Douche..

  • Marillions lyrics are amazing. I love watching live video, You can feel and see his intensity. WOW!

  • Brilliant costume there Fish.

  • yeah we all cry..

  • This Marillion are and will be the BEST i did start listen to him when i was 17 years old and i will never forget this time :) PS. i dont care if he was drinking or not, he ROCKS :)

  • At age 42, this song echoes, along with Sugar Mice, the pain of my alcholism, divorce and the separation from my young children.... What was a cool album in 1987, resonates oh so true in 2009.....

  • could not agree with you more , my fav band of all time , i like you first listened to them at 17 , 20 yrs later i still love them !!!!

  • this song makes me feel 18 again i just want to cry cos i was heartbroken when they split buetiful music

  • this song is very good,i think.

  • u prat

  • This song and Cinderella search started my love of Marillion. This song reminds me of being 18 and heartbroken and is one of the few songs that can actualy make me cry. It's so beautiful.

  • Damn, that's a dead animal

  • Marillion and Pink Floyd together would be great.

  • 13th star love that song

  • The wail of the guitar just amplifies the sadness of this song. Unfortunately, I did not see Fish... went to the show at the Chestnut Caberet in Philly in '92.

  • fish was awesome. much same as ac/dc with bon scott. it gels or not, followed fish since but never hit the heights as he did. marillion then was the soundtrack of my youth.

  • At the bottom of my alchoholism, this song bleeds my emotions....

  • I agree. Hope to buy Fish a beer this month, in Haarlem Holland. It will spell fulfillment.

  • r u mad fish is a reformed alcoholic one drink could send him over the edge

  • I love this song

  • you don't like eskimos?

  • if you look closer, you're wearing an animal skin as well.

  • ..."like your mother's kiss on your first broken heart.... a warm wet circle..." pure poetry.

  • My FAVORITE Marillion album.... So sadly, the intense alcoholic them of this song reflects my life to a 'T'. Thank you, Fish, for putting words to my pain and suffering....

  • Same here. This album completely explains me at the time of this release..I thought I was the only one .....

  • I think Fish's best lyrics ever!!

    Great song, brilliant lyrics

  • @harrybrandy brilliant song. if only you were in Edinburgh you would understand. Its is really how he describes the album.. it is what it is at the time of the album. I was 18 at the time and can remember exactly how it was. I am just outside Edinburgh.

  • @harrybrandy : I cannot really choose between this and Sugar Mice!

  • Live at Lorelei, Germany. Legendary.

  • Marillion rules!!! (with Fish)

  • Marillion Rules (with h) more..

  • O.o

I'd say Marillion rules! With both FISH and H... Neither is better, they are different.

  • Marillion is just an ounce of the success it has had in the past with H. at the helm. H. sucks, everyone knows the greatest era was with fish.

  • Well... Neither Fish nor Marillion are what they used to be 20 or 25 years ago. I'll say neither are up to the standard they were in 1987. But that's life. Life goes on, and Fish hasn't been a part of Marillion for over 20 years.

But Clutching at Straws was a great album. Their best, in my opinion.

  • marillion kan aldri sammenlignes med genesis..10 ganger mer melodiøst..

    favorittene er.

    Grendel,Chelsea monday,warm wet og script

  • S-T-U-P-E-N-D-O

  • Lorelei gig !!!

Very nice video and songs !!!

  • fuckin great song!

marillion a light for my way!

    love them!

  • True genius- not when it comes to choice of clothing though :)

Looks like he is wearing an animal.

    Nobody's perfect.

Their music and lyrics are beautiful.

  • Sayy, thanks so much for posting this. Brought back great memories, and this is definitely one of my favourite albums. Lost this album though. Thank god for eBay huh?

  • He´s a great singer and the Marillion´s albums and his solo albums are all excellent...but...why he always dressed like that?? Seriously, i don´t know what he was thinking. I hope not to offend anybody

  • Let me say first I love Fish with Marillion. But the costumes ,the makeup was all inspired by Peter Gabriel. Fish's audition for Marillion was singing along with an early genesis album. They tried to pattern thenselves after genesis and why not? Gabriel wore makeup Fish wore make up, Gabriel wore a fox head Fish wears that fox type thing around his neck. I don't think they ended up sounding much like Genesis, they ended up sounding like themselves. I love both bands.

  • fish isnt gay he has a wife and a daughter

  • Great to see this on here

I love the Clutching at Straws album

  • Is Fish still alive?

  • Of course he is. He still makes great songs.

  • If you wanna get back to grips with fish these are the things you should try:

    Boullibase

    scattering crows

    Return to childhood DVD

    Vigil

These may bring you up to speed

  • there's nothing wrong with his clothes... it's his style as well as his voice that make Fish so unique... it's what makes him who he is. and he is an amazing artist...

  • FISH IS NOT GAY! I think...

  • FISH IS NOT GAY! he has a daughter

  • cerchi umidi,occhi asciutti.

il caldo che sale, i ricordi che nuotano in un pò di alcool................

    Agosto 1991.

  • What in the name of Christ has he got on?

  • I think it's meant to distract from the receding hairline. Whatever it is, it's dead animal and that's not cool. Fish, however, is WAYYYYYY talented.

  • great!great!great!

  • you've got to be kidding Fish is 1 great hunk of manhood

  • I´m on your side, FISH RULES!

  • how can you say hes gay simply because of the clothes he wears?i take it you havent seen his model wife then.even if he was gay the guy is a genius.

  • He's not gay, I went to see them on friday and we saw him walking through Norwich with his arm around a woman...

  • yah i wouldn't think so judging by the song kayleigh as well.

    great voice !

  • Fish's Marillion sound as powerful now as they did back then. Great Band.

  • God his voice was so sweet back then...I still love it even if it has been ravaged by tobacco & booze. What a poet!

  • What did Fish mean by "another take" at the start of this video?

  • In the 80's there were tons of killer music fests like this...where the hell did they go?!

I miss those days, not the clothes though!! Yuk!

  • Amen brother. Those were the days for sure...I'd take it all back, crummy clothes, and all, in a New York minute.

  • the Loreley Festival started back up again a few years ago and Fish has performed there a few times. It's getting bigger and bigger every year, check it out if you can.

  • nigletgook: Fish was always very open about his and the bands' influences: Early Genesis and Pink Floyd being the main ones. I love Marillion from the Fish days, not such a big fan since the change-up... anyways, we have to honor where inspiration comes from... just an "fyi".

  • Yemen is full of terrorists.

  • this sounds like genisis. if i hear that comment again i'm gonna shoot some one.!!!!!! I like Marilllion, I hate Genisis!!!!

  • What are you talikng about, the whole concept of marrillion was based on early genesis.Fish has always talkes about how he tried to emulate the lyrics music style sound everything.

  • You're right, I don't know why saying so gets people pissed. It's even printed on the liner notes on one of the Fish era CD remasters that fish' audition for Marillion was singing along with an early Genesis album. There's no shame in emulating Genesis, their early stuff is friggen epic.

  • I was ther - old time - good time !!!

  • Świetne, wyjątkowe...

  • As a big Marillion-fan I'm very gratefull to Fish for producing such great lyrics.

    Pure poetry.

  • long time marillion fan. Loved what Fish did, but Hogarth has done a great job, allowing the others to continue the music they wanted to pursue and even covering Fish's vocal pieces in a faithful manner to the spirit of the original, while putting hsi own soul into them. A great band. period... :)

  • ive got a very small willy

  • aha aha aha aha

  • Semplicemente un tour meraviglioso...!!! Io c'ero a Roma al teatro Olimpico...Fantastico!!

  • "Like your mother's kiss on your first broken heart". Fish could write lyrics like none other in the 80's. Make skin tingles everytime I hear this masterpiece.

  • Majestic, exquisite but then oh, that mullet and ego too...it's flawed genius and I love it!

  • Marillion was NOTHING before Fish became a member. When Fish quit, Marillion disappeared! Very good band though! Great song...

  • there still going you know?

  • MARILLION was a good band but FISH made the difference.

    I like this song

  • that guy has a great mullet/balding look

    what a douche!

  • Wow, not much to say. Have the VHS of this concert but been a while since I've watched it. Just pure mastery of their craft. While the Hogarth era has produced some darn good music, this is just on a completely different level. Fish was just larger than life.

  • Amazing concert!

  • Mint song.....amazing

I sort of missed the fish/marillion era, being born in 94...and i think its a shame that most of the younger generation doesnt listen to this anymore.

  • majestic magnificence

  • Can anyone tell me what 'warm wet circles' symbolises / means? I love the song, yet don't really get it.

  • Warm wet circle is the imprint a beer glass leaves on table.Comforting if you are having beer at pub with good company sheltering from horrors of the world.

Other warm wet circles (some less pleasant!) mentioned during song. Climax of song is one of these superb Marillion moments.

  • Thanks, I see. I reread the lyrics. I shouldn't be asking what it means. I was actually trying to grasp the idea behind the song. I guess it describes a melancholical feeling...

  • Perhaps A drink left on a napkin on a bar. The concept here is about booze abuse after all. Or how about the space between the legs... well I think you know.

  • I was there too! ;-)

    What a great concert!

  • fish committed an artistic suicide and a homicide at once leaving marillion, the both careers have gone into oblivion

  • All ego!!

  • I get a deja-vu!

  • fish is forming a new band called 'japshung' i cant wait to hear their new stuff

  • fish the best

  • used 2 marillin 20yrs ago

  • Marillion always gets me on a good mood!

  • I dont care what anyone says Marillion ROCKS!!

  • yemen had so many bad bands playing

    all sucked hard

  • omg !! yemen is the worst i have ever heard!!!!!

  • I agree R.E.M are good but there is bugger all in Yemen, you have no taste so boil your head.

  • HAHA Yemen? Not many people heard of Yemen it mays well not be there, and for the greatest country in the world. I admire your enthusiasm but it is far from best. If you dont have a good word to say about a band less your lip, shut up and watch something you do like

  • I saw the Band in East Germany before the wall broke down. It was great and the band is great.

  • Marillion rules. Sorry that they divorced Fish.

  • How come the music is so good and the videos so plainly ridiculous

  • I heard the Yemen music industry is full of faggots. And all your women look like stone cold dudes. Marillion rocks. USA #1. Go back to your corner and beat off. The best part of you ran down your moms chin.

  • Yemen what? Is that a Marillion cover band?
