  • Excellent man! Thank you so much. Now I can finally do some advanced cutting in PS :)

  • Very cool tutorial! I didn't think you talked all that much. No worries =)

  • Not a very concise tutorial, but very detailed explanation. Good job.

  • This is a good tutorial, but only useful when your background is a complete different colour to the object you Refine, for example if your item to be Refined is black, and the backgroun is a dark blue 90% of the time it can't find the Edge, though i DID learn about Refine in thsi Tutorial :P

  • this is a very good tutorial. Really. ..On "HOW TO ANNOY VIEWERS BY TALKING TOO MUCH USING PHOTOSHOP CS5."

  • OMFG get to the point all ready!

  • why dont u just use the burn tool to get rid of whites???

  • One of the most useful videos I've seen so far on the subject of "fine selections"....it would have been even more amazing if you completed the selection and showed the bit about the hooves of the horse...but hey....the most important part, that of the fine hair, worked amazingly....thanks a ton....!!!

  • Great tutorial very helpful thankyou. Personally the talking helped me understand the techniques he was showing me!

  • You could have done this whole tutorial in half the time with cutting out half the unnecessary talking.

  • talk to much just get to it

  • how do you do this in Elements?

  • so..um...what about the legs?

  • @thickindathighs9 Including the legs is the easy part (unlike selecting fine bits like hair). You could just *add* the legs to the selection before the reversing step (at 5:50).

There are many ways to do that, but I like to switch to mask mode, and use the brush to paint the areas I want to add.

    . .

When you switch back out of mask mode, the legs will be part of the selection. :)

  • @4thel0ve thanks so much :-)!!!!!!

  • @4thel0ve thanks so much :-)!!!!!!

  • @4thel0ve thanks so much :-)!!!!!!

  • Thanks :D

  • i don't seem to have the same refine edge box that pops up on yours. Do I need to update my CS5 somehow?

  • starts at 2:50

  • The douchebag moves so fucking slow, it takes him 2 minutes to move from selecting his image to refine edge, because he has to tell a story. Holy fuck.

  • do you think he noticed the dog has no legs

  • i love you god bless

  • Next time select the drop down tab next to the view & change your overlay color. This should make it easier to see what your doing. BTW nice tutorial

  • At about 5:40 into the video, instead of converting (command I) or reversing to the background, why not add the horse's feet to the existing marching ants (then the entire horse would have marching ants all around it's body and then you could put it on a separate layer, add a new background and I think it would have made for a better presentation.

Please let me know what you think of my idea.

    JAW

  • you could have showed a lot more if you had not kept telling us how great photoshop is. We know how fabulous PS is, but at least i got to learn how to select an image. I wanted to see how you put the hooves back tho. Good video.

  • @dillinger9999 what you could do for that is duplicate the origional again, then erase everything else except what you lost and put that layer above the one thats been refined

  • @minigooshey thank you

  • Great Job, thx from Kosovo

  • sorry what !?

  • pretty informative...layer mask is also good to use in conjuction with this and then go to refine mask and draw around object for fine hairs and stuff....I just need to learn how to make it less glowy looking...

  • many thanks

  • you explained it very well, thankz

  • You talk entirely TOO MUCH!!!

  • @alvingill87 Yeah. In retrospect, I'm thinking that I had a little too much coffee that morning. ;-)

  • @SharpPixelDesigns thanks for the tutorial! i don't think you talk too much lol you made it easy to follow along so thanks.

  • Please help me. This method does not help with removing very complex background like plants, And especially when the background colour is the same as the object you are trying to select.

  • Hmm, good intro ... to how it doesn't really work very well. And if that horse had had white hair in its tail?

  • Stupid Bastard!

  • so bragful

  • Ha, I have that exact image on my HDD.

  • lots of talking ... that's all. but easy introduction into refine edge technique, emotionally.

  • Comment removed

  • good stuff

  • @MrShoveitupyourass ok douchebag listen closely...this tutorial is obviously focused on the hair which is always the hardest thing to cutout...there are thousands of other tutorials for cutting out such as using the pen tool. If you don't know how to create duplicate layers and merge them together for a quality cut then obviously you are the "stupid bastard".

  • @MrShoveitupyourass As DybbukAtroxic said, it is more focused on isolating the hair strands, which is a very handy technique. As far as simply cutting out specific features that are a little less tedious than hair strands (such as a hoof), I would suggest a more basic query in the YouTube search. Thanks for watching!

  • @MrShoveitupyourass - try doing a google search for 'anger management' and 'arrested development'. You might learn something useful about yourself.

  • Yes! USAF! Is it a safe bet that you do work with AFN?

  • @kittyismydog USAF FTW. I am a freelance web designer right now, but I am hoping to join the USAF eventually. Thanks for watching! :-)

  • why my background is still not disappear when i clicked on refine edge??

  • @NisaLavigne93 Many times when that happens, it is because the selection is not close enough to the edge of the object you want to cut out. Also check to see if the layer is unlocked.

  • @NisaLavigne93 cn u tell me how i can get photoshop,,,this is any site or u have to downlaod or u have to buy it plzz telll me how u get this photosahop,,,how i can get photoshop
