This was excellent. The steps you laid out were simple and gave amazing results. I had hesitated do this because I thought it was going to be way to difficult. Hand coloring individual features such as jeans, sweaters and etc. helped me understand layers better. It was amazing to see how I could go back and tweak each layer. Thanks for taking the time to produce this. I look forward to seeing more.
@ncoutlander Simply put, this is probably the nicest comment anyone has ever left on any of my tutorials, articles or videos. You made my day ncoutlander...
@zeke431 you are welcome and thank you for your kind words. You did a great job! I know even though a lot of people may watch these tutorials, I noticed few take time to acknowledge the work that goes into making the video. I'm just glad you took the time to share your knowledge. I shared the video with my friends on G+ also, so maybe you will get some more looks and comments.
@ncoutlander I'm on G+ as well...you can look me up under Dodisdodat (site page) and my personal page under Marc Roberge...looking forward to future interactions. Cheers!
When I try and make the skin layer it comes out grey although I have it set to foreground and my skin color picked out and set. Do you have any idea what I am doing wrong? Thanks!
@Charmedfan2010 Your Image is probably in grayscale mode and needs to be in RGB mode. From the menu, Image>Mode and make sure RGB is selected. Let me know!
@zeke431 I got it. This tutorial is amazing, I just got gimp last night and have already colorized my first photo and it looks great. Thanks so much for this!
@Charmedfan2010 No problem...wish I had more time to keep doing these videos but I'm so busy these days just writing (for Dodisdodat) and a few other of my sites. Hopefully I'll get a bit of a break soon and have a chance to put out a few more. Cheers!
I've been using Gimp for quite a lot of time to adjust some basic things on my drawings. And i'm so very happy I finally found this tutorial because now i can give my pictures colors and that's just great! So thank you very much for uploading this.

Good Bye Gimp. It's been fun. I find a new life in Photoshop. (mainly cuz need it for school) (and I can get it for $200)
I will still get great practice with Gimp.
Thank for vid.
