I think this was an excellent idea. Now I'll have to read up on what happened. Yes, baby signing is all the rage. What really want is a program that picks up where the baby signing ends--preschool and elementary school kids should be signing too. There's nothing for them out there. I am hearing, by the way, and taking sign language myself, but my kids really want to, too.

Wonderful, expressive video, I'm so happy that Avbria shared her feelings. She is obviously deeply concerned about the issues linked to allowing deaf babies to sign. My question is - can I get references for the cited information about Sign Language helping the development of oral speech, rather than the traditional view that signing hinders speech development? I agree, why is that signing is now encouraged for hearing children but forbidden for deaf children.

I wonder how many of the parents who work at AG Bell actually use the Signing Time series with their hearing children, but then forbid it for the deaf children they work with, talk about HYPOCRISY!

You're so right! ALL babies sign as children, Deaf and hearing. The FIRST form of communication in ALL children is gestures and signs. Why do people thing Deaf babies will benefit from suppression of sign?
