Cool vid. Yeah, they were awful. My ex was in the National Guard and when they changed over to the MRE's the head cook gave us cases of the old C Rats. We were financially struggling. We got some of those ham and lima bean rations. They were WWII rations. In 1980 they were still edible, but awful. We ate them anyhow.
Also known as Ham and Mutherfu#@ers. The stuff in this video is like haute cuisine at a fine gourmet restaraunt compaired to the old C-Rat version. You couldn't feed that slop to a starving hog in the middle of the desert on a bet.
heh I find this funny in that my grandfather who was stationed in the UK during Korea. He told that he liked this ration the best. After he got out and married my Grandmother she would make a recipe similar to this and I actually liked it as well.
More canteen recipes would be thrilled to have more ideas sofas so good though. I have the trangia 25 an 27, BCB Crusader, army trangia's. But always prefer cooking with the us canteen than the rest and good meal ideas is always a wonderful thing.
This video is awesome on so many levels. First, I love the Truespec shirt. Excellent taste in clothing, they last forever.
I really enjoyed your video. I hope you do lots more. I get in as much trail time as I can with my son, and we often make our own MRE's. I would love to know how you feel about modern MRE's Vrs C Rations.
One trade off is that modern ones don't last as long, nor resist heat as well as a C ration.. they weight less though. Imagine a Modern C Ration. That would be cool.
I tried the canned ham and it is better. Also this time I used a handful of oyster crackers and spicier cheese sauce. I was hungry, so it seemed pretty good.
i tried the ham and lima beans with spam, and like you said, its average, then i tried it with a can of hormel smoked ham, and it gives it alot more flavor, it dosent look most appetizing, but it tastes better than it looks.
I good source for WW II rations is Repo-Rations online. I checked, they don't have Ham and Mu*her F***ers. Thanks for the tip on the wire attached to the cooker. Neat. Keep ut the Awsome videos.
My dad enlisted in the army a couple years after vietnam ended, i showed him this video and he cringed. lol You arent kiddin when you say vets wanna forget it
You were quite good to yourself, my friend. Ritz crackers are NOT those bland thick nasty crackers they sent in the c-rats that tasted like sweat and garlic. If you want to get the equivalent to that, look on some of the food storage companies, for cans of what are called "yukon biscuits". Those things made me gag even with peanut butter and hard liquor! LOL! Good show, professor!
My 88 year old uncle fought with the 84th Division (Rail Splitters)in the Battle of the Bulge, and tells everyone he loved K rations. Now, I've heard of exaggerated war stories, but how gullible does he think we are?
I love your videos, Professor! Thanks for posting them!

Acturally, unlike most others, i LOVE the cheese omelet MRE!.. its pretty great..

MRE is much better. That meal looks bad. My favorite MRE is Meatloaf and Mashed potatoes.

@huguenot67 Ks were probably better. They were much more of a small-meat-tin, crackers, fruit bar etc - 1 box 1 meal.
Not tinned wet rations.

I think that looks good and maybetter than an MRE
