  • Zooey Deschane can do better

  • i love how the crowd shuts up, to listen to this lovely song. you don't have to be jumping around and screaming to embrace music. its wonderful i find :)

best version of this song i herd in my opinion :)

  • go takamine :)

  • 'Follow you into the dark'-

  • well yeah narrow stairs all the songs were one take so they must be awesome live

  • I have a Takamine

  • Great video llumenera

  • I heard that on the studio version of this on "Plans", it was all done in one continuous take on a vocal microphone and there was very little editing done. I wish there were more artists as talented as Ben who stress a solid melody more than over-production of a song.

  • @HalfBillion really? is this the only song you have ever heard from Death cab? They are sick because of the unique production of their songs. But it's also amazing that he can make a sweet tune that is stripped.

  • i dont know how he keeps his rhythm when his sort of swaying dancing movement is soo out of time! haha brilliant song

  • Its funny but kind of hard to hear. At 9 seconds you can barely make out some guy making a comment: 'This guy is good."

Just the way he says it makes me think he never heard of the guy until he got there. Its always fun to experience those moments.

  • Does he fingerpick?

  • @stache500 Yep. A man of much talent :)

  • Ben is awesome. I like his little dance he does for all the songs, the turning side to side. This is an amazing song, the song title just sounds creepy by itself lol

  • ben could be playing a piece of junk and he'd sound amaning

  • ed moore the pipes are calling

  • This guy is so amazing!

    Well done man!

  • why do gibson acoustics sound so zingy? i went to get a new acoustic.. i have a crappy eleca and the gibson acoustics are like ziiiiiiiiiiing. perfect example in hey there delilah it sounds zingy. any suggestions for an acoustic that sounds good?

  • for acoustic guitars, I kinda like the epiphone acoustic models. nice crisp sound, and affordable too.

  • Look up Avalon guitars. Fantastic sound. Best guitars i've ever played. The hand-made ones.

  • This is relevant to this video how?

  • @lastlife11 i really like the sound of yamaha guitars. The one right above the starter level guitar (begins with f00.... followed with more numbers) is a great sounding guitar for its price. I went shopping with my friend for a new guitar and that guitar just had a really nice sound to it (tried guitars from $99-900) =D

  • i have two accoustic guitars, one is a takimine g series and i just got a taylor. the taylor is amaizing tone quality but extreamly pricey. if you can afford it thats what i recomend. if your on a lower budget the takimine sounds great for a gutar around its price range

  • @jitk1 I have a G and a D series. I really like the G. Green with green strings :D

  • @jitk1 I have a G and a D. The G's are cheaper but still sound great. The D was fairly pricey but worth it

  • @lastlife11 Takamine's are awesome. Great sound. And theyre badass.

  • @AwsmPntsAlchmst I have a Takamine, I rule.

  • I would be making a lot more noise if I were them.

  • i have same exact guitar

and can play that on guitar!

  • j-45...is a dream.

  • what??

  • you said you have the same guitar....its a J-45 gibson.

  • epiphone

    same design

    different company i geuss

  • epiphone makes all the same models as gibson... i.e. epiphone dot looks like a gibson 335 but the quality lacks

  • epiphone are just industrial mass products of gibson models.. and defenitly good instruments. sure, they are not as perfect as the originals.. but also much cheaper. similar to squier guitars (fender)

  • true, but there are some gibson guitars that epiphone doesnt make, and vice versa. i.e. epiphone made the coronet model, which was an original epiphone model. Also, gibson makes a model called the eye guitar, which epiphone never produced. but mainly, epiphone is owned by gibson, so they do produce most of the gibson models

  • thank you so much for informing us.

  • r u being sarcastic? asshole?

  • xd u mad

  • This is the best live version.

  • This man is completely amazing. ♥

  • Very nice live version. :-) His voice is great!

  • yes. Ben Gibbard.

  • is the singer from death cab the same singer for postal service?

  • noope . :|

  • yup.

  • yes

  • Yes.

    Ben Gibbard (:

  • yes

  • yupp

  • Yes

  • This is the only live version where nobody sings with him!

  • trolling?

  • agreed

  • My favorite song.

It's so beautiful and soothing! =D

listening to it makes me very calm. Perfect before going to bed!

  • i'd follow him :P

  • my fiance and i may make this our wedding song.

  • This dude and the singer of postal service, same dude????? no???

  • yes

  • yes, same person

  • Uhh.. no offence , but DUHH!

  • you are a fucking douche bag. I am not gay and but i am proud to call you an asshole

  • i hate it when assholes like yourself ruin a perfectly good video with this shit whatever the topic is

  • neither was your conception

  • What God are you praying to? I'm pretty sure God is all about love, not selective passion. You, however, need to get your cock straight.

  • Actually everyone knows that people like you _Think_ that it is so.

  • Amazing song *_*

  • why the fuck are people talking about gays and fags on this beautiful video and song? just appreciated the music

  • agreed makes no sense, go find a chat room

  • I am neither gay nor a 'fag lover'.

    You sir, however, are pathetic.

  • thats such an ignorant thing to say

  • You Bible Thumping, Cousin Humping Assfuck.

  • I really hope you're trolling.

  • possibly, but not the fun one.

  • Not the fun one at all.

  • from the way you say "stepdaddy" your probably like 9 years old

  • all haters like you go into my butt :/

  • and they'll be raping you

  • it isnt about you either :/

  • My name is steve and i proposed to my husband while this song played. he said yes. too bad there is a same-sex marriage ban in my midwestern state, i love ben gibbard.

  • thats sad, im sorry

i hope everything works out for you

    =]

  • its that the john lennon epiphone???!!!

  • i was watching him do this live about an hour and a half ago.

    amazing.

  • 2:21 fucking epic lol

  • a real man wears pink. haha love the song. he's one of the few people that sings really good live. (:

  • i get the chillzz

  • awesomeee song (:

  • so authentic.. i kinda like this better than the album version

  • best song ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • did he start off playing brand new colony then totally switched it up? haha

  • arghh.how the fuck does he play this?

he like strums and picks at the same time, its so hard to learn :(

  • no man. its not. well maybe it is.

  • ha,it really is :)

but then,i haven't had any guitar lessons,i'm just trying to teach myself.

  • Teaching yourself is hard! I did it, once you get so far you begin to learn a lot slower...depending on what you play. This song is hard to start off, but once you get it down, it's as easy as brushing your teeth.

Though, this was posted a month ago, so you've probably learned it already. =]

  • ha not exactly..still haven't got the strumming down but can do the picking on the first bit(very slowlyyyy, but whatever)..saying that i haven't practised for a while so probably forgotten.sigh.never mind.maybe i'm better off just listening to music,as opose to trying to play it xD

    thanks anyways :)

  • oh c'mon don't say that i was just a listener for a long time but for years i ve been dying to play guitar !! so one day not that long ago i picked it up and i even got this song down :D don't give up it just takes practice :)

  • ha aw,ok.will try again soon then.. will post on here if i ever manage to play it,and thanks :)

  • no don't give up. the strumming pattern is dd uu du - maybe you could learn from the 6 min 20 secs vid in rcarmel's channel - should get you back in the game! :) good luck

btw Great video of this song, love it!

  • ah nice one, cheers for the heads up,will check it out :)

  • This is a great song to learn to fingerpick to! Don't forget the precussive drag with the fingernail to give it the unique sound :)

  • this song is pretty easy.... but i guess if your new to fingerstyle it can be tricky

  • i could help you i know how to play it

  • aw thanks!but i've already tried like every tutorial on youtube and i still can't get it,i'm pretty rubbish (: hopefully getting lessons soon so maybe my teacher can show me.cheers anyways :D

  • use your thumb for bass notes and fingers to strum, just takes practice but not too bad once it clicks. pluck thumb flip fingers for strum....is the basic idea

  • ah ok,thanks for the tip!will try it sometime :)

  • <3333

    :D

  • what kind of guitar is he using?

  • I think it's a gibson J-45 modern classic. Those guitars are awesome but they come at a high price^^

  • what fret is capo on? 5th?

  • yes.

  • ur right sanchzzz modest mouse is the best

  • Hes a modern day Brian Wilson in my opinion...

  • This is great for a live recording at a gig. Ive been drowned out singing at football games. I like this Death Cab song. I had a go at I will Follow You Into The Dark myself. Maybe you would like to check it out. Hay :)

  • well his music is obviously not for everyone but you dont have to be an ass about it. personally i think that Ben Gibbard is the best songwriter of our generation, aside from Isaac Brock, and whether you like the music or not you can still have respect for him as an artist and a lyricist and recognize that he has more talent than a hell of a lot of the other, more popular groups of today.

  • best songwriter from our generation...? er

  • Isaac Brock and Ben Gibbard the best songwriters of this generation?

They're good, but you need to check out Sam Beam, or shit, Connor Oberst even.

Sam Beam is the best songwriter since Bob Dylan was in his prime, no question.

  • Conor oberst has some pretty deep shit for sure and Sam Beam is good too. but Isaac Brock definately surpasses all of them. There's really no comparison

  • Isaac gets a lot less awesome when you aren't a stoned teenager anymore.

He's still great, but his lyrics can't touch a song like Upward Over the Mountain or Trapeze Swinger.

  • no need to argue about a matter of opinion..

  • yeh man DANG RIGHT!! Iron & Wine (S.B.) is the most creative and meaningful lyrics out their man....very nice commnet ^_^ about him

  • ~my brother can play this like he wrote it.

    ~

    ~

    ~

~i've been to his concert twice... and are the only two ~concerts i have ever been to...

    ~

    ~

    ~check out my page!!!!

  • errm i love this song =P

  • Ben Gibbard is why i get out of bed.

  • lols bang COCK

  • he says COCK really loud when he says bangCOCK lol dam i love this guy he pwns mad hard

  • LMAO he does!

  • it does give me chills. ahh i love ben gibbard.

  • you can play this song without a capo using dm,f,Bb,c,a,and c bar and Bbm figure it out

  • im jealous of his strumming

  • It takes some practice but I got it down in a day or two. There's a good video on here that will teach you how. It should be one of the first when you search for something like "how to play I will follow you into the dark."

  • Hahaha, I only got it down last week. :)

  • This song gives me goosebumps every single time....

  • ben gibbard drinks more milk than all of you

maybe thats why hes so amazing.

  • IDIOTS u negatived the comment, nino was being sarcastic.

  • WTF are you talking about Faggot?!

  • Yeah he is by far one of the most original songwriters ive ever listened to. I dont know what the fuck he was talkng about. His rythmic sense is unbelievable. He brings stuff to the table that not many artists ever have. I love heavy metal and hard rock but to me even if you dont like this kind of music you have to appreciate it.

  • It's called sarcasm guys. I love Ben.

  • drink some milk

  • i like milk

  • me too...its great

  • you guys are kind of wierd... jk

  • yeah, I mean I love both bands,

but I think Death Cab is much better

  • I have nothing against death cab but as a postal service fan that band just feels like a waste of ben gibbard's time. but this song is pretty good.

  • with out death cab there would have been no postal service.... but i do respect your opinion...

  • Nope. Definitely not a waste of time. That's his band, dude. Postal Service is just a side project that he did to experiment with a different sound and different musician.

Death Cab, I think, is where all his most genius work is. Listen to "Brothers on a Hotel Bed." You'll understand.

  • He wont 'understand',

its not about understanding, its a matter of taste, and i like them both, but most Gibbard as

    a singer & songwriter. :)

  • I realize I got hate for that comment. what I meant was that before hearing this I had never heard any death cab. I only new that the other bands were in the way of new postal service album. but I really like there stuff now that I heard it. theyre very similar.

  • i just covered this song on acoustic too on my vid

    check it out :)

  • Ah man..never gonna forget this concert..great one I'm glad I was there for.

  • i have seen this live. it is beautiful.

  • Great sound and nice that the crowd quieted down and listened.

  • lol he looked a lil nervous at the end but still a great performance

  • I

    LOVE

    his

    voice

  • OMG!OMG!OMG!

    Ben Gibbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbard!!!!!!!!!!!

  • really really bad ass, great quality too. thanks.

  • Thanks for this! I'm really enjoying the tour!

I'm looking forward to the posts from 5/9 in PA!.... & onward.
