IMO it's a mental thing with animals. Bears have all of the advantages to kill a big cat but do they have the ferociousness? I guess the best way to put it.. would be a Cane Carso or Mastiff vs a Pit Bull. If a sow was protecting her cubs and a cougar was after it, that mountain lion would get crushed. I've seen videos of a grizzly defeating an entire wolf pack to protect a cub. There are easier meals that could be taken with little fight.

During that time , bears were the dominant land predator and they still are the biggest and most powerful today, pound for pound. Even so, cats still have a fighting chance in prides which can take down the biggest bears. Bears are at a disadvantage in that case.

Im think in the first place we arent argueing the chance of this happening in the wild, because even if they ran into each other.....somehow, they would probably back from each other. One attribute of predators is they pick thier fight especailly tigers who are ambush predators, sometimes they have to let an opportunity go because it wasn't good enough. So honestly if they happened to fight some how, the tiger would win, because it would ambush the bear or not attack at all.

This was a very small bear. Had this encounter been against a coastal brown bear, let me put it this way:
Tiger: Agility, 10mph faster, sharper claws, longer canines. Strike force: 400lbs. Bite force: 1000lbs. Hit rate: 5-10%.
Bear: Strength, incredible stamina, longer claws, protective fat, fur and muscle, size. Strike force: 1000lbs. Bite force: 1800lbs. Diet: 80-90% plants.
There are records of brown bears killing adult male tigers. There are none of tigers killing adult male brown bears.

IMO it's a mental thing with animals. Bears have all of the advantages to kill a big cat but do they have the ferociousness? I guess the best way to put it.. would be a Cane Carso or Mastiff vs a Pit Bull. They could surely do incredible damage to the put, but the pits ferocity will frighten them each time, they don't have that killer instinct the pits have. For the reason alone I can't see Bears defeating Lions. At some point they will retreat.

Not personally no, but through videos I have. I've also seen the same Cougars who run from wolves, Attack bears to protect their young, and then those same bears make Wolves retreat.
It's a endless circle.. Cougar runs from wolf, chases bear, then wolf runs from bear.
It's a temperament thing. animals aren't like us everything is instinctive with them. Some predators just aren't predators anymore when the game is even.

Tiger are more aggressive. Grizzly eat meat and vegetables and fruit. Tiger's a full time killer. Bear's hibernate, tiger's constantly hunt. Bear's are constantly shedding and gaining wait, depending on the season a bear could be very small and weak. Tiger's good to go all year round.

in that mountain lion vs grizzly video, the young bear was looking for an easy meal. The mountain lion was protecting it's cubs and hence had more motivation. If a sow was protecting her cubs and a cougar was after it, that mountain lion would get crushed. I've seen videos of a grizzly defeating an entire wolf pack to protect a cub. There are easier meals that could be taken with little fight.

It's not in a zoo, it is in the wild. The bear is an Asiatic black bear and this was filmed in Southern China, home to the aptly named South China Tiger. Black bears are lame compared to an Alaskan Grizzly. There are records of a Grizzly fighting a Lion in London zoo in the 1800's and the Grizzly crushed the Lion's skull in seconds. I want to see an Alaskan Grizzly fight a large, male Siberian Tiger.

They do in Asia. Probably an Asian Black Bear. I'd say he or she was pretty smart to run. If it were possible for a Tiger to encounter a Grizzly or Polar Bear, well that would be a different story. Of course they are extinct now, but I think a Saber Toothed Tiger would have been a decent match up for a Grizzly or Polar Bear. Only in the wild though. I hate staged animal fights as well.

it would hes just talking about the smallest grizzly bear, the yukon grizzly.. they can infact be just as big as a tiger though but sometimes even just be a mere 300 lbs due to lack of food availability.. but in general the overall weight of EVERY grizzly they average the MAX of a tiger, which would be 600 lbs.. alaskan grizzlys may reach 1400 lbs!! more than 2x the current max of a tiger..

Well now that I think about it, bears and cats have had a long history together after post ice age period. During that time , bears were the dominant land predator and they still are the biggest and most powerful today, pound for pound. Even so, cats still have a fighting chance in prides which can take down the biggest bears. Bears are at a disadvantage in that case.

that's not true i think most bear fans seriously overestimate how powerful a bear actually is.
and they seriously underestimate how powerful a lion and tiger both are... they aren't humans their bodiesare extreamly powerful. and they are also several times more agressive and intimidating than a bear. if a mountain cat can make a grizzly bear run away a lion or tiger won't have a problem with them, bears tend to be gentler. personally i think they are more likely to kill the bear.

Yes. Bengals are the most aggresive Tiger. A lot more aggresive than a Siberian. Also, as the breeding pool is larger than the Siberian, they have been getting physically larger in size over time.

Im think in the first place we arent argueing the chance of this happening in the wild, because even if they ran into each other.....somehow, they would probably back from each other. One attribute of predators is they pick thier fight especailly tigers who are ambush predators, sometimes they have to let an opportunity go because it wasn't good enough. So honestly if they happened to fight some how, the tiger would win, because it would ambush the bear or not attack at all.
