  • Trying to kill a fly with a hammer

  • @mopar92

I thought about it for a while man, i just don't know what you mean. Closest i can get, is 18 hp is over kill on that thing?

  • Hey Tom what would it take to get this 1256 beast romping again? I've been watching vids of it the last few days, and it looks fucking fun. I really wanna ride it.

  • @91CTD

hydrostastic driveshaft and drive pulley. ya erd meh? i think it didn't have spark the last few times we tried too

  • @tommartyn Yea I Ear ya. Sounds like work. Bodycount

  • you need to adjust the tire pressure or get wider tires. and with lower tire pressure you increase your grip and traction greatly

  • @goandy89

Yeah, those tires were kinda bald too. The only thing about the low pressure is, Sure you'll get way better traction, but these things are very narrow, and weight near 700 pounds. One of the main things you want to keep in mind, is you don't want them to flip over on you. So the harder the tires, the less likely they are to roll. Which i'm not too worried about it for myself, but other people ride these things too, and i don't want anyone getting crushed

  • hey guys.....i have a heavy duty Bolens 14xlh with dual wheels and heavy guage chains . You cant believe how much traction it gets !! Pretty cheap way to get max traction.

  • Sweet. It would probably be even better if you bolted a second set of wheels on the back. I've seen people do a dually setup like that on pulling mowers and it seems to make one hell of a difference. Might help you climb some of the hills without getting a running start.

  • @crazyfvck

Yeah man, i'm sure a dually setup would help alot. But what we always do is just put 12 inch rim atv tires on the stock tractor rims, and it works awesome. thats all you need really, just some really agressive tread. Running starts always help though :) gotta learn to work the momentum. Thats the fun thing with the tractors, you have to try to do stuff. Makes it more interesting

  • what state is this?

  • @nekbiodieselworks

    Why do you ask?

  • At first I wasnt going to watch this but i finally went bak to it and its a good thing i did cuz i am building a go kart (formally a craftsman rider) and i am using it for the same purpose. Awsome clip

  • @ManiacKillaClown

haha, nice man! Yeah, make sure you have alot of ground clearance with the go kart. One of the most important things.

  • @tommartyn

Yeah ik i got about a foot of clearance bro. its wicked in the mud

  • hydro starting to wine check the fluid

  • @benrobinson72

    The fluid level was good

  • @tommartyn ok just old then

  • I wonder how well my kohler 25 horsepower v twin would do at that

  • @uscgkid109

If its horizontal shaft, Then probably amazing :)

If its vertical shaft, it wouldn't have anyway of driving this beast :)

  • Off roading on a lawn tractor.... AWESOME

  • lol, the first time you went into the water you had white wheels at the rear, then came back with red ones

  • @ruunu3004

    haha, never noticed that before

  • that engine makes a good gokart engine

  • how many times did u flip a mower

  • Probably 50 times or less.

  • You need an atv! LOL!

  • Ever rebuild one of those wisconsin motors? I've tried rebuilding my 1968 12hp several times and those dam rings are so tight! Can't get the piston to move even with a standard size piston kit and tons of assembly lube!

  • i never have. man, thats crazy! i wonder what the deal is with that? is that a good thing in the long run? maybe make it last longer? I Actually just got the 12HP that came off this 1256 up and running on a 1225 i got that has a broken connecting rod. I needed the stator, and solid state ignition box from that engine to get the 1256 engine going. TONS of power now :) I have a few i want to rebuild! lots of 8.25HP's, and a few 10's

  • @hollows3 You have to gap the rigs before installing them on the piston. 12 thousandths gap while the ring is square in the cylinder would work just fine. Most piston ring sets don't come pre-gaped due to varying bore sizes.

  • @hollows3 Did you gap the rings?

  • idk about that

  • about what?

  • haha how the FUCK didu start that huge thing with a rope

  • yeah! its cool that that works... you have to pull hard, but not a quick jerk, or it just tries to rip the handle out of your hands. once you get a hang of it its awesome. and the thing starts easy too, which is cool. but yeah, not only is the engine huge, but the pully is pretty small that the rope's around, so that makes it even harder yet to spin, but spins the engine faster in the long run :) These guys greg and aaron thought up the idea of just wrapping a rope around the front pully

  • you should get the tractor that can turn in the middle and make that run again

  • definitely one of the upcoming projects :)

  • nice tractor romping like always!

  • Thank you much! having fun : )

  • you should make a video of the 1225 and i would have sold u mine but i blew the hydro in it

  • aw no! thats whats gonna happen to this one soon i'm sure. we're ruthless. :) 1225 vids for sure! soon as i pick up, or get the thing droped off.

  • so u fixed the motor mounts on that?

  • did some alteration, and some improvements! its rocking! hasn't broken yet.

  • SWEET. i love that tractor!

  • that guy took no prisioners!

  • haha!

  • That sure is nice! I like those older B&S opposed twin engines, they're really tough, not like the later B&S "Twin II" opposed engines, which are total crap even though based heavily on the original opposed they completely suck, I've seen several where the connecting rod bolts actually work themselves loose!

  • Really? The twin II's are bad? I have a couple of them - seem to run fine.

  • The first Twin II's from the late 80's and early 90's were OK, but towards the mid 90's they started to turn to shit, and by 2001 or so when they discontinued them, they were almost guaranteed to fail prematurely. Pretty much any Twin II with a red shroud AND a plastic flywheel screen is trash. Poor build quality mostly.

  • Hmm, i think my newest is a 99 - ill haveta go look sometime and see- its been raining for almost 3 days here now- odd, first we're in a drought, now we're being drown out.....

  • Awesome video, I must watch it again.

  • Nice! glad you dug it! thanks man

  • Sweet! Id like to find more twin horizontal motors- can slap em on my modifed lawntractors .

Gotta love the hydro trans- least on those hills y didnt have to slap it in reverse- with a manual yd be flipping over before hitting reverse.

  • yeah! especially on a bolens, it really is the best. because in a bolens if you go up a hill, and throw it in neutral, it won't roll, the trans locks up, and yeah... you'll flip backwards fast. i've done that on some crazy hills. this thing kinda makes you feel fearless.

The twin's are cool... for sure. How do you make them work on vertical shaft mowers?

  • Easy- mount it sideways in the chassis, use a heavy duty go kart clutch, couple tensioner pulleys, chop a hole in the frame to run the chain to a straight rear axle- doing it that way y can run a full chain ( no slippin'!) or yd have to mount a small jackshaft in there to put a sprocket on.

  • I love the sound of those with the stock muffler under load...sounds like a diesel.

  • Yeah, deffinatly, a diesel tractor sound.

  • UBER COOL

  • That DOES have power, and more importantly torque! Nice!

  • Yeah! just what that old big hydro needs. i've had the 8.25HP wisonconsin's on it before, and they just can't move the thing in mud at all.

  • Now it's really down to traction. You should get some ITP Mud Lite or 589 M/S tires (it'd have no problem rolling the heavier 589s), then it'd be unstoppable!

  • dude that is bitchin!!! did you pull the Briggs off one of the old sears'???

  • yeah, that thing really is vicious! awesome to have a bolens with so much power.

3 years or so ago i pulled this beast off of a craftsman. not even a sears. it sucked... the only thing cool it had going for it was that it had high and low, just like the sears do, sticking out the side. but it was a horrible tractor... junk. it was a 3 blade deck, but it didn't cut well for shit. even with the blades sharpened. Stupid tractor. Free though! and this engine rocks!

  • yeah, crapsmans are shit. Sears is good, though. I like the tough old sears suburbans. but bolens is still better.
