The musicians composing PSB are gay, really. This song was originally written by The Village People but made more famous by the former. "Go West" was a term used in the 1970s to refer to a utopian exodus to gay-friendly San Francisco. They remade it when asked to perform at an AIDS benefit concert in 1992. Knowing that takes the Communist-chic out of it a little I think. If you like this I recommend trying some of the Red Army Choir songs.
