  • Hey Appslice, I was wondering, would this case fit 2 gtx 560's, a 1500watt power supply (easily), a huge cooling fan (for CPU) and 16gb of ram or would it be to compaq to fit? Also did you have to cut out the back of the case yourself (for motherboard components) or was it predone and also will all motherboards fit? Because I want to know if there is a lot of tinkering involved and I have a x58 Evga x3 sli (I think that's the actual name of it). I loved this video.

    Thank you

  • @niggaman12345678 I don't think 2 560s will fit because of the limitations of the motherboard tray, but everything else seems good. I don't know how big your CPU fan is, so it's hard to say how that'll fit. I had to cut out the back of the computer to slide in the motherboard tray, yes. I just used some tinsnips. All mini-atx boards should fit nicely, although I'm not sure about the mobo you have since it's full ATX. You might have to forget about the top shelf and put the HDDs somewhere else

  • @AppSlice

    What happened to part 1?

  • @wiigamer136 Nothing did. Part one is a series of unboxing videos. Haha.

  • @AppSlice

Lol. I though it was part of the other hackintosh!

  • In total, how much did this cost?

  • @duderme All the components cost $737, but the G5 case (bought it for $30 + $50 shipping, then spent about $20 on paint) was ~$100 and the motherboard tray was $40. So all in all, about $877 for the whole system.

  • @AppSlice WOW. That's cheaper than a real Apple Machine for sure. Does it run very speedy and well compared to Windows?

  • @duderme It runs very speedily in both OS X and Windows. It kicks the crap out of the iMac I had which originally cost me $1199!

  • What kind of paint did you use?

  • why are you naked?

  • @billonicle Lol, as you can see at 2:43 I had a beater on, but even still... sorry you had to see me with a beater on =P

  • @AppSlice oh ok lol, nice build still

  • Where did you get the rear mb plate?

  • @raulgalvanjr Sorry for the late response. I got the motherboard tray at frozencpu for about 40 bucks.

  • just call it "lion i5" or "lion king pro" how about "mac 5" or "mac roar"

  • What model of mobo tray from Lian Li did you grab for this? Nice g5 mod, btw. :) Thanks.

  • @cbuckgo Hey man, thanks for checking out my video! I sent you a PM to the specific tray I used, although it shouldn't really matter which one you use as long as you can cut it down to fit in the case. The tray I got was a little too tall to fit under the shelf that holds the optical drive and HDD cage, so we had to cut it down a few inches.

  • where did you get that usb hub

  • @pjfadriquela It's called the Gameon (or Gamemon, not sure) Universal USB Converter, although I can't find it anywhere online anymore. I got it like 4 or 5 years ago as a gift, so I have no idea where they got it.

  • What tools did you use?

Did you have to get any special screw drivers or anything..

    Thanks

  • @AllYourTech Well, for disassembling the G5 I believe the only things I needed were a philips screwdriver and a hex wrench, but to cut the back of the G5 out to fit the motherboard tray you'll need something like a dremel or tin snips.

  • Name it "Power Mac i5" that's what I was going to name mine but i have an i3 2130

  • get a shirt on dam

  • @1992tbrown2012 Lol, I didn't think it would show that I didn't have one on but it did =P

  • Hi build a Lion hackintosh but i can't make it to boot without USB flash and then select my Lion's drive can you make a video how to setup boot from the hard drive. Thanx and great Mac you have there, i mean hackintosh ;)

  • name ( Hack master pro )

  • Could i fit 2 ssd and 2 hdd in here?

  • @zXxXspartonXxXz with a little modding yes cuz a g5 case only supports 2 hd a mac pro supports 4

  • hey man. i have the same motherboard. how do i enable firewire? i'm running lion as well and my sound options says i have no input or output devices

  • can u also do it with an imac g5?

  • Lol, i'm having the same motherboard and are using an G5 Case too which got the same defect on shipping, Déjà-vu? Which Motherboard tray did you used? Your back seems very good and much better than mine.

  • did u have to modify the micro atx motherboard standoffs? or did the g5 case support the standoff?

  • CALL IT "PINEAPPLE G5" !

I call all my computers Pineapples!

My current computer is PNX-6 which stands for Pineapple Nucleus Generation 6

  • Nice job! on mine I took the insides of a standard ATX PSU and placed the circuits inside of the G5 PSU casing, the G5 PSU has built in dual fans and is nice and tucked away at the bottom maintaining the original look, If anyone considers this just be very careful as PSU can shock you if you touch the wrong thing, wire up the original power socket and you'll have a nice converted G5 PSU that when using a Mini ATX board makes the inside look really clean as the PSU is hidden at the bottom!

  • Thank you very much for the link and Happy New Year!

  • How did u get the fullscreen boot logo mine got a black frame i got a 21,5" monitor and full HD resolution i tried to change the resolutions ind the boot them.plist pls answer :)

  • @iDimix I have no idea why you're not getting the fullscreen logo. Mine's always been like this, so I'm not sure how to fix it. You could try messing with some of the boot options in MultiBeast to see if that works for you. Also, you could ask some people in the tonymac forums if that doesn't work.

  • How about PowerHack i5

  • nice job,I see you got the diagram for the front IO.I cant find it anywhere, please could you be so kind as to give me a link for it or let me know where you got it from..thank you.

  • @montana556655 Sending you a PM.

  • How much DIY was involved in this? I can do DIY, but not that well.

  • @JamerTheProgrammer Well, a lot of work went into repairing the case, which involved reshaping, painting, and sanding, but otherwise not much. The two big jobs were cutting out the back to slide the motherboard tray in and wiring the front panel pinout correctly. If you buy a case with parts still inside, you'll have to take those out as well, which requires a philips screwdriver and a hex wrench.

  • Name it zues

  • how about hackmac

  • Does the CD-DRive work

  • @Brownieinbox Sure does.

  • $30 is such a good buy

  • @Brownieinbox Yeah, but this thing (since it was a full computer and not just the case) cost a small fortune to ship, and since the case was damaged it cost like $20 more to fix it. So in all, I spent about $100 for the case.

  • Im also with Big Mac

  • Gigga Please :P

  • So can you take a used G5 case and make it to where it will run windows instead of just OSX?

  • @WarriorKidd06 Absolutely. The point of a hackintosh is that it's normal PC hardware running OS X. This thing runs Windows like a champ.

  • Gi5 - Pro

  • Better hardware than what that pos comes with! I like the design and some software features but the os and hardware just blows :(

  • @MrTpengineer The OS is up to opinion, but what's wrong with the hardware?

  • @AppSlice Leaking water systems cousing the powrer supply to rust and short out, faulty motherboards in the g5, and faulty power supply's on non-watercooled systems.

  • @MrTpengineer Oh.... you know this isn't an actual G5 right? I gutted the case and put PC parts in it. Besides, this system wasn't water cooled in the first place. Haha.

  • @AppSlice I know that lol, I meant the orignal hardware that does come with it, it wasn't water cooled and the psu is rusted???

  • @MrTpengineer Better hardware ? ur crazy mac pro comes with 12 cores if you want !!!

  • @GeekTechniqueTV so? I can put 12 cores in my pc easy, in fact the performance would be better because it doesn't lack Cache and bus speed like the g5 does, that and the g5 uses 12 cores in parallel, like how they use 4 xeon cpu's in each comp, but it has the performance of only one. That and the outdated hardware that is super expensive.

  • @GeekTechniqueTV Seeing your channel I don't think you've ever owned a pc, so you saying macs have 12 cores mean nothing to me when it can be mached or out done.

  • you should call in the iPack because its a pc and mac. idk kinda cheesey

  • Hey . I Tried This Things Be4 . But I Keep Fail . May I Know How You Do It ?

  • Just curious, why do so many people doing this conversion use a Lian Li motherboard tray?

  • @intheshitter Because it has the best look for the case I belive.

  • does it have to be a gigabyte motherboard???

  • @Ruiso7 Absolutely not. There are tons of motherboards supported and you can see the whole list if you google "hackintosh compatibility list".

  • @AppSlice thanks i always watched hackingtosh vids with gigabyte boards in then I started to think that only those were supported XD

  • @Ruiso7 No problem. Yeah haha, a lot of people use them because they're cheap but good boards, and pretty much all of Tonymacx86's recommended builds uses them.

  • @AppSlice lol thanks again XD

  • Would you be able to make a video of the post install process. I have the same Mobo and can't get the my ethernet to work.

  • @redempcion Did you choose any ethernet options in multibeast?

  • @AppSlice I got it to work. I needed to use EFI-studio to create a new entry in my com.apple.Boot.plist. Thanks for the reply

  • @redempcion No problem. Sorry for the late response.

  • @AppSlice Are you buy chance at Pennstate? I'm at pennstate and we also have those stickers on our light switches.

  • @redempcion Yes I am. Haha. What campus are you at?

  • @AppSlice UP

  • @redempcion Ahh.. crazy week huh? lol. I'm at Behrend and even we had a "riot"

  • @AppSlice Yea, it's been crazy. I work actually work at PSU UP campus so we are getting flooded all sorts of craziness. Its a shame for a lot of people all because of one guy.

  • g5 pinout front panel helppppppppppppppppppppppppppp

  • Name: SandyMac G5

  • WHAT MOBO TRAY DID YOU USE??!!
