It's an amazing reality that every time I play videos of exorcisms by the Roman Catholic Church even with my earphones on my Pit Bull's starts to bark like he's spooked by something. I watch Protestant videos of supposed exorcisms of guys screaming and he's quiet and serene. They know what's fake, they sense it. This stuff is real and it brings it on to the extent they refer true cases to Priest. The Power comes form Jesus who sanctified it so the gates of hell can not prevail against it.

Where does it say fasting is required in the Scriptures? I only see Jesus say faith or prayer....

@Grayhatt Matt. 6:16, 1 Kings 21:27; Psalm 35:13; Acts 13:3; 2 Cor. 6:5 mention fasting. It's important also to remember that Jesus fasted for 40 days.

@DCDUO You are right, it is indeed mentioned as you said, but I was referring specifically to the account of expelling the demon. The Text doesn't say "fasting" as far as it is accepted by most translations. That word is omitted in Matthew 17:21. In fact the whole verse is omitted and in the parallel of Mark the word fasting is left out. I know it is mentioned, but required, it was only thus for those under the Law.

It is commonly the KJV that excludes it (as well a certain modern translations such as the New Living and the English Standard) Although I'm by no means qualified to give a certain answer, my understanding is that we no longer have papyri of the original portion of that text of Matthew but our earliest comes from roughly 300 AD, it seems as though manuscripts have ommited "and fasting" for years, but the omittions become less as you work back through the

@Grayhatt centuries (carrying on from the other text box) perhaps the older manuscripts were more accurate than our current ones, but I cannot say. I have heard several linguistic explainations for the omittion of the translations, but In any case, the Church has always taught that an exorcist is to undergo fasting prior to an exorcism. The NT scripture is ultimately a product of the Church, so either way you've nothing to worry ;)

Oh God the priest made a slight mistake and said Fatih and Prayer not Faith and Fasting....GET OVER IT he's human you fools. this is not the head exorcist of the vatican though, other then that this is good. Father Gaberial Amorth, for 50 yrs as an exorcist, is the ''head'' exorcist, though at 83, he is not taking any new cases.

Bndctus, actually the father is looking at the context at the entire verses found in Luke 9:14-28. Jesus calls the failure of the Disciples, "O unbelieving generation..." This would lead one to the conclusion looking at these passages that the faith required for the deliverance of this particular sort of demons can only come through prayer and fasting by a true follower of Jesus Christ. I'm a Protestant, and in my opinion this was a good presentation by the priest.

Actually the quote from Jesus he was reffering is "These kinds of demons go out only by prayer and fasting" not by prayer and faith as the father said. Maybe he was quoting something else, i could be wrong.
