It's almost impossible for spotters to react fast enough to something like this. It wouldn't be difficult at all to use a bench with adjustable spotter racks on each side for powerlifting meets. But for course they will probably wait until someone gets killed before they start implementing such a practical safety device.
@kcmccloskey i was about to say the same thing as the other person. how did this roll out of your hand if you had your thumb gripping it. just curious i guess.
just because he fucked up, doesnt make it the spotters fault. he shouldve kept a secure grip on the weight. even if the weight is too heavy who in the right fucking mind releases their grip on 510lbs?! what u do is keep a grip and even if ur not going to make the rep, the spotters will be able to tell that you are struggling to get it up by yourself and they will help you!
so u have to have a thumb with other fingers grip like not like the nromal way where u have ur hands grabin somthing like u know wat i mena i just dont know how to explain it lol wich wy is better thou ????
dude the same happen to me but i was doing 350 and i didnt have anyone to help me pul the bar off... i had a broken wrist and broken ribs.. i feel your pain bro
Thumbs were around the bar. Actually the USAPL does not even allow a thumbless grip (or didn't at the time) The bar just got a little low on me, and my thumbs weren't strong enough to keep it from rolling at the particular angle it was rolling at (sprained the HELL out of one of them)
samething happened to me last night, its not as bad as it looks...my thumbs werent around the barbell and it slipped out of my hand...

strongman687 1 year ago
well it is the spotters fault, the problem is it happened so fast and they are looking at his chest instead of their side.

Wow man, terminal velocity to the chest. You have some balls to follow through with the next attempt man.

Actually, I DIDN'T take the next attempt. I did take my deadlifts though. I got the 510 at my next meet (05 Nationals in Killeen)

how were your thumbs placed? did you have a grip on the bar or did you just push without thumbs?
I am glad you were fine after that bad accident!

Jesus.. were you seriously injured at all?. That's sick you came back so strong in just a year, congrats.
Otis728 2 years ago
No serious injuries. It hurt very badly to laugh, cough or speak loudly for a week or more though.
