David Schweickart is appalling. Doesn't have a clue about economics or what brings about booms and busts (central banks do). Are you fucking kidding me Cross Talk? All these so called "expert" economists have no clue what capitalism is. And I don't think RT know what it is either. What we have in the US currently is not a capitalist free market, but rather a crony-capitalism. And the government system we have in the US is not a democracy. The founders clearly stated we are a republic.
What we need right now is to restore the republic and capitalism not these yahoos professors.
-- We need to remember that it is a chain and any break in that chain compromises the entire system. The people who have been compramising the streingth of that chain and drainign value for their own benefit are beginning to see the system break down. And they are trying to keep others blind to this until they can get just a little more out of the system. Which is what will be the system's downfall.
The underlying Falasy of the concept of The Majority taking the wealth from the wealthy is. The Wealth was created by the Majority. Not he wealthy. The Wealthy may have come up with an idea or was born in the family of someone who came up with the idea. But the wealth generated by that idea came form the people who built the idea sold the idea and bought the idea. When the value of the idea out weighs the value making the idea into reality and the selling of the idea the entire system falls.--
@gshooting The Wealthy risked their wealth? When? where? on what planet do you live? Every "wealthy" person got their wealth A: from someone who got it from the workers at the company. or B: from the workers at the factory directly. There is no wealthy person who didn't have thousands of workers putting in to build their wealth. Wealth is a zero sum game. there is only so much and we all put in to make Steve jobs a billionaire we all put in to make Bill Gates a billionaire.
@JRMCNEA Who pays the workers? Who pays for the tools and machinery they use? The wealthy. They're the ones risking their capital to create a profit, not the workers. If the company does badly, the worker's wages don't stop being paid. It's the wealthy who lose. Wealth is not a zero sum game. If I grow wheat all year and you grow corn all year, and if I want to eat more than wheat all year and you the same with corn, we can trade and in doing so would create wealth.
@gshooting And The Fallacy that I was talking about was We all put in on infrastructure that some benefit from more then the average person. Like roads. A Truck driving company makes millions because they don't have to pave and fix the roads themselves. We pay for the electric infrastructure. Companies lease areas and make money transporting electricity on the infrastructure. We pay for clean water. And Coke puts it in a bottle and sells it for 10000 times what it cost them.
@Sismiques At the cost of the drivers and not the Companies... Individuals are constantly screwed over while Corporations get a free ride. Constantly telling us we aren't good enough and that we need to "Pull our own weight." While we have been to busy pulling theirs...
@JRMCNEA The owner of the truck driving company has to pay the same as you, the taxpayer, through his taxes. If you don't have the capital to create a truck driving business, that's your problem. The owner has to pay for the electric infrastructure, through his taxes. You're no different from him, so stop acting like you're subsidising these business. So what if Coke bottles clean water? People still pay for it. Again, there is NO fallacy here.
@gshooting The truck driving comapny owner DOES NOT have to pay for the road to be paved. Yes he pays in taxes like the rest of us. But he is not paying a fee for using that road for business. The Electric company owner is paying taxes but he IS NOT paying for the maintenance of the wires he uses to sell his product. We pay for them we give them grants to build their power plants we give them leases for the land. Their capitol ends at pitching their deal to the municipalities.
@JRMCNEA I CAN NOt as a regular tax payer start selling electricity out of my back yard. So you are wrong on that front, I could start a trucking business. But the few hundred I pay a year for the road is not even measurable when it comes to the cost of the road. Workers build the products with materials other workers mine and fabricate. consumers buy the finished products and the amount of the cost that goes to the workers is about 5%. 60% goes to the over all cost and the other 35%?
Those are the average takes of a profitable business. Things like oil and electric companies have a profit take in of about 35-45% That is before tax rebates and corporate welfare.
I dont understand why communism ended when it did, right in the begining of the digital age. The problem for most people was not enough consumer goods, technology would have increased productivity and comunism would work good with some changes. After all the people went through to build and industrialize, everything was stolen and a few people became very rich.
@PrunVeIes You really think the Polit Bureau represented the best interests of the people? Did Joe Stalin, and Mao Zhedong do well by the vast majority of people? Communism, and its cousin Socialism are FORCE. A true free market is just freedom. Individual humans are by nature competitive. Cooperation comes about when two competitive beings realize the mutual benefit of cooperating. The heavy hand of government bureaucracy is subject to all manner of corruption and unbalances a free market.
I know of the history, there was many problems. There were good things such as health care, schools, plus the natural resources were nationalized. How was the free market good when comunism ended, the ecomomys are still bad, people have to leave and work in other countries to afford consumer products. The old system was very bad but with changes allowing competition and ownership would be good, when communism ended the people got screwed and some international agents got rich.
@PrunVeIes It's not just the past or history. Socialism at its very core believes in big government bureaucracy setting "right" all the "wrongs" of the world by collective FORCE. At fundament it attracts unrealistic idealists, bully enforcers, and power hungry elites who use a populist message to gain power, then steer the ship to their own ends. Look at the socialist EU commission today, unelected rulers by decree. The EU parliament is merely a rubber stamp, cannot propose or amend legislation.
I dont think socialism is works better, maybe in some cases. My comment was mainly about the Warsaw pact countries, and how the changes happened there. First people got screwed when communism was forced apon them, and then very fast it went to the other extreme when it ended and people got screwed again while some eliets became billionairs. And now because of neo-liberal economics the people in eastern europe will probably get screwed again. Politicians are banker agents.
I highly recommend reading David Schweickart's book "After Capitalism", in which he advocates a model called economic democracy. Its definitely among the ideas that I think should considered much more seriously, in this time of systemic failure.
I would'v like to see Peter Joseph from the Zeitgeist Movement on this episode, just so he could destroy these Capitalist religious fanatics to bits and pieces by using the truth.
Capitalism or any other system change, they can't stay the same it is against the laws of physics and common sense.
@Ramiromasters I agree, most people can't think of any type of economic system without money. People tend to not even think of such a possibility, because that is not what they're used to.
We are so technologically advanced today that it would be no problem at all to provide every human being on the planet with all of their needs. However, this can never happen within a monetary system because people have to "earn" these things, and it wouldn't be "profitable". Inequality is built in.
Whenever I hear an "expert" call the free market into question, they lose all credibility with me. The free market hasn't existed in America for at least a century. How can you call an economy that sees constant government intervention, whether it's price controls or bailouts and averyrhing in between, and has a privately run central bank, that enjoys a monopoly on currency, a free market? Wake up people. The "capitalists" would love nothing more than to have you falsely blame the free market.
We do not have free market capitalism in the USA we have fascism and corporatism. We lost free markets and democracy in 1913 anyone who is unaware of this is just that unaware.
Well done Russia! Respect yourself and your Heroes.Show bloody NATO and USA who you are.The UN and the stupid English,France are a toys in the hands of USA. Clinton,Bush and new President are killer of innocent people in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and now Iran. The greatest dangerous countries are USA and Israel. The World have to stop the provocation of Israel from the World War III.People of the World save the Peace!!!
There is no democracy in any workplace I've ever work in. The capitalists I've worked for were all dictators in the workplace. I'd be surprised if a capitalist would allow me to alter any of their contracts they expect me to sign before entering into an arrangement with me.
14:45 Howard is a plutocratic windbag. . .what a douche bag. . .education is not the answer to 20MM unemployed in the US. With the contingent workforces in India and China, unless the US is re-industrialized and capital controls are put in place to prevent global wage equalization, the middle class will continue to be flattened.
03:25 Despite the name "Socialist" in the name of the Nazi party, the German government under the Nazi party was an ultra right-wing Fascist dictatorship run by one Adolph Hitler with the broad support of globalist business and financial interests.
@0gods It was exactly what it said in the name - National Socialist German Workers Party. Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei in German. While anti-marxist/communist, it was also anti-business/capitalist. It believed in strong central government - a tenet of any socialist organization, and its abuse of power once gained need not be re-iterated here.
Capitalism? These protests demonstrate our lack of capitalism! We are under a crony-capitalistic / socialist system. This would never happen under true capitalism.
@endurox50 And just how do you plan on getting a real free market going with an economy that is based on the military-backed extraction of oil and many other key resources? This is the kind of deluded thinking that got us here in the first place!
@endurox50 Whats socialist about this system? Because the core of socialism is worker control over means of production. When in fact its the hand of a small elite...making it like feodal system.
"During the Second World War, International Communism must become strong enough in order to balance Christendom, which would be then restrained and held in check until the time when we would need it for the final social cataclysm." Albert Pike
@Kinkspace - thank you, Yes thats what im saying, but all we here in the medea is democracy over and over, thats why most people think we have a democracy !!
@wldbill57 In action it is neither; in order to be a republic it would be necessary for the people to have control over the government, and in order to be a democracy it would be one person one vote without the corruption of a "hereditary ol' boys club" of corporate MIC lobbying controlling governance.
Capitalism will die or the people will die and they do intend to kill off a large portion.
David is right about the banks not being the problem but the system. The capitalists did not want to raise the wages of increasingly impoverished labourers so the banks came along and said we'll loan you the money. Saying gov't is stopping wage increases is propaganda because the capitalists keep getting richer and nothing is stopping them from paying higher wages only their own greed.
The capitalists have a balancing act when it comes to technology. They want technology to replace labour and labour costs but at the same time if technology gets too advanced that the people can have their basic needs met with little to no effort then the idea of economy becomes obsolete and the capitalists lose their power.
Let's say your job of 25 years got replaced by a machine. Where are you going to get the money to retrain and your working life is basically over?
The moneyed interests, of course, want more money. When you have the wealth and means to influence gov't then of course you buy off politicians to make yourself richer.
When you're rich, you will do whatever you can to make yourself richer and oppress others so that they don't challenge your standing. It's human nature.
The propaganda from the capitalists is the idea that the society as a whole benefits from this. It's not true at all.
The relationship between capital and labour has to change. It has to be far more equitable for labour. Usury or "capital gains" is out of control.
Supply side economics is nonsense. The propaganda is that you favour those that own the means of production so they make products cheaper. You can make a Ferrari for 1¢ if it can't be sold for 2¢ then it's not worth producing. Supply siders purposely equate "demand" with having the means to purchase which are not the same.
Dont blame the banks? lol,Well they are even to bigger to fail now! now that they have snapped up all the smaller ones! & yea it was our bailout money that paid for it.
institute of economic affairs? well hes not done a very good job now has he!,The rich dont wana share! SIMPLE,But yet they claim its for everyone? lol wheres my trickledown? huh.
Were living well in the Uk,OH really? if you live in a big house in london well ok but the rest of us dont,What 5 quid an hour & were all doing great? i think not me old chap,Not when its 1.30 for a few bus stops & 8 quid for a haircut!
The founders? lol,America is finished! this system is rotten,Top to bottom! & how they claim to be free market when they get bailouts left & right lol,Its ok folks while your car falls from the golden gate!
I love RT; I mean how many news station will actually have 20 min discussions of the issues from people of different view points. Usually it's 5 minutes of everyone yelling at the top of their lungs and the anchor will say something ridiculously obvious like, "well as you can see there is still passionate disagreement, coming up next a dog that whistles?... We'll show you the viral video that has become an over night sensation"
It's REPUBLIC, REPUBLIC, REPUBLIC People ..find out the difference between democracy and republic...WE ARE a Democracy (51% rule the 49%)..we're suppose to be a REPUBLIC!!(99% rule the 1%) They've hyjacked our understanding and verbage
Crapitalism failed and western democracy is a Nazism. Yankee NATO scumbags have no moral rights to even speak of democracy or any human values after their crimes in Libya.
Capitalism is very good the only problem is that we was feeding pigs and terrorists for last 20 Years. It is OK to borrow some money , example to build infrastructure , energy .. But now is to eat pork and be terrorized.
All these people who cannot change their religious 'belief' that we must have a monetary system should go away and retire ....they are dinosaurs who will take us into an ever worsening future. If it was possible to 'fix' the monetary system, it would have been fixed long ago.
IF the British armed forces are accelerating plans for a potential military action in Iran targeted. Can we have already started to stockpile HOME FOR A THIRD WORLD WAR? "" Thank you Lord OF MISSIONS FOR PEACE WITH THE 'IRAN AFTER WILL BE EVEN MORE' WHY WE LIGHT government as well ""
@TheAnonCollective The problem with his statement though is that it was no longer laissez faire capitalism once the FED was introduced into the economy.
@Armando7654 Democracy as a DIRECT threat to the "free market". If the majority get to choose, they will want to have minimum wage laws, and 8 hour work day laws etc..
That interferes with this impossible "free market" Libertards keep talking about. You can't have Capitalism if the majority still has power, thus Capitalism and Democracy is not compatible.
15:15 the fool in london dear to say that even the poorest people are ritcher today then for 20-30 years ago.
so why the hell do african families eat less and less? he said this by the basis of they "have more money", but that doesnt matter when products are more expensive and money is worth less.
@Kinkspace haha luckily there are some really great people as well! but those are not the ones in control.
this debate should have expanded quite a lot without the london and new york dude just commenting inside the fake paradigm and misrepresenting what the third guy said.
Its the same few families that has been controlling us for ages, they think in generations, not in 4-year election cycles.
Capitalism is a game created by central bankers. when u create money, you dont care about it
that Jesuit is sick if he thinks that a man shouldn't have what he is able to earn simply because this creates a gap of envy in the mind of those who have less!!!
Capitalism = oligarchies and poverty EVERY SINGLE TIME. Look at Cuba, Argentina, and Nazi Germany...
Nazi Germany was NOT socialist, Hitler's party were capitalists of the Austrian/Chicago/Mesis/Reganomics ideology. Nazi Germany was a Capitalist Oligarchy society.
Capitalism and democracy and mutually exclusive. You can't have democracy in a capitalist society as capitalism rapidly overpowers democracy. In fact no poltio-economic system that enables concentrations of power will allow democracy to function. Western democracies vanished many years ago, but are still called democracies to keep the 'unwashed masses', to use the elite vernacular, passive.
Western education (indoctrination) ensures that they dont have the intellectual tools to pop the bubble.
We can go back to the auto industry but for futuristic cars but we must be willing to pay the workers a fair wage instead of letting the top one% getting all the benifit from the work of all.
Hahahahaha oh wow. I'm pretty sure it was the centralization of banking using government support is what caused the great depression, as is the case today.
JP Morgan Chase makes a direct and guaranteed profit on food stamps or the equivalent through deals with the government. Thats only one way they profit on poverty.
Also don't forget they can reclaim underwater properties from the unemployed and hold them indefinitely without paying property taxes.
Three words, Resource Based Economy. That way you can cut out the cancerous middle man (bankers/brokers/currency peddlers) than the remaining resources are open ended and divided equally amongst the rest.
@crimsonsamuraiftw why should the resources be divided equally among the rest when each of us is unequal productive? Why should you have as much as Bill Gates? And also who made you divided of someone ales fruits of labor? Who motherfucker? you are the cancer on man's work! DIE!
@Armando7654 Does a CEO work harder than a farmer? Does a stock trader work harder than a carpenter? The top 1% don't sow... they only reap. It's the Oligarchy that are welfare recipients from the pay of hard working people.
On that same note, just because humans aren't identical doesn't mean they are worth less. Unless you see people as a commodity, in which case you should be hung by your convenient noose like neck tie
What we need is participatory democracy added to the system. We need to be able to tell the government NO. We need to be able to veto laws with the referendum, and we need to be able to fire bought off representatives with recall.
The problem is that the few buy the government. We need to take our government back.

When the value of the idea out weighs the value making the idea into reality and the selling of the idea the entire system falls.--
JRMCNEA 3 months ago
@JRMCNEA who risked their capital to create the wealth? The wealthy. Sorry but there's no fallacy here.
gshooting 3 months ago in playlist More videos from RussiaToday
@gshooting The Wealthy risked their wealth? When? where? on what planet do you live? Every "wealthy" person got their wealth A: from someone who got it from the workers at the company. or B: from the workers at the factory directly. There is no wealthy person who didn't have thousands of workers putting in to build their wealth. Wealth is a zero sum game. there is only so much and we all put in to make Steve jobs a billionaire we all put in to make Bill Gates a billionaire.
JRMCNEA 3 months ago
@JRMCNEA Who pays the workers? Who pays for the tools and machinery they use? The wealthy. They're the ones risking their capital to create a profit, not the workers. If the company does badly, the worker's wages don't stop being paid. It's the wealthy who lose. Wealth is not a zero sum game. If I grow wheat all year and you grow corn all year, and if I want to eat more than wheat all year and you the same with corn, we can trade and in doing so would create wealth.
gshooting 3 months ago
@gshooting And The Fallacy that I was talking about was We all put in on infrastructure that some benefit from more then the average person. Like roads. A Truck driving company makes millions because they don't have to pave and fix the roads themselves. We pay for the electric infrastructure. Companies lease areas and make money transporting electricity on the infrastructure. We pay for clean water. And Coke puts it in a bottle and sells it for 10000 times what it cost them.
JRMCNEA 3 months ago
@JRMCNEA
And yet the cops harass the individual truck drivers, and the funds from the fines are misappropriated.
Sismiques 3 months ago
@Sismiques At the cost of the drivers and not the Companies... Individuals are constantly screwed over while Corporations get a free ride. Constantly telling us we aren't good enough and that we need to "Pull our own weight." While we have been to busy pulling theirs...
JRMCNEA 3 months ago
@JRMCNEA
Yeah.
Sismiques 3 months ago
@JRMCNEA The owner of the truck driving company has to pay the same as you, the taxpayer, through his taxes. If you don't have the capital to create a truck driving business, that's your problem. The owner has to pay for the electric infrastructure, through his taxes. You're no different from him, so stop acting like you're subsidising these business. So what if Coke bottles clean water? People still pay for it. Again, there is NO fallacy here.
gshooting 3 months ago
@gshooting The truck driving comapny owner DOES NOT have to pay for the road to be paved. Yes he pays in taxes like the rest of us. But he is not paying a fee for using that road for business. The Electric company owner is paying taxes but he IS NOT paying for the maintenance of the wires he uses to sell his product. We pay for them we give them grants to build their power plants we give them leases for the land. Their capitol ends at pitching their deal to the municipalities.
JRMCNEA 3 months ago
@JRMCNEA I CAN NOt as a regular tax payer start selling electricity out of my back yard. So you are wrong on that front, I could start a trucking business. But the few hundred I pay a year for the road is not even measurable when it comes to the cost of the road. Workers build the products with materials other workers mine and fabricate. consumers buy the finished products and the amount of the cost that goes to the workers is about 5%. 60% goes to the over all cost and the other 35%?
JRMCNEA 3 months ago
@JRMCNEA I'm not wrong on any front. Where did you get your percentages from? Did you just make them up?
gshooting 3 months ago
Those are the average takes of a profitable business. Things like oil and electric companies have a profit take in of about 35-45% That is before tax rebates and corporate welfare.

chegvra 3 months ago
I dont understand why communism ended when it did, right in the begining of the digital age. The problem for most people was not enough consumer goods, technology would have increased productivity and comunism would work good with some changes. After all the people went through to build and industrialize, everything was stolen and a few people became very rich.
PrunVeIes 3 months ago
@PrunVeIes You really think the Polit Bureau represented the best interests of the people? Did Joe Stalin, and Mao Zhedong do well by the vast majority of people? Communism, and its cousin Socialism are FORCE. A true free market is just freedom. Individual humans are by nature competitive. Cooperation comes about when two competitive beings realize the mutual benefit of cooperating. The heavy hand of government bureaucracy is subject to all manner of corruption and unbalances a free market.
jepkratz 3 months ago
@jepkratz
PrunVeIes 3 months ago
@PrunVeIes It's not just the past or history. Socialism at its very core believes in big government bureaucracy setting "right" all the "wrongs" of the world by collective FORCE. At fundament it attracts unrealistic idealists, bully enforcers, and power hungry elites who use a populist message to gain power, then steer the ship to their own ends. Look at the socialist EU commission today, unelected rulers by decree. The EU parliament is merely a rubber stamp, cannot propose or amend legislation.
jepkratz 3 months ago
@jepkratz

How can you call an economy that sees constant government intervention, whether it's price controls or bailouts and averyrhing in between, and has a privately run central bank, that enjoys a monopoly on currency, a free market? Wake up people. The "capitalists" would love nothing more than to have you falsely blame the free market.

Capitalism will die or the people will die and they do intend to kill off a large portion.
David is right about the banks not being the problem but the system. The capitalists did not want to raise the wages of increasingly impoverished labourers so the banks came along and said we'll loan you the money. Saying gov't is stopping wage increases is propaganda because the capitalists keep getting richer and nothing is stopping them from paying higher wages only their own greed.
harveybirdmannequin 3 months ago
@harveybirdmannequin
Where are you going to get the money to retrain and your working life is basically over?
harveybirdmannequin 3 months ago
@harveybirdmannequin
It's not true at all.
harveybirdmannequin 3 months ago
@harveybirdmannequin
