This is the 1985 North Sea Jazz Festival, I know it because I was there and I never forgot this show, it was the best. It was shortly after Weather Report had ended, and this was the opening song. Can you imagine the impression it made? I remember Herbie Hancock being at the PA watching his friend's performance with two gorgeous women. I'd love to see the rest of the gig on here if anyone has it...
@turok0404 Yep, very good and tastefull, just as the whole feel and sounding of this gem from older styled and past days of jazz-rock music. Happy although to see the rating in amount and appreciation being raising as this deserves! ;-)
yes man ,, is long time who i try to convert my video vhs collection to 'avi" ,,but i dont know what is the best logiciel to made it,,, i have many rare videos of the european /brazilian & american jazz ,, i stay to record for many years many tv concerts in spain, germany, italy, france, swissland, england, caribean & brazil !
Fan-tas-tisch.
Man, I couldnt even see that is was Gary. Found this clip after searching for Wayne Shorter, and I didnt even look who was on it, closed the window and started writing on my paper. I heard it was Gary from the first note, he is so recognizable even with different equipment and even if its recoreded like 22 years ago :) Man, Gary really kick it, love his playing...Thanks for posting!
this Is Plaza Real believe me!! the First part as played by the Concertina has been switched but you can hear the second part. I'm a big big fan of Weather Report, i know what i Say. Soory, but you are bad.. !
It's this very formation, with exactly the same repertoire, for example the plaza real-footprints song. It was taken live in the 80's during the Shorter tour. I have several other version of plaza real but they are more or less like the procession version. All other tacks of the concert are the ones we can expect, except this one which is very different from the original (this is why I've searched so long to find what it is). I've never found this version on a "official" recording, do you ?
To my defense, if one get "Procession" to get this track will be disappointed ! It's like they named "The well" track in "Procession" as "Orphan" (in the 8:30 album) because they played a small extract of the second near the end...
Of dit inderdaad 1987 was, weet ik ook niet meer. Maar ik weet wel dat ik in de zaal sta. Wat ik me vooral herinner is Gary Willis, ik was toen helemaal in de ban van topbassisten. Leuk!
I'm using this intro for my next gig. It demand you to shut up and listen.

Amazing. en now in dutch.
Ik wist helemaal niet dat deze NSJ opname er was.
Toen ik de opname bekeek, in eerste instantie vanwege Mitchel Forman, hoorde ik Wayne beginnen.
Ben er helemaal stil van. Dit geeft licht !
Thanx.

What's the name of this tune? It sounds like "late" post-Jaco Weather Report. Which disc would I find this tune on?

Sorry but I cannot tell you that. We'll have to wait till someone specialized in this music, that time will come up with it, grtz, Aart.

My fault, you're right, even if this version is very, very far from the original; its only a small subpart in the middle, I've never made the link.
And i've listened to it twice before writing here to verify, but, I've missed it.
I have an other version of this piece, with the full concert in La Vilette in Paris : a very very rare unknown version...
Thank you for solving the mystery !!!
