@thewr0ngchild all the meat i've tried except for the general flesh of the animal has always tasted gamey or terrible. Organs taste like organs, they have high mineral concentrations (Making them test nauseating) and are chewy. It's a matter of fact.

I have such fond memories of stopping for a Vasteddi in the Lower East Side with my mom (rest her soul!) as a child! She used to mess with us and told us it was squirrel, rabbit, brain, all sorts of crazy things but never told us it was spleen, we girls all loved them! It's an acquired taste but I think for us it was in our blood, being first generation out of Siracusa, Sicily!

I normally eat spleen at chinese tea house. They serve it with cow stomach &spleen with some turnips. Im not sure what the sauce is, but its kinda a sweet savory dark/brown sauce.

Lol, Andrew Zimmern always makes me smile. He tries the weirdest foods and says "oh this is really good" or "this isn't what I was expecting but it's really nice" or has that general reaction but he tries what I would consider to be relatively 'tame' foods like this and genuinely stumbles over it and shys away.

He ate a beating heart freshly pulled from a frog and said it was good but he says the cooked spleen is rank, foul and like mud? Even if he adds that he loves the adventurous foods.
