  • Hi try not to dip your head so much as this spoils the suspended head top, should be a straight line through the body. Also you need to stop splaying the fingers, this is bad for self defence. Very nice and soft though so well done .

  • @sifuoddjob

    Thank you for the comments.

  • @georgehsliew My pleasure!

  • @sifuoddjob

I definitely agree with you about my dipping head, but that's my physique problem that I can't correct. As to the splaying fingers, I respectfully disagree with you. Thank you for your opinion.

  • @georgehsliew Oh I am sorry to hear that.

  • @georgehsliew Thumb sticks out a bit and the fingers splay but nothing too bad! The hook is too low on single whip! I noticed you criticise other masters and thought you should have a little back. Didnt you take vows not to criticise other styles as we do not fully understand?

  • @sifuoddjob

According to the tai chi classics (Yang Lu Chan's book), hand form is NOT an important part of tai chi. My criticism on self defense is based on my own opinion.I hope that my opinion will make people think. But unfortunately most people are very defensive.

  • @georgehsliew Oh you are helping people to think. What they need is to spar a little and learn from their mistakes or if what they are being taught is of any worth. I agree hand form is the least important aspect.

  • @sifuoddjob

You may not think my criticism make some people think. As a matter of fact , it does. Some people never spar with others of different school of martial arts. Don't you think so? I like being criticized, although I may not agree with it. Criticism make me think.

  • The contrast between the square and round forms is fascinating. Thank you for posting these videos.

  • Glad you like it,

  • Thanks for the comment. Glad u like it.

  • I really enjoed watching first the square form, then round form videos of Chen Tin-Hung's tai chi form. There were more changes than I thought there would be. Thanks for posting these.

  • Thanks for your video, can you post rest of the round form.

  • Maybe later.

  • Thank you in advance.

  • george,

My teacher speaks highly of you and i knew a little bit of info before i posted.

I did not know about your physique but kind of guessed that there would also be a reason.

I don't normally post in an argumentative tone but felt i needed to respond to btglynn.

Thanks for posting some interesting videos both new and old and hope that there is more to come.

    Regards.

  • Thank you for speaking out for me and for your teacher's kind comments. By the way, could your teacher be Ian Cameron who is my tai chi brother. We were with Sifu Cheng Tin Hung in the 60s/70s.

I'll continue to post some more vedios comparing hand movements to that of Wing Chun.

  • My teacher is Ian Cameron.

I'm with Ian tomorrow evening at a workshop.

    Look forward to more posts.

    Regards,

    Mark.

  • Say hi to Ian for me!!!

  • btglynn,

Maybe you should find out who people are first

before you bestow the virtues of your comments upon the rest of us.

The form is flowing and is internalised.

The comment of the alleged bad head position may well be that as this form is from the Cheng Tin Hung lineage and has a distinct head and body position it does differ from other styles. I would not call it 'bad' unless i was not familiar with the all the tai chi styles.

Perhaps you should be aware of this?

  • Thank you for kind comments which is very much appreciated. Btglynn's comments is correct and I have already responded.

You are also right about the distinct head and body position. But my head position is mainly due to my physique condition.

  • Its crap - poor definition, bad head position. Dont know who he is but he shouldnt give up the day job

  • Thank you for your comments.

You're right. As a matter of fact, I'd never given up my day job, and I've retired for a little while already.

Your opinion about my head position is correct, too. That is due to the fact that I have a curved upper back. You may have also noticed my "curved back" on the other vedios. Do you think a humpback person should not do tai chi?
