  • I know a lot of people aint gonna like what im about to say, but its a fact, you only need half an ounce of brain matter to understand it...If you pledge allegiance to your flag, you can not also pledge allegiance to your government, your president, your country or any other thing at the same time! haha Why...because you can ONLY pledge your allegiance to any one cause or thing at any one time! It aint rocket science you know!

  • I don't say the pledge because I'm atheist and that's actually why we don't say it in our school, being forced to say the pledge is admitting there is a god, and with freedom of religion it's technically not aloud.

  • My school makes us say the pledge. I just face the flag and hold my hand over my chest so that people won't bug me. I'm already Chinese and Russian, I don't need any more labels in school.

  • The very essense of our government is our ability to CHANGE things thru a process of elections. NOT a perfect system, (Jefferson warned us of this:'we (citizens) must be diligent defenders of liberty'..apathy is a weakness in our present system and the apathy "business" is "a-boomin!" It may NOT be perfect for you, or ME, but I will die trying to make it so for my legacy (4 kids:)) "Bitching" on the sidelines will not help anyone! Plz, get educated, get involved, thank those who gave us freedom!

  • Zachpach, blaspid, et.al..., we get it, you are anti-American, pro-anarchy, and anti-literacy...lol! I (not being faceteious) If you can think of a better way to run a country (ie: a way that is better than the democratic-republic which you abhore..please explain your view. You have a great chance here in the USA to be born (see China's laws), become educated, obtain a job, prosper, VOTE, run for political office, and actually come up with a better document than the U.S. Constitution.

  • how i say the the pledge i pledge alegince to the flag of the competing for money states of american and to the democrats (sadly) for witch it stands not a nation under atheism with little liberty and justice for none its not funny cause its true and you know it

  • I dont say the pledge for the same exact reason..

  • As for Carlkr's video,...the "pledge" is, in my humble opinion, a general statement of our desire as a nation to give liberty to everyone who lives here. It is a framework to state our intentions. Things continue to change; and bigotry, racism, and intolerance is NOT trending upward, but waning. It is far from perfect but I think we can agree it is a place many folks risk their lives to get to..Please, if you feel u are anything but free, get involved and try to change things for u and everyone.

  • @realivedog Well said, realivedog, well said.

  • I'm very afraid for the future of this country. I have four children and in my relatively short life, I have seen a huge degredation of our moral "fabric" as a whole. Most of the comments on this video, or any video for that matter are literally FILLED with foul language. Another trend I see is the complete lack of respect for ANYONE!! I guess the anonymity with the internet allows SOME to spew "F-bombs" and insults freely. I can only hope they would not conduct themselves that way in person.

  • The pledge a verbal oath of goals. A vow that we agree to work toward these things, not a statement of something that already exists. Always room for improvement. These rights may not exist fairly but it's a lot better that in was just 40 years ago, and we keep trying to improve. Not saying the pledge is saying you don't care if these conditions exist or not. But you have the right to state your opion, a right given to you by those that said the pledge. Go figure:)

  • Thats disrespectful. Dont expect respect if you cant even respect the flag of this great country.

Be grateful that you live in the U.S. and not in the Middle East. Be grateful and show respect.

    Thats what I think.

  • @BillFromSonora HAHAHAHA you are funny dude. America wastes the most electicity and gas after china plus america is also the county producing the most co2 in the world after china and if you dont know what co2 is its what causing the global warming. AND America´s economy is equivalent to a pile of shit.

  • fag go so suck cok lols i haz bad enlish hehe

  • i already dont do the pledge... no change here

  • LOL Carl, as a Black person who lived in the 1960s as a high school student, some of us would finish off the pledge of allegiance "with liberty and just for Y'ALL."

Of course it was in reference to the same issue, but then racial inequality. NOw a a Gay Black person, I can relate to those courageous kids like you who 'tell it like is.'

  • boo hoo...i'm a boy and can't wear a dress to school! i'm oppessed!!!

  • No man should have to swear by a false book in the court of law, nor pledge for a false ideal.

  • @blaspid Youre an idiot. You should live in another county so you can see how good you have it.

  • you are so stupid

  • HE SOOOOOOOOOOO CUTE FINE ASS

  • If he's going to treat it as Civil Disobedience he better have accepted the consequences that came with it. Otherwise it was for naught.

  • Interesting argument, no doubt, but I feel like if the kid really had such strong feelings for the gay community, he would be DOING something. Its been an established taboo to not stand for th pledge, so its unoriginality of this gesture has me at a lost for its sincerity. However, the only reason that he would EVER HAVE this choice, and be in a country where homosexuals aren't killed, is for those of the armed forces, who make our nation strong. He should at least stand for their sacrifices.

  • @ShipDipTheChips Great Comment.

  • we never have to say it lool just stand up

  • Actually, what's the only thing that the lgbt community doesn't have the right? marriage. That's alot more fucking equal than the blacks in the 1700's-1900's, and women to basically the 70's...

  • @BBegnoche What's your point? So, people have had it worse, but millions of people in this country have it better by default. The only reason why these people don't is because others believe their imaginary god will frown upon it. It's pretty pathetic that we've made so much progress with blacks and women, but people want to remove rights for religion...lol...makes me happy that one day the human race will become extinct.

  • @ncPsychosis I still don't get it? How aren't gays equal? Okay, yeah they can't marry. But that's only because there are people fighting for the the "definition of marriage." But how else are they unequal? Can they not vote? Are they not citizens? Do they not have to pay taxes, or can't have jobs? I don't get how they're "unequal"

  • @BBegnoche They can't marry, which means a lot considering the privileged of marriage and that people spend decades in a marriage. They can't adopt, because people think they're going to molest their kids - solely for being gay. It's not about having some right, or even a lot..it's about having ALL the rights every American has.

  • @ncPsychosis Okay, I do agree that that's something that needs to be fixed. I'm fine with gay adoption and gay rights. I just don't think that "same-sex marriage" defines that.

  • @BBegnoche It's hard to feel sympathy for something that isn't close to home. I understand that. At least you're not damaging the progress we're making for humans.

  • @ncPsychosis Nobody thinks that Gays are going to molest their kids. Gays should understand that kids should have a mother and a father. Gays are only thinking for themselves. Who you sleep with doesnt matter and isnt anyones business. But start thinking about whats best for children.

  • @BBegnoche can we adopt in most states. no because people say we will rape our children. can we marry, no. are we bullied and harrassed every day in most cases, yes. were we kept out of the military for being who we are until just recently, yes. are gay people murdered on a daily basis, yes. is it still illegal to sodomize in texas, yes. and you think were equal. no offense buti think you need to recheck your facts

  • @thewhatsit104 Can you, personally adopt a child? Yes. Can you serve in the military? Yes. Are short people, computer nerds, and sluts made fun of every day? Yes. Are straight people, woman, Whites, Blacks, Latinos, Asians killed on a daily basis? Yes! And if sodomy is illegal that means oral sex is also illegal, which is something that straight couples enjoy. No offense but I think it's not that bad, but yet again, I wouldn't expect a 13/14 year old to understand that.

  • @BBegnoche well last time i checked those minorities had to worry about being harrassed because of their skin color. NOT because they are straight. we can serve in the military, NOW. also we can adopt a child on our own, but what happens if we get murdered for being gay. what happens to my child, he goes into foster care. and were not even allowed to see our partners in the hospital in most states. you may be an adult but your brain works like a 10 year olds, its basic stuff.

  • @BBegnoche we can adopt children IF WERE SINGLE. but we cant have a civil union or marriage or else that kid goes right back in foster care.we can serve in the military NOW. also people are made fun of and killed because theyre minorities. are you trying to say that murder on race is ok as long as it happens to everyone. have you ever walked down the street and had ppl stare at you and call you faggot. have you lost your job because you were straight? i wouldn't expect an opressor to understand

  • @thewhatsit104 Woah Woah Woah! I'm just trying to point out that gay people aren't the only ones who are "troubled" if that's what it can even be called. Yes, gay people do go through a lot, I understand it is tough. But what I don't get is, why are people calling you a faggot while you're walking down the street? Do you wear a gay shirt? Are you holding hands with a guy? What are you doing that people are yelling faggot at you? Clear that up for me, cuz I don't get that.

  • @BBegnoche first of all when i hold hands with a guy in public that sort of stuff happens. sorry i didn't realize that needed an explanation. maybe i did over react but its just you dont really know whats its like until you have experienced it firsthand. i didn't mean to offend you, its just when people try and say that sort of stuff it got me a little worked up. i didn't mean to be a troll.

  • @ncPsychosis I agree completely

  • @BBegnoche women still dont have rights!!!!!!

  • @BBegnoche

    implying that women are human

  • I can't believe there is 100s of people talking about this little boy who during the interview looks completely brainwashed by his elders. Equal rights don't exist for everyone not just Gays. The only reason why this made the Mainstream news is they wanted to Brainwash more people into Homosexuality. Why did Fox Network run Family Guy, American Dad, Simpsons and I think King of the Hill in the same night. Where the main Topic was there Father's was experimenting with Homosexuality? Brainwashing!

  • USA is littered with weird little things like this. Remnants from times past (passed?). UK is quite similar. But they tend to cling to stuff like that. USA tries to be more progressive I think. I'm glad I don't have to deal with it, put it that way!

  • QUEER

  • I did the exact same thing at my school for the exact same reason and I got detention for it until I would say it. And guess what... I still didn't say it. "With liberty and justice for ALL" means EVERYONE!!! Not just straight people. So when I actually have the right to marry my boyfriend, then you'll hear me pledge. Til then, no. Not til EVERYONE has equal rights. Love me or hate me, but that's my stand and I'm sticking with it.

  • no this is not true!i beleive we should stand up do you know how long and hard we have fought for our country??????the least we can do is say the pledge and no kid in your class is wrong those teachers have a right to be pissed of at you...

  • Amen so true

  • im not saying the pledge anymore ifi my teacher tells meh to stand up im gunna say why should i im forced to do it when i dont want to its not a law to say it

  • I stop and turn around after the "to which it stands" line.

  • i haven't said the pledge in like a month and my teacher doesen't seem to care... then again he's never seen me not stand up so im not sure.

  • Comment removed

  • 1984 by george orwell 2 minuits of hate, any resemblance?

  • @TheGodofspeed The two minutes of hate is meant to keep everyone's bad thoughts directed at the enemy state and keep those thoughts from being directed at their own, thus lowering rebellious behavior. The pledge is meant to unite people with a pride of one's country, although it's now become very mechanical and meaningless. Totally different concepts.

  • Way to be! Great video!

  • I went to catholic school and we said the pledge (but got no guilt if we chose not to)

and we also had "morning prayer" that was more of a quiet time

  • your stupid

  • @doopt5 *you're

  • @doopt5 your stupid

  • @JacksonKovacs your stupid

  • @doopt5 YOURE STUPIDER THAN YOUR MOMS CHEST HAIR

  • @JacksonKovacs dude how is that good for him if he does not like this country go live some other country

  • @doopt5 its a pledge, you only have to say it once

  • @JacksonKovacs no it reminds you of all of those troops that died for all of these things so basicly what im saying is screw you for being a selfish little bastard

  • @doopt5 no your stupid we are proud of our flag from world war 1 to delawar to now!

  • Coolio

  • I never ever gave the Pledge a good read but now i realize i don't agree with it. I'm gonna say it tomorrow. Why commit to something when A.) It is not valid and B.) You do not believe in it?

  • I would totally not stand up and say it but, my homeroom teacher is a active army personel......so I really dont know why i wouldnt just not do it.

  • At my school we have to stand up and put our hand over our heart but we do not have to say the pledge. A sub freaked out on us and made us redo it cause, i honestly dont know why

  • @chickenzzzzzzzzz dude really? you don't think we care about them we do so get that through your thick skull but how would you feel if you were gay and couldn't marry the person you love or couldn't get a job because you were gay don't look at it from one way look at it from every angle you might just learn something

  • ok, dont honor the men and women who died so you can go on youtube and do this shit! equal rights? how bout you live in a alley and be forced to protect yourselves to stay alive.

    GO AHEAD, DISRESPECT YOUR SAVIORS

  • I never say the damn pledge, don't think I ever will.

  • Good for him for knowing that at such a young age.

You would think that people who are older (and what; With age comes Wisdom?) would realize the same thing...

Everyone should be able to love, believe, and think however they want to and not be persecuted.

  • ...it is really idol worshipping....

  • Until you posted this I never really gave it much thought...I guess its because growing up you just did it every day and never really took the time to study the words and learn the meaning.I can't remember ever having a history teacher actually teach the meaning of the pledge to me in all of my years in school. I just now re-read the words and realized that I really don't agree with it. Why should I be forced to say something for the sake of saying. I commend the boy for sticking up for himself

  • Until you posted this I never really gave it much thought...I guess its because growing up you just did it every day and never really took the time to study the words and learn the meaning. • wtf? I´v seen that on movies sometimes but seriously every morning u stand up an say that ?!!!!!!???? roflmao really ? please tell me thats joke? do u say it in every school or in only some special schools or something? whats the point on that anyway?

  • Funny...i was just thinking about this today...

  • I don't say the pledge because I don't claim my American heritage because of hoe the government here is with its people, but my German heritage is the one I truly love.

  • during homeroom the pledge and announcements are said and i refuse to stand up and say it cause it says "one nation under god".... i believe there is no "god" (:

  • say the swedish pledge of allegience

  • if you don't respect the country, get the fuck out. It's a personal choice? yeah, because you live HERE. So if you can't do the one simple fucking pledge of respect we are called upon, go live in africa you fucking faggot

  • @c0dead you're a prime example of the sort of dog-fucked god fearing fuckwits that are ruining this once somewhat great nation. do your country a favor and drown yourself in a lake, you sack of inbred genetic waste.

  • @P00PST0MP When was this nation ever somewhat great?!

  • @zemozzer when it was a matter of unbridled forest, land and lake and not a gridlocked haze of concrete boundaries.. prior to 1492, basically -- before the infestation of the living dead began to bloom.

  • I don't think you're getting the point here.

No pledge of allegiance is real, if it isn't given of one's own free will.

Try requiring your son to say that he loves you, in order to be allowed to live under your roof. Would you believe that love?

If you feel you have to express yourself by saying the pledge, good for you.

But if you don't feel it honestly, I would prefer your honesty.

  • If you're standing to respect your country every day, your country should respect you and not look down on you because you're LGBT.

Protect marriage...by letting people who love each other marry. (:

    LOVE IS LOVE; SHARE IT

  • Go to a forign country and ask your self why people are afraid to fuk with you. It,s because they are terrified the U.S.MARINES will come after them and blow their world away. You disrespect My counrty and every thing America stands for you blood sucker

  • @bddogak

LOL!!!!!!!!! Oh we're not narcissistic or anything are we???? :)

  • @bddogak

oh and people will probably take you a little more seriously if you can actually spell 'foreign." :)

  • Luckily, I'm from Canada so I've never had to say it.

  • @TheRimDoctor just wait until NAU comes to realization your ass will be reciting any pledge or Cheer the corporations want you to or your ass will starve in the new world order

  • @godscuttingyoudown lol nope. I live on an island in the North Atlantic in a town of 80. In the case of corporate takeover, I'll laugh at the inane impracticality. Starve? I'm not in an American City you ignorant bastard(And NWO doesn't exist, sleep happily), because places other than the fucked up United States exist, you see. Since we can only be reached by Ferry, if anything happens, we'll just light up our pipes, drink our screech and play accordion for another 500 years.

  • Hey you're cute! :) Don't listen to autobotpike or any other person like him, you're really cool!

  • i don't know id ANY of you know this but this poor boy lost his life to his own hands thanks to idiots and bullies. god bless him and his family

  • @autobotpike

It must suck to be SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO hateful. God must be proud.

  • The pledge is a way of showing your devotion to this country. Whatever country you live in, there are ALWAYS going to be issues. Out of all the countries in the world, this one is by far the most tolerant, free and just. So because of a single issue, you say that it is ok to denounce the United States by NOT saying the pledge? Im sorry but I will glady sacrifice my life for the freedoms we have in this wonderful nation. Go to my channel and watch my 2 year old son say the pledge.

  • What good is a pledge if you have to be told to take it? If your heart doesn't cause you to express such a thing, be honest. I stand out of courtesy for others, but as of today, I have never pledged allegiance to anyone or anything. And my kids have me in their corner if they decide not to as well.

  • @avanzoer then go to a country your proud of

  • @avanzoer And I will bet you have never served your country in the military either. You don,t belong in my country, I agree with autobotpike. People like you suck the blood of our fallen soldiers, reap the benifits of their sacrafices and then go to their funerals and chant sick slogans to their bereaved loved ones. I am willing to bet your children are either gay or secretly ashamed of you. I hope that you suffer the death of a loved one soon.

  • @bddogak

You hope others suffer the death of loved ones? I think Satan is among us folks. Nice.

  • I am so proud of him, too!! :) YEA WILL!!!!!!!!

  • @wookie37 Proud of what? a stinking coward who has never once done anything for a country that has lavished freedom upon him and alowed him to raise a family without fear that they will be put in a gulag. You and he should be sent to North Korea

  • @bddogak have you ever seen north koreans pledge? they sound just like you, a bunch of jingoistic pawns. the great thing about the united states is the fact we can choose to say the pledge or not. "i may not agree with what you say but i'll defend to the death your right to say it."

  • @j321234 thats the first amendment

  • @bddogak btw, how american is it to exile someone because of their beliefs? somebody has to learn how the government works....

  • We say the pledge and have a moment of silence at our high school too - I think we used to be forced to do it. Like if we were walking through the halls during the morning announcements, we had to stop and say the pledge in the middle of the hallways. RIDICULOUS! But lately I think they've made it opitional. Or at least at my school. My mom is even a teacher and she NEVER says the pledge hahaha.

  • @CrazyCarnival my school has us doing the pledge of allegiance too, as well as a moment of silence, and although i don't say the pledge i do participate in the moment of silence because it's for our troops who have died. but i never recite the pledge either, only thing is most ppl don't notice because it's done during 1stperiod and there aren't many people in my 1sst period... like, 3 of us lol.. and they don't say it for their own reason. and neither of the teachers do either lol..idk y tho.

  • Comment removed

  • Why this would be great if he actually did this of his own free will- I have a sneaking suspicion his parents put him up to this so they can pretend he's "gifted".

  • You cock sucker stfu I hope u run into a real American... I dare you to say this shit... watch him kick the shut out of you

  • @WTF5930 the kids right, but I do have the freedom of speech to say STFU YOU BiTcH freedom also says that you don't have to say the pledge!

  • @joshtemplin3 You don't have to say it but you should say it. Being disrespectful to the nation that allows you the freedoms that you enjoy is just small minded, selfish and immature. If you have any maturity at all you can find a way to express your disagreements in a way that is not insulting to the whole nation. If you don't know how to do that then you are either very young or just not very smart. The kid in question is very young and very wrong in how he goes about making his statement.

  • @WTF5930 and lots of people think gays are wrong in all. what u think is wrong isn't always right

  • @ectamar Yeah it is too!!!

  • Refusing to say the pledge is disrespectful and is not an appropriate way to express your political views regarding gay rights. We all enjoy so much about our lives in this nation and we take so many of our freedoms for granted. I don't think one issue that you disagree with should override all of the other good things you enjoy about life in the United States. Stand up, put your hand over your heart, and say the pledge. Find another way to express your views on gay rights. You have that option.

  • @WTF5930 people don't only not say the pledge because of gay rights and political views, but also religious views. I think that the pledge should be changed in a manner that separates church and state. to add to not saying the pledge for political views, protests have many different forms, and i feel that refusal to going with what you're told to do is a great way, so long as no one gets hurt. and above that, one of our rights is the freedom of speech, which includes silence.

  • @ectamar I can see your point to a certain extent. It's just that to me the flag represents everything this nation stands for, and the whole is greater than any single issue. Why can't you say "I disagree with the no gay marriage thing but I still love this nation"? Everyone has this, that, or the other that they think is wrong and should be changed and we have the right to say so. But, to disrespect everything the nation stands for because we are passionate about one issue is just not right.

  • we should say the pledge. granted its unfair for gays and they shouldnt have to say what they dont agree with but its honoring our great country

  • even though the video is kinda serious and all... but OMG I just couldn't stop looking at you! you're like, THE most handsome guy I've ever seen. and you're talking about something that is not shallow!! OMGGGGG!! do you wanna marry me ? *-*

  • no country is perfect, but in opinion, america is the best one there is. sure, there may not be complete equality for gays but in so many other ways we have made great advances. we're the most racially diverse country there is and racism is not tolerated here. in contrast, france still has a ways to go. in any case, its pretty selfish to disrespect the flag that so many hold dear. As a minority who enjoys equality under the flag, I don't sympathize with you bashing it.

  • @DarkestFaerie99 actually, the united states is a republic.

  • if you dont want to say the pledge dont say it but still stand up and show respect.

  • @CoolTimesWithEli123 or You can move.

  • @CoolTimesWithEli123

I will stand or not stand whenever and however I choose. And I invite you to do the same.

  • That boy should deserve more than just the front cover of CNN.

  • You're right, nobody should have to like or appreciate our country. Nobody should have to think that the policies it was founded upon are worth defending. If you think that your tiny discrepancy with the United States of America is worth with holding respect, honor and dignity to her soil, people and past, then you have ever right to do that. If your problesm with the Supreme Court or congress extend to the very land, principles and Constitution, nobody will force you to extend respect.

  • really if you love your country technically you dont have to say the pledge every morning at your school its not like your going to become a terrorist which is probably what they think

  • True, well said :)

Were I asked to recite something similar here at my Australian high school I'd deny on religious grounds - I don't believe in giving my allegiance to any human ruler. These sorts of objections were a big deal back in mid-20th century America, and people were sadly persecuted because of it. I'm glad I live today in a much more tolerant society - not perfect, true, but better conditions than before :)

  • oh yeah! My homeroom teacher always says "with liberty and justice for some". She's my favorite teacher! And ima start doing this now!

  • My science teacher this year started yelling at a kid in my class bcuz he didnt wanna get up during the pledge. The first day he did it she just gave him a dirty look, but by the 3rd day she was bent over yelling in his face. He ended up geting like lunch detention or something for it which is just soooo wrong. I mean, it should b our decision, and what if we dont believe in god? I mean i have about 3 friends that dont but theyre forced to say it. So now we just stand and dont say anything.

  • Why do you assume every gay person is atheist and doesn't want a religious ceremony at their wedding. The Episcopal church is christian and they accept gay people. I know it doesn't sound like I do, but I accept gay people and support gay marriage. I just get mad at the liberal and atheist hypocrisy of only wanting freedom when it pertains to them while speaking out against that very thing. Also only wanting votes to count when something they like is voted in.

  • Yet atheists want to take away our right to worship.

  • Atheists will have to answer to God one day if they don't change their tune. Governments may let them off the hook but God won't. I'm not perfect by any means but I do believe and Jesus did say that accepting him as Lord and Savior is the only way to heaven. Give a thumbs down to this all you want atheists but I am not the one you will have to answer to when your time comes.

  • Most of this nation is christian.

  • I agree about racist threats against Obama being against the law but many of you liberals like to call anyone who doesn't bow down and worship Obama like you do racist. Part of what makes this country great is the right to dissent. Most of America doesn't support Obama anymore because of what he is trying to do to it.

  • I know I am going to get beat up for this but if you guys don't like America and its freedom then move. You want oppression and communism move to North Korea or Cuba. Gays are treated a lot better here than in other parts of the world. Like another poster said gays in parts of the middle east are stoned to death and that is allowed by the government too. We have passed equal rights and hate crime laws against that here. You don't like America then LEAVE. Most of us appreciate our freedom.

  • I pledge allegiance... TO MY BALLS! Fuck America. Equal rights my ass!

  • Should have said "I will start respecting this country when it starts respecting me".

  • I love this video! I don't say the pledge either, not because of this reason but I can add this reason to my list of reasons why I don't :P Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my country and I'm a nationalist and I take pride in the fact that I'm an American.

I just think the pledge is bullshit ;)

  • Im from Puerto Rico a common wealth, born and raised, we moved to US for some job(only reason)(i didn't want to) I started school and everybody standed up for the pledge I never heard of,anyway I think it's the most stupidest thing most ignorant thing in a country I have ever know of, It pisses me off because I don't give a shit about it and I don't think I should be obligated to do so, I dosen't make any sense, I fell like I dont have freedom and sucking americas dick every morning.

  • if someone doesn't agree with something, that is their right as an american to speak up. but if you don't like it and all you do is complain, then move. no one will ever be completely happy with their government.

  • was going to type something else because i thought you'd be headed in the direction of gays clashing with God in pledge of allegiance.

you did not, however, and such, i pre-emptively withdraw my remark.

however, as far as freedom and justice for all goes, i agree with dandotcom1989, in that in our country, we have it exceedingly well off compared to many other countries (the Middle East comes readily to mind). if gay people in our country are accosted, it's bigotry, not law & patriotism.

  • I'm gay and I don't agree with you. we have it SO much better in this country than LGBT people do in other places. that's what you're paying tribute to when you say the pledge.

  • In high school I was suspended for 4 days for not standing for the pledge. My reasoning? I dont believe that the U.S. doesnt respect me and others like me so why should I respect it?

  • I would always leave the classroom when they said the pledge, the teacher didn't mind.

  • @MaySin92

because when you look at the gay people in countries like say, Afghanistan, you'll notice that — oh wait, there are none, because they're usually stoned to death in public squares, or too terrified of such a fate to ever establish themselves as gay in the first place.

to be honest, it was a little disheartening to read your comment and i just had to respond. seems a lot of people in our country genuinely don't realize how well we have it here.

  • If I actually wasn't brainwashed in elementary school how people would say "America is the greatest" i wouldn't have stood up. but i was to naive, the old me.

This kid is a rebel and i support his cause and beliefs.

  • i got in trouble for not standing...first off i was born in Russia also i am a communist. also i hate the US gov.....and yet they threatened to suspend me from school

  • Okay communism is really looked down upon in this country and for good reason. Communism is not freedom. It has never worked, it has been very oppressive and a piece of crap. This nation will never accept communism. I'm sorry, but if you cannot accept that then go back to Russia.

  • get over yourself you little shit, this country has never been perfect from day one. the people that have believed in it over the years have tried to improve it so you and the arkansas kid should address the issues and try to fix the things you believe in, or you could always move to uganda..

  • THANK YOU!!!!! i agree with dean 1000%

also the pledge said with liberty and justice for all.....

    are gay people not liberated??

    are gay people not free??

do gay people not go to jail for justice??

    get your facts straight

  • Gay people may be free in the eyes of the law but still many people try to oppress us.

There are no half-truths to freedom and until everybody recognises homosexuals equality in every way you cant claim that we are free. That goes for any minority group.

The concept of a pledge is ridiculous too. People should not have to regurgitate other peoples opinions. If schools are going to make students say any pledge they should be given the opportunity to say their own.

  • @handwired90

While I agree that the concept of a hedonistically patriotic poem about America, to America, from America (or any other country's pledges) are not in fact the most thing ever, it's naive to believe that the government should be held responsible for a large number of individual people's opinions on gay people. Religion has a large portion of gay-haters' hearts, and that is (generally) not at all part of the government.

Plus, "freedom" in the pledge refers to law-given freedom.

  • Yes but we should not be forced by our government to approve of homosexuality. That is a freedom of choice since homosexuality goes against many people's religion and we have freedom of religion in this country. Don't like that then LEAVE.

  • You know what's ironic is I don't give a flying hamster about the pledge; it's never meant anything to me and probably never will. Since I'm in a drama club advisory we take all advantage of it and everyone tries to speak it the best. Oh those stage actors, they get crazy :D

  • Hot topic!

  • I never say the pledge, and I never stood up. There are a couple of teachers at my old school who wanted me to stand up all the time, and they'd force it upon me, but I never said it. I don't believe that we should stand up and say the pledge partly because of the same reason that kid said, and also because I personally don't believe in God and although there has been much debate on the God in the pledge, but I don't feel right saying it. I'm glad you're in favor of not standing up!

  • we say the pledge but barley ever "say it" O-o

  • If you want to get technical over the pledge...your nations pledge (I am Australian) goes beyond that of just the people who belong to the US of A. It extends to fairness and equality for all human beings which we won't achieve realistically, so the idea becomes much more of a goal you strive for to create a harmonious perspective. Challenging that has a point but can be damaging. Its a tough call, what do we challenge as a society and what do we let slide. We can't have out cake and eat it too.

  • "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands: one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

  • Yes, at my school, in Maryland, you're forced to stand up, but you don't have to say it. It can be incredibly disheartening to military personnel when people don't even stand. I agree, it should be a personal choice to stand, but the people who serve this country don't necessarily agree with the policies they make in Washington. So, one could argue, you're disrespecting all of America for something that legislators have decided to not do (equal rights).

  • i am so with that. ive always felt that we shouldnt have to say the pledge. its our personal choice to say it. and people who are atheist dont want to say "in god we trust" am i right? if im not comment

  • @twadew15 Just so you know Aethism is the newest of all major belief systems. Culturally people of every single race have had some idea of greater life and intelligence, that idea is then represented by the word God, sure it has differences in each race/culture. The point being man has started to rebell hardcore and say we are the top dog on our planet and possible the universe because WE have found out so much. The Pledge isn't the real issue, conformity is. Is it morally correct or not?

  • @watdeshit, atheism has been around since the beginnng of time. Atheists have always been looked down upon because they are of course kooks and they think they are smarter than everyone else even though they are really not. There are few of them in this world for a reason. There have been other religions but nothing has spread like christianity. Why?? Because it is the TRUTH.

  • You atheists also want to get a moment of silence removed too. Tell me, what about a moment of silence out of respect for our lost friends or whoever is religious?? You don't have to pray to anyone.

  • um...quick thing...before you start saying things at least make sure you know what you are talking about. im a christian buddy. i believe in the bible and what it says. but i also feel that we shouldnt force our religion on other people. i also believe that gay isnt a choice and that god wouldnt condem his own creation to hell for acting how he created him/her.

  • You do know the atheists are wanting to force their beliefs on us right??

  • i know this....but i dont care what they think...i only care about what i think. reason being is that we live in a nation of freedom. if you want to think that the bible is made up then go ahead. more room in paradise for us.
