robotnik never tricked knuckles there was no tricking death egg crash lnded on floating island , sonic bangs into knux n takes the emralds n sonic chases him reason why knux has short cut levels and sometimes ends up ahead of sonic. sonic n knux is taking place at same time ,, sonic rushing to hidden palace/ death egg crash site u see it in background hidden palace, knux too is rushing there n defends master emerald n then sonic n knux team up

The only gripe I had with this game was how short it was,sonic 2 had twice the amount of levels,thanks for clearing that up

I agree with a lot of folks Sonic 3 is good. But to me it felt way too short due to the reasons mentioned by Kevin. I feel I'm the only who notices the obvious quality improvement when moving on to Sonic & Knuckles. I do think it would have been awesome if they had released it as a single game but also I would definitely get rid of some stuff in Sonic 3 before combining them.

@fiddlebender88 There's 2 problems with that, 1 they wanted to get it out for the holiday season, a lame reason yes but the other reason is much bigger. If the two were combined into 1 cart it'd have been over 120 dollars at the time because of how much space it'd take up on a cart.

You were able to change between Sonic and Tails in Sonic 2 also. You just had to go into the hidden options menu

You can also choose between only Sonic or only Tails in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. It's just that many people miss the option because when you have to press the down button to get to it. The option is off-screen at first.

i think in hindsight sonic and knuckles was an interesting and good move, cause yes it would've been nice to see all that in sonic 3, but sonic 3 is already pretty jam packed,(ha, "jam") and they probably wouldn't have thought of the sonic 2 and knuckles idea then now would they? ;)

By the way SEGA wanted to put Sonic & Knuckles in the same cartridge as Sonic 3, but the hardware available at the time did not allow for such a thing. So it's not a tactic from SEGA, it's hardware limitation.
