Camera body is $17,500. You need a lens, LCD screen, batteries, media to make the camera complete. Figure on another $3,500 at the very least to get up and running. You could spend $50k or more with matte box, follow focus, RED drives, multi battery chargers, lens sets, tripod, filters, etc etc.
This camera is $58,000 naked. With all that stuff this guy puts on it, easily $65,000. The battery charger alone is $1,500. This is a real professional camera. James Cameron order 50 of them. However, believe it or not, for what it can do it is a really good value. Lesser cameras used in Hollywood usually go for over $100,000.
It uses 128gb sd cards i believe which hold hmmm...32 hours of hd video each? im really not sure but it defiantly doesnt use tapes, come out of the 90s bro
@thevideodrome1 The Red camera is a little over-kill for a wedding. With a basic camera package and insurance it's about $2,000-$3,000 to rent per day. The body alone weighs about 25 pounds so it's not the most maneuverable camera. You're going to need several batteries and a ton of memory cards. You're better off recording a wedding on a Panasonic HVX 200 or Sony EX3.
hey man. you seems to know alot about camaras. at least this 1. i am looking for a new good camara. how expencive is this camara and how would you rate it compared to price. and is the quality of the video good?
WEAK I WANT ONE THAT CAN DO 400000.00000 FRAME'S AND IS 20000. MEGA PIXEL FOR 200 BUCK'S SO IM GOING TO MAKE IT MY SELF. AND THEN HOPE FULLY FILM ME A MY FEW CHIAIR WIFE FUCKING IN HIGH DEF. AND THEN GIVE OUT ALL TE INFOO ON HOW TO MAKE IT FROM SCRACTH AND TAKE OUT THE MONEY FACTER IN IT.
Plzz help, im thinking of buying a red one, but if you put a lens on it will it still be able to auto focus ? and how do you connect your red one to the pc?
@grapehimself oh then thatsa cool, i got surprised when i saw the red one for the first time, but they all have different rigs, i didnt know it was a personal design, any wahy, the camera is epic, i mean digital cinema dquality, not even on tapes, like fully digital, and has a nice apperancce, lol'z im gonna get this instead of a car, lol'z i cant offord one of these, im mexican, jk, nice video, its nice to see a red up closed in person
@javieralza haha Im only 19 and i maxed out 9 credit cards and my life savings to get this. It pays for itself tho because i rent it out to local businesses to film commercials.
@grapehimself so you do good, well lucky, if i had a red i would so max it out, how can i make rigs, cause i dont know where to get the stuff, cause i wanna make a rig for a sony a1u, where can i get he custom hood, if its coustom and the rails, i can go from there
@javieralza Try cinevate.com they might have what your looking for. Go to products than linear tracking systems. Theres all kinds of other things you might find useful there too
@grapehimself well like the website you showed me, the hoods, but do you know but can you make it your own, or is it better to get a full package, and if i make a rig, is the camera more comftorable to work with???
@javieralza If i were you i would just save up for a full package. You will definitely love having a rig to work with because youll be able to get smooth shots that are immpossible without a track. Which would make it more comfortable for you also. Making your own rig is very easy. I made one myself and is working out great for me.
@grapehimself well thats cool, do you have a video of it??? oh and i cant do the rig soon, i might change mind later, i mean im bearly getting in to all of this im 14, and i love everything about fillming, ive seen tips on youtube, and they look like they will help, but not much, so i might take film class in college cauyse they dont have them in my school, but im exited, thanks for the links, ill probably be using them maybe in 5 years when im out of school thanks
@javieralza I see. Well im glad to see that your interested in the art of film making. I started out making films without a camera, but with my head. Than i got my first camcorder for christmas at age 13, but i wanted more, so i saved my money and bought an hd camera which i used for awhile. But it wasnt enough for me, so i dropped out of highschool to go to work to save enough for the Red One, i saved several thousands on my own than the rest on credit cards and finally got the Red One
@grapehimself me to, thats cool, i might get a red one, if i end up skilling ujp on my filming cause my old edits were on movie maker, very cheap and not carefully done, im starting a new show, ill send you a link ok, but i hope i have calling for filming, if i dont o well that would suck, but im having fun with my camera, its a canon gl1, old but good, i love filming, its EPIC!!!
@grapehimself oh, ok, then thats something good to know, ill start out with my camera, well kinda, starting out kinda big, not hd but profesinal just steping up the show, and my filming
Can you watch 4K with Blu Ray? I only ask because the majority of tv sets are 1080p so it wouldnt be worth shooting in that extra resolution if the tv's of today cant even pick them up.
hi! I am from INDIA, and searching for a RED one 4k or 3k. I searched their website but there no price listed. I think you can help me becoz you own one of it. actualy I want to know its actual price. will you tell me please? our INDIAN currency is INR46=1dollar.
The red one is a bit overrated. I've been tweaking my setup for months ( about to upload a new video I shot at coney island this week) For under 2K I've created something that could definitely trick someone into thinking its film. The red one looks more broadcast. It still will always come down to optics. That's my secret. You all shoot on the same things/rigs, all the work looks the same.. Is 4K necessary? unless you have a 700 foot screen?
I only can say, I'm a producer and I love 35mm, but for some reason, I have a RED ONE, it is far cheap to edit, and work with, and the directors, like to use it, and the client like the resoult. I belive 35mm will be allways there, but digital is going to be the next step.
The Red One records in 4K. That's 4096 x 2048 pixels, which is about 4x the resolution of HD (4K refers to the number of horizontal pixels, in this case 4096).

No. not as good as 35mm film. You can still see it's video, it just looks like expensive video.

@Ronnelsky I would not say it's over rated but filming digital is different then film. And even every digital camera is different. RED ONE is Ultra HD so when we get Uttra HD TV's and monitors it's realling going to pay off.
Sony and Panasonic might film a little better in low light. But those cameras are only 1080p not Ultra HD like RED ONE.

@ChinnTV "A 16 GB card can hold around 8 minutes of 4K footage or 34 minutes of 2K footage". So with 128gb SD - 64minutes, ~ 1 hour only.

4k is the number of pixels wide the camera records
your normal camera records 1k or 2k max (NORMAL CAMERA)
thagonzp 2 years ago
What? which school did you go for film?
no camera records in 1k because 1k is not a real format.
and only a few camera's, like the Viper, Arri and Cinealta record on 2k.
oh and it's not 4k as in 4000, it's actually 4096.

RawPower 2 years ago
@RawPower what is 4k? i dont know what that is
sardo97 2 years ago
4k, is 4000 pixels
1080p is 1080 pixels
35mm film is the equivalent (depending on the film stock used) of 4000-8000 pixels
which means Red is MUCH closer to film resolution than 1080p (or i)
wikipedia - Red Digital Cinema Camera Company - for an image showing scale
RawPower 2 years ago
The Red One records in 4K. That's 4096 x 2048 pixels, which is about 4x the resolution of HD (4K refers to the number of horizontal pixels, in this case 4096).

It's as good and better than 35 mm. And you can't tell it's video when you see Jumper, Knowing or District 9, right?
and no, the Canon camera's don't look nearly as good as this thing does. I've used them all, and the red is way better.
breakcoma7 2 years ago
better than 35mm? I think not.
Jumper Yes, Knowing yes, but not distric 9 because of all the brown earth tones.
Digital doesnt capture light specularities like film does. Sin city would look so much better shot film.

@fourth1000 Agreed on the Sin City part. My reasoning for saying that it's better than film is because of post production cost and quickness.
