Camera body is $17,500. You need a lens, LCD screen, batteries, media to make the camera complete. Figure on another $3,500 at the very least to get up and running. You could spend $50k or more with matte box, follow focus, RED drives, multi battery chargers, lens sets, tripod, filters, etc etc.

This camera is $58,000 naked. With all that stuff this guy puts on it, easily $65,000. The battery charger alone is $1,500. This is a real professional camera. James Cameron order 50 of them. However, believe it or not, for what it can do it is a really good value. Lesser cameras used in Hollywood usually go for over $100,000.

@thevideodrome1 The Red camera is a little over-kill for a wedding. With a basic camera package and insurance it's about $2,000-$3,000 to rent per day. The body alone weighs about 25 pounds so it's not the most maneuverable camera. You're going to need several batteries and a ton of memory cards. You're better off recording a wedding on a Panasonic HVX 200 or Sony EX3.

@javieralza If i were you i would just save up for a full package. You will definitely love having a rig to work with because youll be able to get smooth shots that are immpossible without a track. Which would make it more comfortable for you also. Making your own rig is very easy. I made one myself and is working out great for me.

Than i got my first camcorder for christmas at age 13, but i wanted more, so i saved my money and bought an hd camera which i used for awhile. But it wasnt enough for me, so i dropped out of highschool to go to work to save enough for the Red One, i saved several thousands on my own than the rest on credit cards and finally got the Red One

Can you watch 4K with Blu Ray? I only ask because the majority of tv sets are 1080p so it wouldnt be worth shooting in that extra resolution if the tv's of today cant even pick them up.

The red one is a bit overrated. I've been tweaking my setup for months ( about to upload a new video I shot at coney island this week) For under 2K I've created something that could definitely trick someone into thinking its film. The red one looks more broadcast. It still will always come down to optics. That's my secret. You all shoot on the same things/rigs, all the work looks the same.. Is 4K necessary? unless you have a 700 foot screen?

I only can say, I'm a producer and I love 35mm, but for some reason, I have a RED ONE, it is far cheap to edit, and work with, and the directors, like to use it, and the client like the resoult. I belive 35mm will be allways there, but digital is going to be the next step.

your normal camera records 1k or 2k max (NORMAL CAMERA)

Digital doesnt capture light specularities like film does. Sin city would look so much better shot film.

@Ronnelsky I would not say it's over rated but filming digital is different then film. And even every digital camera is different. RED ONE is Ultra HD so when we get Uttra HD TV's and monitors it's realling going to pay off.

Sony and Panasonic might film a little better in low light. But those cameras are only 1080p not Ultra HD like RED ONE.
