It's simply Oldskool Rave, or 'Ardcore if you like.

It certainly wouldn't have been called house or trance back then.

Trance was very different at around that time.

It makes me think of some modern pop music being labelled as 'Electro' when obviously Electro is a genre in it's own right as an offshoot of Hip Hop.

I love it that Zomby has released this sound though. I don't know if he calls it Dubstep or not though.
