  • lol stephens laugh: HAHAHAHA, OH, OH !

  • Oh my, Stephen's trousers :)

But I do think I am more distracted by his laugh.

    Oh, Stephen you

  • 567259 XD

  • I stop reading comments on the clips of shows that I enjoy/are funny from this website because the morons that decide to leave their comments ruin the laughs that I was enjoying. I just happened to read this one for god knows what reason and couldn't help but to leave a comment..

It's a joke folks. J-o-k-e. Like,"haha", you know? If you don't get it, just go away =)

  • GENIUS

  • LMAO!!!

  • HAHAHAHAHAHA they really are clever arent' they! :)

  • This is great, one of my favourite sketches!

  • JUst perfect:)

  • Brilliant!

  • It really makes me groan like hell when some really dull people see this kind of thing, turn around and say its not funny. I just think EXACTLY ITS NOT FUNNY THATS WHY ITS FUNNY. I mean the mistake is so unfunny but it sends them both into hysterics, Hugh Laurie saying I DONT BELIEVE IT like its a huge thing and Stephen Fry on the floor unable to breath through laughing. Then the announcer still giggling away "567359..Classic!!!!!" If you cant laugh along with something like this then LIGHTEN UP

  • well here i am

    =)

  • wow.

  • awesome!!

    look at the clothes!!

    xD

  • whoever ketnanuk is what an ass!

  • Just one aspect of this sketch can be called "local" humour, enjoyed only by Brits. The TV-based Open University began in the early 1970s, and immediately set itself the task of looking as hip as possible. The lecturers wore clothes that made you think they'd just stepped out of Yellow Submarine. Believe me (because I was there) they looked ridiculous EVEN THEN! The 70s is renowned for bad taste, but the OU professors were so bad they gave bad taste a bad name.

  • But the rest is obvious to anyone of any nation. You've seen those "outtakes" programmes, where the presenter finds the clips a lot more amusing than you do? Bet you have. Mostly it's actors forgetting their lines, and then saying "Oh, bugger!" (But endlessly, you know, as if a steady stream of actors forgetting their lines is so much funnier than just one.) So what's not to love about someone saying "567359" instead of "567395"? The fact that it isn't even funny is what's funny.

  • >>The 70s is renowned for bad taste, but the OU professors were so bad they gave bad taste a bad name

Oh, I dunno, watching people walk around today in pants that hang down below their butts is the height of bad taste and stupidity...

  • How can any reasonable man give a damn about what anyone else is wearing? Judging by the cover, are you? And who are you to tell anyone what to wear, anyway?

Or do you, by chance, mean the actual watching them is stupid? Not sure if you meant it like that, but at least it wouldn't be absolutely stupid statement ;-)

  • It's only the hair that looks silly... ; )

  • the joke is that the math lecturer's mistake isn't amusing in itself, but that all the characters find it hilarious anyway.

That and the great clothing :)

  • Hooo, that IS simplified!

  • haha love this!!

  • 0.567359... I don't believe it..

  • Thanks so much for the video! :)

  • Lmao, GENIUS.

  • Lmao!!!

"I don't beLIEVE it!" lol this is brilliant.

  • This is excatly my sense of humor. Their laughter, so exaggerate, so funny.

  • Hilarious!

    I love Stephen's bellbottoms.

  • Hugh throwing the chalk down and stephen on the floor...so great. I'm American, and 18 yrs old, and I got it. Brilliant.

  • lol omg. this is so great.

  • LOL

And I LOVE Stephen's trousers in this clip

  • I love how the chalkboard is completely not solid

  • have you never seen those rolling boards before, nothing especially remarkable

  • No, I haven't! Honestly.

  • In my university they can even be rolled by an electric motor!

  • This sketch is really funny.I love their clothes.I really wish they could have another season of ABOFAL.

    I pure love Hugh.

  • I love this sketch, I love Hugh and I love Stephen!!! ♥♥♥

    BRILLIANT!

  • SOOOOOOO FUNNY

  • I got the joke, but I didn't think it was half as funny as seeing Stephen Fry wearing those clothes... LOL! I <3 Stephen Fry, doesn't matter what he's doing, it makes me laugh.

  • "I didn't think it was half as funny as seeing Stephen Fry wearing those clothes..."

LOL. I totally agree! Seeing Stephen Fry in skintight white bell bottoms and a Brian May from Queen wig is comedy gold!

  • This sketch is way too funny. They really look cool in those outfits.I love the way Hugh does his part and the way he says"I don't believe it".

  • LOL Hugh reminds me of garth from waynes world in that sketch

  • definitely!

  • Yeah, I agree. I have always watched PBS and BBC America and loved the shows especially the comedies, but I have always been told I was a bit wierd. I was the only kid I knew who watched Dr Who. Mine was a lonely childhood. *sigh* ;-)

  • ahh this is sooo funny. I love fry and laurie.

    And british comedy rules!

  • a little gem...

  • haha awesome!

  • HAHAHAA

  • LMAO! That was awesome.

  • By the way, what I said above does NOT apply to non native speakers of English. 1 or 2 mis-understood words can make or break a joke so please do ask!

  • If you don't get a sketch, just go watch some other stuff for a while and then come back to it. Maybe even wait for tomorrow because it might come to you suddenly.Trust me, you'll laugh so much harder this way. Also, saves you the emabarassment of having to ask, saves me the embarassment of realizing 90% of the people asking because they don't get it are American...

  • does anyone else think that Stephen looks disturbingly good in those pants?

  • Yes

  • Oh. Yes. It seem that Stephen's pants are sort of painted upon his legs! OH YEAH! hahaha!

  • AHHHHH omg i effin luv this guy more then anything!!!! HE IS SOOOOO HOTT!!!!!

AND HIS VOICE IS SOO SEXY AND HE IS SOOO FUNNY!!

  • LMFAO!!

  • This sketch is perfection!

    More blood please waiter!

  • LOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

    Thats so funny x'DD

Thats the kind of comedy that I like o_o

  • Lol... I don't get it.

  • It's not a real blooper. They're paying out how people in other shows, show off bloopers that are *really pathetic* and not funny to anyone, and also bloopers where the tiny mistake is made huge.

  • fantastic brilliant scetch! my favorite!!!!!!!!!!! AWESOME! P.S. Hello from Moscow!!! 8D

  • I just love this kind of humour, its great ;D

  • That's hilarious. Fuck me.

  • That's great! I love it! Hugh is AWESOME!! Not sure what people are talking about with Americans not getting it - I got it just fine. LOL!!

  • Dog thats funny 567359 oh my funny funny funny.

  • i want that tie lol

  • OMG, that was histerical

  • lol 234897.41849873408824736893205359! No way! That is sooo obviously wrong!

  • these too are histerical

lol sooo funny seeing dr house with long hair lol

  • That is sssooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo funny!!!!

  • Fantastic!

  • That's a funny bloopuh.

  • This pure, absolute brilliance!

The announcer over-touting it is funny, (as are the clothes to anyone who actually lived through 1973). But the genius is in the (in reality dull as dishwater) transposition of "359" & "395" sending both men into such hysterical hilarity.

You don't have be a Brit, or to have seen "Open University" to get this. But you may have to be a nerd, or at least to have sat through many lectures like this.

The mathematics itself is pure nonsense: sweet icing on the cake :)

  • fucking genius

  • It odd numbers but i don't see what funny.

  • i`m german and that was by far the best video i`ve ever seen on youtube!

  • 567359 O_O

  • Hahah :D now that was great.. funny "blooper".

  • Can you explain me what the hell happened there ?!? :S plz

  • im portuguese, and i eat aples

  • mentiroso... é "apples" criatura do demo

  • bollucks

  • Excellent!

  • I DON'T BELIEVE IT :D

  • I'm American, and that was hilarious.

  • I absolutely agree with petkragh, I'm Spanish and I understand perfectly what the sketch is about!!! There's no need to explain it... Anyway, I love it :)

  • Can you explain me what the hell happened there ?!? :S plz

  • The maths-type guy (Hugh Laurie) reads the answer of the massive complicated sum out incorrectly, and since he's a mega nerd this sort of mistake is very silly indeed! Ha ha ha!!

  • I don't think there's anything particularly British or European about the humour in this sketch. Getting the joke or not doesn't really have anything to do with nationality.

  • This is my absolute favorite one.

  • It's fantastic on every level, almost perfect. I know what happens and I still laugh out loud every time I watch it. Lawrie is superb, his facial expression at 53 seconds is perfect, the way he throws the chalk is brilliant.

If you haven't seen the Open university programs of the 70's because you are either non-UK or too young then I don't think you would get it the same.

  • Laurie, not Lawrie

  • sorry to be a bitch, but i'm pissing myself at the people who don't get it. you've got to be american !

  • I'll say it again, your sense of humor and your country of birth have nothing to do with each other. Personally I always thought highly of Europeans until I saw how many UK people here are throwing around nationalistic prejudiced comments just because a couple of people (who never said where they were from) looked too deeply into one sketch. I guess that's proof positive that smug arseholes live everywhere, including all those well-cultured and 'superior' countries.

  • i actually meant you had to be american because of the subject matter.man alive, chill out.

  • one word - 'satire'

    look it up Yanks.

  • sorry to be massivley bigoted and generalising but i assume those of you who "dont get it" are american.... what makes the sketch is the fact that something barley amusing is held up by the presenter as hilarious, its basically taking the piss out of those lazy shows and the idiots who front them.

  • I'd like to think that people that don't "get it" due to young age or simply an underdeveloped sense of humor, rather than their country of birth.

  • that's the right explanation. nothing to do with your nationality. I'm not a native english speaker and I got it from the beginning.

  • But humor most likely is all from the environment you've been created out of, thereby making America a bad place for humor :P

  • Please, don't explain jokes to the people that don't get it, it ruins it for the people that did get it. And the ones that didn't get it will never find it funny anyway. Amazing sketch, the clothes are cool!

  • I think the people who don't "get it" are just looking too deeply into it, thinking it's more sophisticated than it actually is. They aren't "stupid Americans", they are just used to a different kind of humour. Prehaps they are expecting it to be funnier than it actually is and so think they missed something when they didn't.

  • I'm an american. I got it. Those who don't may be american, they may not get this type of humour, they may be looking too deep into it, but they are not, by any means, not getting it becuase they are American. It's like saying that I don't know what a penis is becuase I'm female.

  • American and got it just fine, thank-you. Stupid people are everywhere, not just here. That and some people may be thinking that the actual joke is too "obvious" and they're looking for a real "meaning" behind the 359.

  • my opinion (plz correct me if i'm wrong): there's no significance to 359 - this isnt' a real blooper, it's a sketch that's funny because fry and laurie are laughing at this gigantic numeric answer as if it's an "obviously wrong answer," except none of us know what the "obviously correct answer" is unless we're all geniuses.

  • yeah that's what i thought it was.

I'm american and i got it!

  • What does it mean, I thought about it and seen the clip many times I still don't understand.

  • lol

  • 359...any special meaning? hard to figure this out...anyone give some clue?

  • 359 hahahaha one of my fav ABoFaL clips...

  • Oh god... their hair... and the bellbottoms... *dies*

  • Oops, I meant exaggerating.

  • Can anyone explain to me what went wrong? I don't get it... =\

  • They're parodying blooper shows. Usually on those kind of programmes, large mistakes are made, but here they're exagurating the effect of a small mistake. It's funny because their reactions are completely over-proportionate.

  • Thanks!

  • man when im uiet i mutter 359 and start laughing uncontrolably

oh and once on a math thin that was the answer and i started laughing so hard and i got in so much trouble

  • Awesome

  • lMAO - one of their best :-)

  • I've been looking for this clip for about 11 years now!!!! Thanks for posting it, really made my day!

  • :D

  • That's because you're stupid, chum.

  • I'm not stupid I just don't understand it.

  • Yes, crazy you.

  • uh.. crazy me I have watch this over and over again I don't get it.

  • How can you not get it?

  • OMG, look at Stephen in the white pants. He looks like Tiny Tim!

  • LOL! HE DOES!

  • lmao

  • three-five-nine!! my twin brother and i used to say that as an in-joke-way to laugh and make other people feel left out! genius! (3-5-9, jean-luc!)

  • LMAO

  • ohmygod! gotta love the chaps! :D

  • lmao that was the funniest staged "blooper" i've ever seen.
