  • fucking assholes giving respectable people a bad name.

  • LOL @ the dog in the back of the truck @ 4:00

    LMFAO

  • Fucking worthless RedNecks.

  • These idiots make sustainable living away from government slavehoods a horrible seeming thing. Living in shitholes with a bunch of unstable people will scare the sheep deeper into the arms of tyrannical governments, when weighing options as society collapses further.

Watch videos from "solar cabin", now that guy gives "off the grid" living a proper look.

  • Driving into town for bottled water is not "living of the grid".

  • The hills have eyes!!!

  • this is anti off-grid propaganda, to turn off the sheeple from trying it.

IC dot org has much better examples of off-grid living, anywhere in the world you want. There are communities for every flavor.

  • i am going to wash. state to live in woods...it would be free..dom..

  • These people have a sort of low life aura about them.

  • To hell with a government that thinks they can lock up their people indefinitely without a fair trial and a jury of peers. I am no terrorist and would kill anyone on the spot if I knew they were one no doubt, but our constitution says they have a right and are innocent until proven guilty in the court of law. The hippy dude swears allegiance to our constitution he is cool with me!

  • I say if u wanna live so far out in the desert that you have to haul your own water you live in a shack and don't bother the rest of the world let em do whatever they want. It is 400 people out of 6 bil plus to hell with your laws and government restrictions! They choose to live there in the middle of bfe.

  • americas most wanted could clean house with these low lifes

  • The down side of living off grid.

  • I might watch this doc if it did not feature rejects from the movie Wrong Turn.

  • these guys rule!!

  • HAHA im in law enforcement and I agree to there way of living. At least if they rape someone you can take that rapist out back and put his lights out. Aint waisting tax payers money to feed them in jail. But i do agree. They all need to make money doing something other then pot. Its like the Whites of West Vergina. No education for the youngsters.

  • Oh my god! The Hills DO have eyes!

  • @TheSepticrat LOL!

  • I bet the people making these negative comments...never even watched the whole movie. Now who's lazy?

  • lol too funny

  • How do they support themselves?? Sorry but these guys are scary people!

  • @snaps81625 I agree....these people look like ex-cons and drug dealers......I am not getting that neo-hippy, love all, vibe from any of them

  • @inkey2

Enlighten me... what exactly does an ex-con or drug dealer look like?

The most vicious, destructive criminals in the world wear suits and own corporations... and look no further than BIG PHARMA for the world's nastiest drug dealers.

  • @whoissunsetter they look like these dudes

  • Cracker heaven!

  • Comment removed

  • Ok but where are the girls?! I agree its hard to live with them, but you also can't live without them :)

  • to law enforcement to have them forceably evicted and the whole area burned. After all it is a public health hazard. You don't dial 911, you dial .357? Better watch your step. and your mouth. I'm sure there are a lot of people in law enforcement that would love the opportunity to drop the hammer on a bunch of squatters for just such a reason. you would be best advised to keep your mouth shut and crawl back into the hole from whence you came.

  • After all someone has to go in with bulldozers to clean up this mess and judging from the fact that mesa has been twice rebuilt it will probably happen again in the near future once locals or law enforcement catch wind of this video. How nice to have your face plastered on this documentary smoking pot, shooting trash, living like a pig. i'll bet dollars to doughnuts that land is BLM land or it belongs to someones ranch for grazing cattle. i know if it was my land i would be on the hotline--

  • with a junkyard / dump then a off the grid commune or settlement. It's obvious that rodent problems must be endemic with any type of proper cleanleness or hygine highly suspect. No drinking water without hauling it in represents a problem all it's own, particularly in the New Mexico desert. These people don't remind me of old time survivalists, rather squatters illegally setting up "housekeeping", (and I use that term loosely) on someone elses property at someone elses, or tax payer expense.--

  • This is not my idea of living off the grid... most of thes people appear to be homeless misfits and the refuse of society... sorry just my first impression. if you notice, at the start of this video one man says "twice rebuilt baby- thats mesa" this implies that the community was probably destroyed either by the park service or by the rightful land owners- And for good reason i might add. the living conditions are disgusting there is trash and broken cars everywhere with much more in common -

  • These people need to grow crops and get some solar panels or wind turbines going. This is not like getting out there and trying to live right. They seem more like lazy homeless people to me. The trash everywhere is ridiculous. They could atleast bunr it or make use of it some how. I think people can do far better than this.

  • i get it living off the grid would be cool but why can't these people at least pic up there trash and not live like fucking pigs.

  • @1robinsong

'as far as i can see, the dOmestic enemy is the one doing most of the damage now a days'

    greetings from Iran

  • This is not off the grid living, it's "fuck if I care living". Very far apart in definition.

  • These people are just a bunch of children that never grew up. I'll be surprised if any of them live to see 60.

  • What a mess they have made, and I sure would be worried about them having guns to play with. Very weird people.

  • This makes me not want to live off grid, lol.

  • whats crazy is I live out here in new mexico and from what I can tell... this is probly the future of the country if we dont pull our heads out of our asses. even though it seems like a peaceable society, it has its problems too. these are mostly homeless hippie unselfsustaining types. I know someone that lives off the grid with solar panels and he doesnt live this bad. he has his own crops and what not.. it is possible in a better way.

  • This is Mad Max 3: Return of the Rednecks!

  • WTF???

  • this is the coolest shit ever

  • I've watch the entire thing on another site. Do not relate this to living off grid. These are lazy ass bums that collect disability and have food donated into them so they don't die. Homeless not off grid. Thumbs down.

  • @TheShadowlocker There is no way to survive off the grid in that place...food is no where...they must get some type of funding

  • how does one get internet "off the grid", and I would not want to be off of any grid where everyone runs around with guns. everything else i see there i can get into

  • One of the last things I would do on planet earth is to fuck with these guys.

  • Definately rough around the edges folks. Fine. Off the grid for them meens escaping the grid of the cityscape and materialism and living with some elbow room apparently. Yes, they got disfunction, but who doesn't? How are these guys any different from a shut in who makes a living stuffing envelopes and runing/ Hosting web BBS's?

I want to see the rest of this mister censor.......

  • why live of the grid to live like a slob and ruin your stuff? because you can?

  • Off the grid living is about living off the land and not leaving a carbon foot print. This isn't off the grid living, this is just a few red necks living in a small junk yard.

  • @DustinsReality lol off the grid can have more than one meaning especially since there are several things/ideas that are described as grids.

  • You don't have to be a psycho angry person to do off grid living. Pls don't let these boring angry crazy individuals to define what off grid living is. I don't 'see these ppl as doing anything positive. Are they planting a garden or just shooting their guns?

  • this motherfuckers are living the fallout 3 life hehehehehehe

  • Does anybody here have any updated information about Maine, the veteran with cancer? If you do, please leave me a comment or something. Thanks.

  • that wasnt my idea of living off the grid that was just inbred dirty wow..

  • rename this to "Living in a shit hole"

  • this seems like a great documentary. im not trying to say i am like them but this is some interesting shit i mean these guys live in the middle of nowhere and fucking love it.

  • I think the slobs in this film have confused living off the grid with living like homeless people. Clean up your shit!

  • There's off-grid living, and then there's redneck living. This would be the latter. :-)

  • whats wrong with cleaning the place up?

  • and on the part of the constitution.finally some one else thinks like i do.every one of them sum beach in congress.should be shot of treason.they DO NOT DEFEND OUR CONSTITUTION.they are destroying it.Take moonshine for instance the IRS can make revenue off it so they make it illegal.OUR GOVERNMENT OUR FREAKING LIARS.AND THEY STEAL AMERICAN BLIND

  • There is way to much Government control,Everything to day is about money, your life and mine has a price tag on it.They do not want people living off the grid because the gov doesn't get revenue off them.A time is coming when people will have to live this way.You may laugh but how will people manage when there is no food in the stores.how will you live when the electric goes out permanently.Go to a restaurant when the electric goes off.you can pay for your meal cause the cash register goes out

  • This way of life is what our founding father started.when If you go back and look at the history of old Europe,When Columbus and the Europeans came to this country there where no laws.In Europe there was over taxation just like to day.think about this in the 1700 people then thought it strange to live in a city.the native Americans lived with the land. Now in today time we think people are drug runers are lazy because there are fed up with the way this country is ran today

  • anybody know where you can watch the whole film?

  • These people look more like old-time survivalists rather than the new breed of educated urbanites going off grid for the sake of the planet. If you dig weed, firearms and schizophrenia, these folks are for you, but some of us can do better than that.

  • @IClausius

Yeah, it's called a live aboard boat in the Caribbean. A nice Catana 40' Catamaran.

  • @IClausius

    I resemble that remark!

Let's party and survive at the same time.

  • @IClausius yeah, it looks like they took "Mad Max" seriously.

  • @IClausius but we can still have weed though...right?

  • @IClausius >implying having an education will help you out there

    urbanites? lol, good luck.

  • @demetriansemiotics An education would certainly help them more than not having one. Well, maybe not that specific community but any off grid community that also wants moderate to high quality of life instead of just meaking out a pathetic and dirty existence.

  • @IClausius I don't know about the schizophrenia, but ain't nothin' wrong with a lil' weed and firearms. ;p

  • the hills have eyes

  • This must have been the town that Ellis came from

  • I hope you assholes are not getting government checks.

  • No more than a desert ghetto. Nothing remarkable here, other than they moved a trailer park and all of its associated vileness to the desert. No preparation for the coming collapse; no gardens, no livestock, no water wells, not even a rain-capture system. No solar or wind power. The aerial view says it all, just a garbage dump along with a few misfits who, believe it or not, made a conscious choice to "live" that way.

  • This is not efficient off the grid living. You have to have your priorities in order and not trash where you live.

  • Comment removed

  • 'Off-grid?' Totally dependent upon the automobile...and oil. At least as portrayed - as it is now. And yes, Black Sun - in agreement. Why not strive to increase one's consciousness as part of going off-grid? "Weapons," trashing things, and doing nothing to live 'with' the land - where is the consciousness here?

  • 'Off-grid?' Totally dependent upon the automobile...and oil. At least as portrayed - as it is now. And yes, Black Sun - in agreement. • Lol, If you hauled your trash out there would be nothing left!

  • Just a spam attempt

  • This is all good & well BUT at any point & at any time if the gov should so decide they could swoop in & take out all of these people. So the question really so much isn't whether you could survive out there or live off the grid but are you willing to die or fight to defend your right to live life as you see fit. Our gov has betrayed us but as Waco demonstrated as long as you live here you will never ever be free. That will only come when we take back our gov from lying poloticiancs.

  • peace

  • I know I haven't watched the full movie, but living off the grid doesn't mean you have to look and act like a bum, and not clean up after yourself. If these people are happy surrounded by garbage, so be it, but my vision, and i'm sure most everyone else heres' vision of "off the grid" is definitely a bit different..

  • Texas Chainsaw Massacre

  • I wouldn't feel all that free if I had to look at your jacked up crap all the time. Not much freedom for other people when they have the view of your yard

  • @ubiquitousparadox It's not a yard - it's land. I'm pretty sure they abandoned the idea of property rights, at least amongst themselves.

  • As long as they don't bother me , They can do whatever they please for as long as they want! P>S. I don't want any of my tax dollars spent on harassing these people!

  • Funny I can't tell the difference between them and the local panhandlers in Austin, tx. Only difference is location and the number of them.

  • @layddually Might be them. I first thought it was a long GEICO commercial.

  • This isn't off the grid living, this is a bunch of rednecks, I have neighbors just like this, the problem is that this kind of living interferes with other peoples rights to a peaceful and safe life in the country, off grid living is a self supporting way of life not trashing the earth and other people.

  • Keep in mind, watching youtube videos is about as "on the grid" as you can get.

Slow down, buy a small bit of farm land, grow vegetables, get a dog, a goat, some chickens, a good cross-bow (for deer, wild boar, ground hogs, future zombies and cannibals), collect/filter rain water, build a compost heap and chicken coop EAST of your cabin (or yurt, or RV), learn how to gut a wood chuck, get a deck of cards, get a case of toilet paper, bottled water, liquor and Off!

Sit back and wait for the end

  • Living off the grid doesn't mean you have to live like a bunch of lazy maniacs. Clean your pig pens up and have just a little pride in yourself. I live off the grid but my place doesn't look like the local dump. Whats wrong with making a little oasis for yourself instead of living in a garbage incrusted shack and just hiding away to smoke pot and get out of work. You want to have a better life than make one.

  • @QUAIL72 So do you just have an internet connection and that's it from the 'outside,' or???

  • I saw this on Netflx. Bunch of folks shooting guns, dealing w/ runaway kids who come into their camp and dissing the system...but when one gets sick guess where he goes? Yep, to the city hospital!

  • I want to cry every time I watch Maine's part and story. God bless that man, he has won a place in my heart

  • I think America is a great country and I am English you should all chill out and stop being so paranoid about each other.

  • @DavidPaulNewtonScott gotta remember, part of being american is "mistrust of government".....it's woven into our constitution

  • HA HA screw the institutions that's the IFing problem in AMERICA.to many GOVERMENT INSTITUTINS

  • YEAH the way god meant for man to live.LAW OF THE LAND.not some stupid lawyers law..

  • do these guys have jobs?,.if they did they should have a grip saved living like that!!

  • chinga tu madre ....lmao i love it

  • the hills have eyes the prequel

  • we dont dial 911 we dial 357, 357 MAGNUM lol!!!!!!

  • The last 30 seconds gave me chills.... Badass..

  • Lack of water is the biggest challenge to growing anything on The Mesa. All water is trucked in from 15-20 miles away. Spring is often the driest season in northern New Mexico. Most of the rain comes in July and August, too late for spring planting. Other than for a few scrub juniper trees on the far edge of The Mesa, there are no trees for miles. Wood is trucked in, too.

  • it looks like meth heaven ?

  • yea if i did this i would start crops right away corn every vegetable that would grow id grow. Poppies as a medicine souce and trade source. Even weed. Dont matter out there. I am a tree trimmer so cutting would is in my blood.

  • wtf> where is the rest of the video?

  • Most folks I met on The Mesa were friendly and helpful. Some were sweethearts. But everyone warned me to avoid specific people and places. Military veterans with weapons don't spook me. Heavily armed runaways, nowhere kids, and the mentally ill scare the crap out of me. My guess is the population of 400-450 has peaked and The Mesa will get smaller as gas prices rise. A community without water and food can't survive. The Mesa is not sustainable eco-friendly off-the-grid living.

  • hey Dreadie Jeff the oath is I will defend the Constitution FOR, NOT OF the united states of America. Its a common law trust contract, and every word in law has a meaning so to replace FOR with OF has impact ! Get with the program Jeff...

  • The Mesa is NOT sustainable off the grid living. Instead, it is outcasts, outlaws, and runaways living "Out of the Way". It is a rural skid row--not an alternative eco lifestyle. Most depend on handouts and govt. checks for survival. Claims of freedom are mostly fantasy. They have very little agriculture. There are a few nice places on The Mesa and not everyone is living in trash. But others are living in holes in the ground and don't even have outhouses.

  • They brag about self-sufficiency, but they don't even have water. It's hauled in on the backs of trucks from a spring at the bottom of the Rio Grande Gorge many miles away. Aside from pot, there are very few gardens, and only a handful of people have chickens or goats. If the country fell apart tomorrow, The Mesa would be a desperate place. Their main source of self-reliance is their guns. Would you want them as neighbors? Don't confuse The Mesa with off-the-grid country living. It's not.

  • @CSFLY77 I have lots of guns and neighbors with lots of guns. Looks to me as if they live the way they want to.

I'd be happy to have them as neighbors, more reliable than any helpless city folks would be.

  • @justaman6972 I'm not anti-gun at all. But I wouldn't want this unstable community as neighbors. I've been on The Mesa, I didn't just watch the movie. I'd rather have well-armed, good country folks as neighbors than this crowd. I don't trust them at all

    .

  • For all of you saying this isn't Off the Grid living, yes it is. You are guilty of conforming, simply because these folks are a little more rough around the edges. This is freedom, it is why we go off grid, to be our own man, our own woman. These people are probably a lot less dangerous than you think. These people aren't buying NIKE shoes they don't need, while starving Chinese folks slave away somewhere else. Perfect? No. But don't judge, this is what freedom looks like..

  • this should have been called anarchist society in america, not off the grid

  • Me and my 20 acres out in the Fl. back wood I'm as close as I can get to this.

I'm living off the land hunting farming and fishing all organtic gotta love it

  • I can really jive with the whole off grid living thing, but WHAT A BUNCH OF YAHOOS! I don't want these guys as my neighbors.

  • @liverqiconstraint they wouldn't want you either, you'd just be a whining helpless burden.

  • @justaman6972 that coming from someone who knows me so well.

  • I own a 1/4 acre right in the middle of this place.

  • this film is not a portrayal of off-grid living, it is a sociological examination of a group of people who live on the fringe. most of the people in this film are just renegades, loose cannons, etc. and some are not. i would like to see an Off Grid Part 2 that presents the other side of the mesa.

  • I will defend the constitution and i will fight for what is mine and for what i love. But if im going to live off the grid im going to need more pot.

  • how you grow pot with out water, must be mom n pop show

  • I would send all the Madoff'clique , elie Wiesel and zionist blood suckers to leave with them ..permaculture, straw houses ans so on ..

  • I wanna stay as far as possible from these people. I would shoot somebody.... Need freedom from these people worse than than I need it from the government. And i need it from the government!!! and the grid!!

  • @TheBuilderguy1 why? these people are great!

  • @Danman429 A bunch of drunk potheads with guns? I like drunk people. I like guns. I dont even mind potheads. I just dont want to be around them together..... And wont be. You like 'em? Have at it

  • @TheBuilderguy1 lol, nope ive got my own off grid living plans. rest assured, there will be plenty of pot. i was just curious what it was that you didnt like about em.

  • This is messed up, it definately is not my idea of living off the grid. These are bottom feeders it looks like a junk yard. What a god damn mess clean that shit up and develop some self respect.

  • @pwchesser if their way of life isn't good enough for you, you don't have to live it. but I think that it's certainly better than living in this fucked up society. me, im gonna start my own off the grid community deep in the forests of southwestern missouri.

  • 4:02 WTF Off roading with dog in truck bed!

  • these are the guys who are gonna eat people when theres no more food left

  • @Wearefree22 Bon apetit!

  • @Wearefree22 and when the baked beans run out

  • ...talk about white trailer trash... they seem really poorly organized, unsanitary and uncomfortable, there are a gazillion of far nicer and mor sustainable off-grid communities, don't waste time on this film.

  • @CalyptratusTZM hey can you tell me some other ones you know of please want to check then out

  • I'm getting sick of it all. I'm slowly and consistantly building a hatred towards our government and materialistic society. I have been researching off the grid living for a few months now. Looking into basic farming, solar, wind power and water resources. Although this vid post is only six mins long, this is not my idea of off the grid living.

  • @CensorshipAuthority Thanks for giving me another reason to disconnect my internet service and pursue off the grid living.

  • @sherman546 Please don't be "sick of it all" & "building hatred" but rather be EXCITED for the new opportunities of living in the real world as nature intended, EMBRACING towards new solutions, & be PROUD of yourself for being aware of what's happening 2 planet earth. Trust me, U will be so PROUD of yourself for making those changes while all the stupid people drive them self mad (& perhaps out of existence) in the face of the collapse.strongly recommend reading "Sacred Demise" by Carolyn Baker

  • @sherman546 you can take solace in knowing that you are not alone in the way you feel. I think there is going to be a mass movement of people deciding to live FREE again. REALLY free. Not the homogenized "free" that we've got right now. It's going to be too expensive to live for at least 60% of the population in the next few years.

  • Comment removed

  • @sherman546 good luck to ya Sherman!

  • @sherman546 check out survivalblog. com

  • @sherman546 Just remember when you go into the wild, at the edge of things, you find people who were outside society long before you.

  • @sherman546 dam straight , fuck the world , we dont need em for shit ( maybe target practice)

  • uh, u could keep it like clean, whatever.

Im all about being off the grid but these guys are CREEPY, (hikish, Texas Chainsaw massacre types. I used to know one of the guys in here, I used to Live in Taos.

These people are wierd. U can be poor live independent and be a Christian. These guys are Wrong Turn types

  • Dont need money..........wait till they cant buy gas then we will see how they go......

  • We have no freedom, we have no independence. The rich and powerful and blinded Americans don't understand but when you've experienced injustice and abuse from the government or authorities you would feel the same way as these men. If the blinded opened their eyes and we all took action against the system and the ones in power, we would have back our freedom. I guess it has to get worse before it gets better. Americans will only wait for their cozy lives to be disrupted before they take a stand.

  • This reminds me of the old wild west cowboy days. Sure, these guys are dirty and grungy, trashy and gun-toting. That's how they want to live, so be it. Who are you to judge? Just because they found a place to express their freedom does not mean you have to live like they do. You can still respect your things, your car, and your land. Not to sound cliche, but live and let live. Beware anyone who tries to control you, or make you stray from your path. Your heart knows the truth so LISTEN to it!

  • clicked on the link and it says that it is not available in America... funny, what happened to freedom of speech... oh... right... homeland security.... nice.

  • the whole doc isnt on youtube google search

  • they should have let him finish what he was saying he was about to make a great point

  • just a bunch a savages....

  • I am going to buy a new Buick. I've seen that commercial 1000 times.

  • This is freaking fantastic. Absolutely great. For me, I would try to live more ... ahem ... "quality", but these guys are free to live how they like and I'm sure would let you live how you like. This is GREAT.

  • "chiga tu madre" haha

  • I've watched this a couple of times, most these people seem more like homeless bums. I'm sure a lot of them are very friendly nice people but socialy a mess. I want to live off grid but be sustainable not nasty & pathetic

  • @Warsrogue They do give that first impression. But maybe living out there one becomes a bit 'tough' in demeanour, and maybe one actually NEEDS to be a bit tougher. But a tough exterior does not imply either 'homeless', 'bum', 'nasty' OR 'pathetic'... just listen to the guy who spoke about his oath to defend the American Constutition...he's more of a true American than many rich, comfy city-dwellers, I'd say.

  • @hearts0ngs Have you watched the whole documentary? not just the 6 min intro. search around & you can find it.

  • @Warsrogue I have not, but I'm interested in finding it...doesn't seem to be on youtube in it's entirety.

  • you guys need to pipe down, they can trash their land. they own it. further more, its not YOUR country, its OUR country.

  • @Bewarethe1 I bet it isn't there land for most of them it's just so far out no one cares they live there.

  • @Warsrogue if you watched the doc, it explains that its owned by this guy who owned a pot farm and the feds burned his house down. so yes, if you dont like how his tenants are treating his land, talk to him. But i doubt he cares considering the feds burned his house down and all..

  • @Bewarethe1 you said it

  • gotta love that guys!
