@mellowdalyricist That's not a JET engine. It's a GAS TURBINE engine. This particular turbine engine was an APU (Auxilliary Power Unit) from a big jet. Turbine engines do have accessory gear boxes, and you can run a transmission off of one. How else would helicopters run on turbine engines? In the industry we call them turboshafts. Because the power turbine turns a shaft that protrudes from the compressor section typically, and that drives a transmission. It's not rocket science.

This would be very feasible conceptually, except that I can hear the piston engine revving underneath your recorded turbine sound effect as the car accelerates forward, and the turbine sound effect doesn't seem to get any quieter or shift down in pitch (doppler effect, which would affect a turbine's high-pitched noise more noticeably than a typical piston engine's) as the car moves away toward the stop sign. Color me a skeptic. I wouldn't be surprised if comments are disabled tomorrow.

@rorybz Doppler Effect takes longer to become noticeable with a turbine engine due to the amount of noise the engines put out. Go out to an airport one afternoon without hearing protection, and report back with how much Doppler Effect you can pick up when a big jet taxis by 50ft away from you.

Not a fake, it is a small gas turbine, as I was building the car everyone said the engine would be too small, but it ran fine,

in fact the car has 11,300 street driven miles on it.

I've thought of doing this to my Nissan Patrol and forcing air from the turbine system into my turbocharger for boost. I can lay my hands on any gas turbine engine so that isn't a problem. Calm down, tough guy. Apparently you're too dumb to pick up on the intended humor. I'm well aware of the basic design of turboshaft - turboprop - turbojet engines. 

While we're on the subject, turbines have lots of lag, though now it's called spool up time. The old P&W JT8D engines from the Boeing 727 had up to 8 seconds before any useful power increase. The ancient B-47 jet bomber had to trail a parachute during the landing to keep turbine speed up. Check Wikipedia.

To all of you negative posters the car is equipted with a gas turbine engine which has PTO output to drive what ever accessory it was designed to run,I also have a street legal jet car with the same setup and with some knowledge and mechanical skills you can build one but unless you understand the principals of a turbine engine, you should not even think about doing this...check out my car...look up "the paseojet" and judge for yourself,by the way Ralph's car is real!

Not necessarily. The engine can run at a constant(high)speed and the power can be delivered through reduction gears, like a constant speed propeller on an aircraft.
