The song is forever anchored to the memory of Rhoda Veals who I knew when I was living in Compton California in my teen years. Summer Madness was playing from her home when I was visiting her one summer after noon. I never told her how much I cared for her because I was afraid. She tried to show me how she felt about me on a few occasion but I would freeze when she would show me affection. I sure she thought I did not like her. Family changes caused me to move away and I never saw her again.
