  • I love the fact that he doesn't used a pick :) it's all fingers

  • Saw them perform this live at The Warehouse in Toronto in 1996, its on their 1st album and cassette demo, but to experience this song live, something I will never forget

  • Too bad about the sound. What was the deal with this guy? So much talent. Was there an attitude issue? Seemed to have had everything going for him. Where are they now?

  • @72911RS look up Thornley. He's still making tremendous music and on the verge of reuniting with his old band mates. Mass popularity doesn't seem to be in the cards, but the amazing music continues.

  • @betbuk thanks for the uploads buk - your channel has become my favourite. Ian hasn't lost any skill with singing or guitar. Good to see some recent youtube videos with Brian on board. When I saw Slash recently, I looked on the net to see Dave was the touring bass player for a short while there, a shame he was replaced. I can only hope he and Forrest make music again with Ian and Brian . Anyway, I think you once sent me this concert on disc, along with other music. Thanks for then, and now. :)

  • @72911RS Good question. The short answer? Being the best hard rock band to come out after say '95 is dubious timing. No one was listening anymore, and the bands had already been established. At that point if you aren't a critical darling you had better have good management and be think about your business end - Thornley didn't. Why in the world they didn't tour Australia (a rock loving country) or Europe is a damn shame.

  • @72911RS I agree with you, I am beyond sad that this guy didn't make it. It makes extremely pessimistic about the future of music. In what kind of tone-deaf monster's hands is the music nowadays? :'(

  • I love Big Wreck!!

  • Anyone know a studio version online?

  • @Alientank I want all the studio versions on youtube from In Loving Memory Of.. but nobody has them :(

  • @Alientank grooveshark has Overemphasizing

  • the were the best part about rockfest 98

  • Just discovered this and I am stunned. Sends chills down my spine. This is what live music used to be like. Absolutely breathtaking...

  • This one still stings.

  • one of the most over looked band of the 90's.....they never got their credit for what an awesome band

  • Wish more people had heard this album. Might've saved the world from the crap on the radio now.

  • I love this band, there songs really get me.

  • I cant take it anymore!!!! HOW CAN ONE MAN BE SO GOOD AT MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hardly anyone uses effects as "effective" as Big Wreck/Thornley...except maybe Virgos Merlot...YOU either "GET IT" or you don't....685 sound effects could be compared to Led Zepplin and how they layered effects to get that scary movie in a song sound.....this is drama....this is real...and nobody does it better than the modern incarnation....THORNLEY is a genius....open tuned and ALL...

  • @longwhip I agree, but stop with the ellipses

  • This is so fucking good! I've seen Ian live 4 times and he is one of those artists that sounds better live!

  • Whats up with the 685 sound effects?

  • @funlivelife

    What are 685 sound effects?

  • @betbuk I think he's speaking in hyperbole... I don't think he is a fan of either delays, phase shifters, flangers, or even overdrive... God forbid a guitarist to use the tools he has at his disposal!!

He must HATE the Edge lol

  • Ian just made me want to quit guitar. Or just drop all my friends and family and practice for the rest of my life. WHAT A SOLO! Maybe if we had all bought two copies of "The Pleasure and The Greed" they'd still be around.

  • I found both their albums at the store recently, being blown away by "In Loving Memory of...", I decided to buy both assuming "The Pleasure and The Greed" would be amazing as well... man was I right! Haha. Not a bad song by Big Wreck. Can't say that for many bands!

  • @Kegrath Ian Thornley has his own band now called ................you guessed it " Ian Thornley" if you didnt know. And yes I miss this band I went to High school with Dave the bassist and Brian the guitarist.

  • @Kegrath I felt the same way. I was blown away when I first heard his guitar playing and songwriting over a decade ago. I just had to put the guitar aside for a few months because I was in awe of him. Seeing him live (Big Wreck) was even more impressive. He's a very cool guy too.

  • I was there when they played with the TSO. IT was sick. Chills down my spine. It was powerful man. Was like a 3 hour show and worth every penny. More actually.

  • THE performance of the night. Actually, "Prayer" was pretty close!

  • Absoultely love this band.

  • the one song i always wanted to hear live but he never played at any concert i went to

  • Thornley is a beast.

This tune always reminded me of something that Jeff Buckley would have done...

  • he will become one of the guitar heroes of our time. The business will learn.

  • Ooooh I love this song! Gosh I miss Big Wreck.

  • AMAZING guitar tones. What a badass song

  • all for himself onstage. this is not for him . its for us. Cheers.. and you've proved it

  • a total rockstar. it's too bad egos got in the way of a great band.

  • It's too bad an American market saturated with fluffy cut - and - paste "rock acts" got in the way of a great band.

  • Hey great tune! I actually searched everywhere for this album and found it in an old record store in ottawa. I coundnt beilive it, it made my day!

  • Oh man! Me too! Just got it yesterday on rideau street.

  • Beautiful Ian, thanks for posting video!

  • Such a beautiful song. Seriously. God, I love this song so much! Long live Ian Thornley! :D

  • This is one of the best things I've heard. Such an amazing slide player/overall musician. Love you Ian

  • This video was pro shot and posted on Big Wrecks website soon after the show. You were able to watch the whole show! I have been searching for a DVD of this show since! The original song is on BW's 1st CD released in 97, and you can find it on ebay. This was my most memorable concert by far with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Cirque Eloize, Uzume Taiko Drummers and Eric Johnson! Simply AWESOME!

  • i love you whoever took this video!!

  • "Thank you Ian."

    "You're quite welcome."

i love that part at the beginning

  • that is so cool

    your a very cool fellow

  • Sweet Intro! Sweet Duane-style Solo! Always loved this song, anyone else hear a little bit of 70's Aerosmith in the chorus?

  • Does anyone have the CD version of this song?

If yes, PLEASE put it on Youtube ! the song is nowhere to find :(

  • Fall Through the Cracks, Blown Wide Open and ImmigrantSong2 are all from this show.

  • Whoa.. nice.. thanks for posting this! Got anymore? Big Wreck proshot stuff is like a myth.

  • does anyone know where I could find an accurate tab for this song?

  • Thank God I live in Canada! These guys still get a play once in a while!

I've loved Big Wreck since day one, and though I never saw them play as a band live, Ian Thornley really throws out an amazing show.

  • he really is good , this is one of those that you can thank the current recording industry & its ways for not having access to now . Such a shame and just think of the thousands of bands you alson never heard but no shortage of Brittany and all their sisters . This is real talent , should have been pushed ! shame on them

  • This band was not pushed enough by marketing. I remember I was the only one who knew about them in my area, and I played this cd till it fell apart. Everytime someone heard it they loved it.

  • Fantastic; I always thought that the slide solos in Big Wreck Songs were done by the other guitarist, Brian. Thornley is the shit, just left me blown. Guitar hero.

  • Holy s*** people, this is just an example of one of the best modern rock bands that ever played...and got LITTLE TO NO play. I love all of these guys' songs. Excellent, excellent rock - very emotional and driven and just exactly what a 20-something post-grunge bastard like me needs!!!

  • Yeah man, I've been preaching about how good Big Wreck is since they put out - In Loving Memory Of - in 1997!!!

They didn't get enough exposure back in the day... I saw them live in the 90's. They were awesome, and, they were hella tight! Great Show!

  • r.i.p big wreck

  • I am impressed. Thank you. Grandpa Clarence Jones on YouTube. Impressive. CJ

  • I've never heard of these folks but.. wow, not a bad song.

  • best band and best song!

  • Metallica should be taking notes. THIS is how it's done. :)

  • what a stupid comment. metallica?

  • Yeah Big wreck was 10000000000 times the band Metallica is.

  • Comment removed

  • WOW! Love this song. My fav BW song... thanks for posting it!

  • My favourite song of all time. Ian playing it @ The Mod club was one of the greatest and incredible things that I hold very close to my heart. (It was a B-Day gift :))

  • I've always loved this song. Thanks for uploading. Did they ever release Big Wreck and Friends for sale?

  • Great stuff!!! I got to see Ian do this one solo at the Mod Club in November that was a really great show..

  • Dean Blundell had me booted out of that show because I was busting his balls. Dean Blundell is a gigantic douche.

  • Ian's greatest song! Thanx
