@HARKON1995 my brother when in there he said the first time was the scariest cause it was mdinight and he had a low batterie on his camera light and he was with one person
This palce is fuckin huge. You can see like half of one huge building from the home depot next to it. And thats still ony like 1/8th of the damn place.
I was on FFD from 93-97. We would would tour the campus and the inside of some of the buildings. Creeeeeepy stuff. In the very lowest level there are tunnels that connect many of the buildings. We would come across old rolling beds and the like. All that old 50's mental hospital motif and all. While these buildings are great on the outside I don't think and matter of rehab will get rid of the vibe....
Poughkeepsie, NY. Right off of Rt 9 heading towards Hyde Park. You can't miss it, but this actual building is all the way at the top of the hill, so it's hard to see from the road.
As far as I know, Syco is wrong, and it was not arson at all, but lightning
One of the kids name is Ian, there were three involved they sometimes hang out in the cubbyhole cofeehouse on college av. right next to vassar college.
I think the official cause was lightning. The building was old and not being taken care of. Only one section of it burnt down, but the rest is in poor shape anyway. The entire grounds is rotting away, it's sad.
Well around my area. Byberry (which is demolished now), Pennhurst and Haverford were all fine untill people made myspace pages about them and attracted vandals. Every hospital gets lit albaze or trashed for what? I dont get it, people that wanna vandalize an old historic building need to be "brave" and maybe go to battle in Iraq instead. Not light an abandoned building on fire. Doing that shit could get people in trouble for something they didnt do.
I agree. Fortunately for this site, it's gated and patrolled... not that that would stop someone if they really wanted to, but it prevents a good about of the vandals.
I'm a photographer and I really wish they had kirkbride buildings out here in fucking Washington but nooo, and by the time i can travel all the kirkbride architecture will be demolished.
The saddest thing is they were going to demolish it anyways for apartment buildings :// god this world is stupid.
yeah, a lot of plans for that property and nothing ever happens. The buildings are cool, but it wouldn't be cost effective to do anything with them since they are so rundown. The cost of new is just so much cheaper.
Back in the 1980s and 1990s when I was employed at the nearby Water Plant, everyday after work, and on my roundabout way back to my apartment in the C of Poughkeepsie, I used to ride my bike through these premises. Very familiar with that place. It's a shame about the fire in the beautiful historical buildings.
