  • sooo creepy this place. i run past it on runs for my crew team. creeps me out. i haul ass past this place.

  • my compy did go to this fire

  • My compy was also dispatched to this fire

  • i tagged that bitch up

  • any idea why they were closed?

  • hey why did they close these buildings?

  • I was on FFD from 93-97. We would would tour the campus and the inside of some of the buildings. Creeeeeepy stuff. In the very lowest level there are tunnels that connect many of the buildings. We would come across old rolling beds and the like. All that old 50's mental hospital motif and all. While these buildings are great on the outside I don't think and matter of rehab will get rid of the vibe....

  • is that the only building effected by the fires? im going next month to check it out. get back to me.

  • man i rememebr that

  • Wow, what a beautiful old building. Does anybody know how badly damaged it was?

  • I heard about this fire but i didn't realize that it was that enormous!

  • were is this?????

  • Poughkeepsie, NY. Right off of Rt 9 heading towards Hyde Park. You can't miss it, but this actual building is all the way at the top of the hill, so it's hard to see from the road.

As far as I know, Syco is wrong, and it was not arson at all, but lightning

  • thanks!!!! are there still crazy people in it or abandoned????

  • @retom7

    Yup - Lightning.

  • @retom7 this near the huson river in Pougkeepie new york I m a firefighter in Rhinbeck where my compy truck went to the fire

  • wow.

  • One of the kids name is Ian, there were three involved they sometimes hang out in the cubbyhole cofeehouse on college av. right next to vassar college.

  • Id like to meet the asshole that lit that fire. Fucking destroying such beautiful buildings to be "cool"? Let me find that punk

  • I think the official cause was lightning. The building was old and not being taken care of. Only one section of it burnt down, but the rest is in poor shape anyway. The entire grounds is rotting away, it's sad.

  • Well around my area. Byberry (which is demolished now), Pennhurst and Haverford were all fine untill people made myspace pages about them and attracted vandals. Every hospital gets lit albaze or trashed for what? I dont get it, people that wanna vandalize an old historic building need to be "brave" and maybe go to battle in Iraq instead. Not light an abandoned building on fire. Doing that shit could get people in trouble for something they didnt do.

  • I agree. Fortunately for this site, it's gated and patrolled... not that that would stop someone if they really wanted to, but it prevents a good about of the vandals.

  • I know guys right?

I'm a photographer and I really wish they had kirkbride buildings out here in fucking Washington but nooo, and by the time i can travel all the kirkbride architecture will be demolished.

The saddest thing is they were going to demolish it anyways for apartment buildings :// god this world is stupid.

  • yeah, a lot of plans for that property and nothing ever happens. The buildings are cool, but it wouldn't be cost effective to do anything with them since they are so rundown. The cost of new is just so much cheaper.

  • my pops works for the company funny thing is they moved to a different location in poughkeepsie

  • damn... why the fuck do i hear about this shit almost a yr later? damn i lived 20 min from there. wtf? i obviously wasnt paying attention.

  • Back in the 1980s and 1990s when I was employed at the nearby Water Plant, everyday after work, and on my roundabout way back to my apartment in the C of Poughkeepsie, I used to ride my bike through these premises. Very familiar with that place. It's a shame about the fire in the beautiful historical buildings.

  • i was working at rehab programs when this happen we could see the smoke!

  • Was it lightening that caused the fire, or did someone torch it?

  • heartbreak for a beautiful building, thanks for the memories

  • Interesting....you should visit the site entitled "Deserted New Jersey" Seeing How YouTube Blocks url insertion. I would suggest searching Google with the search terms " Deserted NJ "

  • fuck. i was just going to go back there too

  • Sad to see that beautiful building burn!!
